It's another morning here in Cal woods, a small Peaceful town. I've always thought the town was called Cal woods because it's in California but well that might just be a hunch.
Others will Call today an ordinary day but not me, I've always counted each day a blessing. but today is the day I'll be leaving for college I'm so excited to the extent that I barely even had any sleep last night.
High school was fun with the prom and all that, but this, I believe would be the real deal. this would be my first time outside the city, first time traveling beyond the walls of Cal-woods
Others called me the nerdy kind but that didn't bother me especially since I love reading a lot, I didn't let anything get in between my studies back then in high school, not even love or dating.
I only dated one guy, Mike. I dated him because it was a week to prom and I didn't want to be weird than I was alreadytagged so I accepted his proposal.
Though it didn't last cause I broke up with him less than a week after prom, with the help of my best friend casie who helped me in devising a plan to get rid of Mike
it was successful although I felt guilty especially since Mike being my next door neighbor.
Casie and I both applied for the same College MIT and we got accepted. well she was accepted first I was so happy for her and also scared since I didn't get mine the same time with her , we've been besties since childhood and maybe it lasted this long cause she's my cousin.
I already broke the news of my acceptance letter to casie meaning that we already did the joy scream, one so loud that my mum had to enter my room to warn me, go to sleep she said.
My mum Maggie raised me as a single parent, I grew up not knowing the reason my dad left, some days he was there to pick me up from school and well he just vanished or so I was told.
I didn't bug my mum with questions of my dad's whereabout cause I saw how hard she tried for the both of us how tirelessly she would work doing double shifts just to make ends meet. so I would never want to hurt her in anyway not even with the questions of my dad's whereabout.
On the otherhand I've been a good girl one who no guy visited at home or sneak in from room window, it has been me my mum and my cousin some days i would sleep over at casie's and some days she would sleep over at mine.
Casie's parent Mark Lucas and Mary Lucas were a perfect couple their love life was one to be envied and I always wish that upon my mum even though it was her and me I still feel her loneliness and now that I'm about to leave for college I wonder what would become of her.
Although sometimes I would come up jokingly with the idea of her getting married again, but everytime I do she seems to laugh it out but deep down I really wanted that for her.
It's 7:50am already I quickly rushed to the bathroom took my bath faster than ever, I came out dried my hair with my hair dryer and walked to the dressing mirror I sat down ready for my makeover when suddenly my phone started ringing.
I quickly reached for it and behold it was Casie.
"hey bitch" I said with a bit of excitement
[Casie] bitch? Oh I see someone is a bit exited, look outside your window
"outside my window"? out of curiosity I walked towards my window drew my curtain one side and there behold Casie was, outside my gate.
[Casie] tada!. Casie yelled out before hanging up
For a moment I thought I was the most exited but outside my gate lies Casie and her parents all set up and I'm here not even doing my makeup yet
My mum who had woken up before me quickly left what she was doing in the kitchen and dashed outside to open the gate for My cousin and her parents
I resumed my makeover but was soon interrupted by Casie who was now already in my room, so fast it appears she had ran.
"for someone who claimed to be so exited here you are still struggling with your makeover" Casie said as she came forward to help me with my makeup
"I'd do say over exited"
[Casie] "hmm hmm
With the help of Casie I finished my makeover and also decided on what to wear
My dressing was similar to that of Casie's, A jean trouser and shirt and on top that a lightweight sweater
Now with my long wavy hair in order I looked at the mirror
"ready bitch?
[Casie] "what do you mean by ready " bitch I came here to help you get dress, let's go. Casie hurried out of my room
"won't you at least help me with my luggages. I said knowing fully well that Casie was already in the living room
I struggled with my luggages downstairs one after the other. mr and Mrs Lucas were already seated in the living room together with my mum discussing
It was going to be a long journey we needed to be at San Francisco international airport (SFO) on time
It was 8:20am already and my mum was already running late for her work. I knew she wouldn't be able to see me off from the airport I guess that was why both Mr and Mrs Lucas were present
[Maggie] "honey I'm sorry I won't be able to see you off, I'm already 20mins late behind time for work. But call me when you get to the airport okay?
I could notice that my mum was trying to hold tears from falling down her eyes but the moment I reached out to give her a hug her tear fell down uncontrollably
[Maggie] "you be a good girl okay...?, your mum loves you, always know that
Seeing my mum cry was something so rare, the first time I've seen her cry was when my dad left and now I'm about to leave her too
"I promise "
After a brief moment of sadness and nostalgia we all went outside ready to leave for the airport and my mum ready to for work
I gave my mum one last hug before joining Casie at the back seat with mr Lucas in the driver seat and Mrs Lucas in the passenger seat
My mum went on to open the gate for us and off we went. from the side mirror of the car I was able to see my mum waving from a distance and before I realized tears were already flowing down my cheek.
I brought out my head a bit from the car and waved her goodbye one last time
I was leaving my mum though I was exited at first, that I was leaving for college but I never imagined how the goodbye moment would feel like.
