CHAPTER 5.5
After defeating the King of Giants and destroying another human city without difficulty, the Nameless King yearned to have that fight again. He would never forget such a special battle. Meanwhile, a human crawled on the ground without his legs, blood flowing as he crawled. He tried to attack the Nameless King but was crushed and trampled in the process.
The Nameless King just stared at the horizon, admiring the world's beauty with an empty, lifeless gaze, as if he had never felt or witnessed a single love, as if he was only born to fight.
"I've had that look before, b-but, I... I met her, the love of my life, and that's when I finally found my true purpose."
Cobel's words touched the Nameless King's heart. His lifeless gaze turned to a place full of life, and a bird landed on his hand. Without realizing it, he let out a pure smile for the first time, a smile that was not somber or happy to have killed an enemy.
He was the first to have the title of Nameless King. His past was just a fight for survival, and he had never experienced love. But now, for the first time, he was experiencing happiness.
'What is this? What am I feeling? It's so relaxing... I think I'll stay here just a little longer. I think I like this peace!'.
So he sat on the ground, which was beautiful in front of him, while behind him there was blood and all the terror he had caused. After admiring the beauty of nature, he went on his way, aimlessly, for days on end.
'Even though I have left that hell, I still feel like I'm there, trapped in that place. But what should I do? After all, I am like this and I was created like this. This is my nature'. The Nameless King thought as he walked.
He stopped, made a bonfire, and, lying down with his sword, he slept. When the day dawned, he continued his journey until he found a very peculiar part of the forest. The climate changed. This part of the forest was gray, with dead trees and decomposing bodies everywhere. The only animals there were vultures and crows.
The Nameless King entered this forest. The place was unique; he had never seen such a fascinating place.
'What a fascinating place. Even though it stinks and isn't beautiful in appearance, it doesn't seem dangerous'. The Nameless King thought as he walked, looking around and being very careful not to be caught by surprise.
He continued until he found a being sitting on a kind of throne made of dead giant corpses. The being looked at the Nameless King and opened his mouth to speak:
"Are you the famous Nameless King? The one who eliminated the King of Giants?"
The Nameless King nodded.
"I see. You have potential. Even though you are just a newborn among giants, you easily enter the top twenty most powerful giants." The giant on the corpse throne spoke with a somber look.
"Who are you?"
"Me? I am the King of Death, the one who brings death to giants. The one who is the strongest on our continent."
The Nameless King, in position, raised his sword to attack him. The King of Death saw that and smiled, just raising his hand.
"Poor souls trapped in this terrible world, rise up!"
Suddenly, all the dead rose and stood still, awaiting orders.
"Attack!"
The Nameless King dodged the first attack and then another attack from another living dead. After dodging, he countered, cutting the same, and then he decapitated the others. Seeing an opening, he made a move on the King of Death, who, without expressing any emotion, grabbed the Nameless King by the neck with one hand and squeezed until he blocked his breathing. The Nameless King, holding his sword, drove it into the King of Death's chest. When he felt the sword penetrating his chest, he let go of the Nameless King. He started to laugh as his wound regenerated, his dry flesh and pale skin joining together.
"I am a walking corpse, boy." With a malicious smile, he continued. "And I'm also a corpse that collects the bodies of giants."
"I will never become one of your soldiers." With a smile full of confidence and arrogance, the Nameless King replied. "I'm going to kill you and make you beg for your life."
The King of Death laughed at the young giant's face. While they talked, the Nameless King battled against the corpses, and the King of Death remained on his throne.
After cutting and incapacitating the zombie giants, the Nameless King looked wounded and almost out of energy at the king of those poor corpses. He was smiling, an empty smile. The Nameless King then pointed his sword at the King of Death, who stood up and walked towards him.
The Nameless King did the same, walking towards him with an expression of fatigue, not just physical, but mental.
"Do you want to be the hero of these poor souls?" The King of Death asked, curious.
"No. I don't want to be a hero or a savior, but rather the one you will fear."
That answer surprised and intrigued the King of Death, who started to laugh.
'Huh, why is he laughing? Did I say something funny?'.
"You are strange, boy. But really, analyzing you, it only confirms that the Nameless King is not a hero and doesn't even look like one." He said, smiling.
The Nameless King observed him and realized how ugly and frightening he was, with a skinny body and pale as a corpse, covered by a torn tyrant's cloak.
"You're quite ugly, you know." The Nameless King said with sincerity.
"You can't say anything."
The two stared at each other for a short time. Then the Nameless King sat on the ground, leaning against a tree.
"Well, you can sleep. I'm not going to kill you; you have my word."
The Nameless King had no choice; he would have to sleep to regain his strength. So he closed his eyes and slept.
'Well, since he's asleep, I'm going to see the damage he's done'. The King of Death walked and walked, looking at how many he had killed and recovering his soldiers and regenerating others.
'Nameless King... It's no wonder he has a title of his own. His potential is almost infinite! I'm going to train him to be the next king of the giants. First, I'm going to send him to the proudest continent of them all'. He thought, as he went about his business.
After a while, the Nameless King woke up. He looked around and realized he was alone. He got up and looked around again and saw the King of Death with his arms wide open, who came and said:
"It's boring being one of the top twenty strongest, isn't it? There's almost no one for a fun fight. Everything gets boring. I know how you feel, but there are people much stronger than you in the world. Go ahead, my friend, and you will find a new continent, and the people there are strong."
The Nameless King's eyes shone after so long.
"Are you serious?" The Nameless King asked, hopefully.
"Yes. But tell me, why do you love to fight?"
"To find the peace I so long for."
"Find peace? Did you mean death?"
"Yes."
The giant started to laugh again.
"You like to laugh." The Nameless King stated.
"It's because you are just like him and also a little different. Here's some advice from an older man." He took a deep breath and began to give the advice. "Look, no matter how much time passes, we will always find a new purpose in our lives. Got it?"
The Nameless King just nodded his head.
"Since I'm in a good mood today, I'm going to give you some information about one of these continents." He said with a smile.
This interested the Nameless King. It was something new. After he left the wall, he found small and fragile beings, some strong, but the great majority were weak.
After giving the Nameless King the information, the King of Death guided him in the direction of the continent. The Nameless King didn't even waste time and jumped.
"Huh! The kid's not even in a hurry."
'Well, when I said that if he destroyed the villages and cities of the inhabitants of that continent, I would fight without holding back, he immediately got even more excited. What I want most is for him to kill the saint of the church of the Goddess of Life'. The giant who commands the dead thought.
While jumping, the Nameless King was impressed by the amount of water he was seeing. This was his first time seeing an ocean. When he lifted his head, he saw several islands.
When he landed on one of the islands, the impact made a loud noise, loud enough for the nearest village to hear. The residents went to the place and saw only dust, until they saw something big as if it were a giant.
"That... that's a GIANT!"
The scared residents started to run.
The Nameless King got up and started to walk, watching the residents panic. He thought:
'Wait, they are the size of those fragile and weak beings. The only difference is that they have pointy ears'. The Nameless King thought with great disappointment.
'Destroy the villages, cities, and their lives. Make them fear you. After all, you are a giant'.
Remembering that, he soon began to destroy the elves' village and take their lives.
'I am in charge of destroying villages, cities, and lives. No, I destroy everything. We can say that if I become the strongest, I can even destroy the world. After all, this is my destiny'. As he drove his sword into an elf, he continued to think. 'I was chosen to be destruction'.
The Nameless King was chosen to be the representation of the god of destruction since his birth. Among the giants of the wall—who attacked even the kings and princes of the wall—they did not attack him, even though he was a prince. He was feared before he even became the king of the wall and was treated as such.
The soldiers arrived and shot lances full of magic. The Nameless King dodged with difficulty and then swung his sword to hit the elven soldiers, who used a shield magic. The shield cracked when it was hit. Seeing the crack, the soldier turned pale and broke out in a cold sweat.
'Is this the strength of a giant?! This is an absurd force!'. The soldier thought.
While the giant destroyed the village, a soldier was sent to warn the Baron that a giant had invaded his territory.
"S-sir, there's a giant in our territory."
"WHAT?!" The Baron was scared. "It's been four centuries since a single giant set foot on these lands. This is because of the great war between species, and after the human-giant war, they were imprisoned in the wall, and some were trapped in forests and caves. They were supposed to be imprisoned!"
"Yes, sir, you are right. They were supposed to be imprisoned in those places, but we have received recent news that the wall fell along with the city, and that more than half of the giants in the forest have been killed."
The Baron immediately got up from his room and went towards the soldiers.
"What are you planning to do?"
"I'm going to join the battle and kill that bastard." The Baron said with a serious expression.
So the Baron went to the training field, where he sent the soldiers to battle. When they heard the discourse about the giant, the motivated expressions of the soldiers turned into fear, and some, into excitement.
"It doesn't matter if you are afraid because we all are. You can die in this battle; even I can die in this battle. But are we going to run away?"
"No!" The soldiers shouted.
"Very well, let's protect our county. Let's go, soldiers, to the battle that awaits us!" He spoke, with his yellow eyes and blue hair. With his red cloak, he grabbed his scabbard and drew his sword, which shone. "Let's go to battle! We will not fear death. On the contrary, we must seek it until the end of our lives. This is our destiny. We must not fear it; we must only fear our goddess of life, the goddess Gaia."
The soldiers got excited, raised their hands and all shouted together: "Long live the goddess of life! Long live Gaia!"
So, the Baron left, turning his back on the soldiers.
"Prepare the horse. I will go with you, so prepare it now."
The soldier by his side nodded.
'Come on, let's fight after a long time'.
While the Nameless King massacred all the villages in the region, he heard the people begging for mercy for their lives. All around him there was fire, bodies burning, and screams, but he just went on his way.
The Baron, on his way to save his land, spotted the giant and his burning villages.
"Come on, shoot! Kill that bastard!"
Obeying their leader, the soldiers shot with light and wind magic. The giant dodged the light projectile, but the wind one grazed him. He immediately launched his sword. The Baron accelerated his horse, and the soldiers did the same. But soon after, the sword hit the ground and made a roar. The earth rose along with the blood. The giant appeared, pulling the sword from the ground and swinging it, making a cut that finished off the entire elven squadron.
The Baron stopped and turned with his horse, extending his hand to cast the magic. "O, goddess, you allow this insignificant being to use your pure and graceful power."
Around the Baron, several circles appeared, shining more than anything. The giant ran towards him. When he got close, chains wrapped around the Nameless King, making him kneel.
"You stopped a primate trying to attack me with a sword made of bone." The Baron continued to cast the magic. A circle appeared under the Baron and the giant.
The circle began to shine even more. The Nameless King tried to get up, and the chains tried to pull him back to the ground. The magic chains cracked until the Baron launched the spell that hit the Nameless King in full, who felt an enormous pain. His torn black hood that covered his mouth began to burn.
'Come on, Hikari Kotei. Regina and your little daughter are waiting for you'. The Baron thought, placing his hand on his chest, where his mana core was located.
The Nameless King was impressed. He had never suffered so much body damage. He began to get up with difficulty.
Kotei looked at the crater that was smoking. He still felt the giant's presence, and he gnashed his teeth in rage. His spell was not strong enough to defeat the giant on the first try.
'What a mess. I spent half of my mana on this spell. Damn it, just because I'm an elf with a dark-light mana core, DAMNATION'. Kotei thought, cursing himself.
The Nameless King came out of the crater. His body was all burned, and he was shirtless and had nothing to cover his mouth, which had a scar. There was also a scar near his eye, and several others on his body.
With a smile appearing on his face, the Nameless King just stared at the elf in front of him, who looked back at him with hatred in his eyes.
'I will at least kill this giant. I will spend all my remaining mana to kill this bastard'. Kotei thought, getting off his horse. A magic sword appeared in his hand.
'Oh, I wanted so much to see my little daughter again, along with you, Regina. I wanted so much to see Anna grow up'. A tear fell from his eyes. The hopes of seeing his family were almost exhausted, as Kotei could die by the giant or by the unbearable pain he could feel if he exhausted his mana.
Kotei took his hand back, his magic sword forward, and aimed at the Nameless King, who was just staring at him. The giant began to run in Kotei's direction, who launched the sword in the Nameless King's direction. He dodged the attack and continued to run. Kotei did the same, running in the giant's direction. Several magic swords appeared around him, aimed at the Nameless King. Kotei jumped, making a cut. The Nameless King began to stop, making a cut aimed at the elf's head.
'Will this small being be the one to bring me the peace I so desire?' This thought was circulating in the Nameless King's mind. Will he have the peace he so desires?
The blows with the swords collided, making a roar that the whole county heard. This scared the residents and the Count, who was doing business with Regina, Kotei's wife. They wondered what that noise was.
The Nameless King stared intently at the elf, who was kneeling on the ground with blood running down his face. When the Nameless King went to finish him off, he felt something piercing his leg. He lost a bit of his balance and missed the blow he gave to Kotei, who dodged. Away from each other, with an empty look that was starting to glow and his last strengths, the Nameless King prepared for his last lunge.
In that time, Kotei gathered his remaining mana. As he opened his eyes, which shone, the Nameless King advanced. Running even with a hole in his leg, he jumped, pushing his body to the limit. The elf released a burst of light magic, which collided with the sword.
Kotei felt his mana running out, and at the same time a dizziness and nausea that became stronger and stronger, along with pains in his body that were getting more intense. The Nameless King felt his skin burn and the bones of his hands crack. Even so, he continued.
A strong wind began to rise in the region. Kotei's blue hair turned white along with the dizziness and nausea becoming unbearable. The Nameless King cut the magic and kicked the elf, who flew towards the burned villages. Upon reaching the ground, the Nameless King lost his strength and fell.
Kotei had exhausted all his magic. He just wanted to see his family, who would soon return from the trip. He was nauseous and dizzy, with his entire body aching. For Kotei, only one thing awaited him: his death.
The Nameless King, on the other hand, was lying down. He had fun with this battle. Silently, without realizing it, he began to close his eyes, seeing the beautiful sky in front of his green eyes. In the end, he fell asleep, seeing what he liked most: the beauty of nature.
