The alley behind the club smelled of smoke and spilled liquor, but the three of them barely noticed. The real weight sat between their words.
"We can't get into that back room without a card," Kraven said, voice low. "They'll only open the door for someone holding one of those black slips."
Athena frowned. "And do you think you can get one?"
He smirked at her… sharp enough to cut anyone's ego. "I can get one but it takes time sweetheart… not tonight. Lucien has contacts… Tomorrow I'll have the card in hand."
"Just one? What about us?" Gary asked, brows pulling tight.
"Just one." Kraven's gaze flicked to Athena. "Which means it'll be me and her. That human girl saw Athena… there's a chance she might talk to her."
Athena stiffened, caught between fear and the sudden quickening of her pulse. "Why not Gary? He knows the science, he knows what to look for…"
