Chapter 51 - (A3) The Vault

The Combat Room, (as it was called in the blueprint) was humongous in size. It was about three times the size of a football field. Lin and Albert were both in awe at this sight.

Max: This is the Combat Room!!

Max announced to the rest of them, what it said on the blueprint.

Lin: Sweet!!

They walked around the large flat room. Except the weapons on the walls and huge stag head beside it, and the can of swords in tha far corner of the room, the ground was pretty plain. It had a blue pattern in the corners and edges of the room, but most of the floormat in the middle was a harsh shade of grey.

Up on the walls were spears, and arrows. There was revolver above the animal head too. It was arranged amazingly well in a pattern too. As they kept looking around, Albert noticed something.

Albert: Hey! I can sense another room on the other side of this door!!

Max had already seen the door to this other room, but he had chosen to ignore it until they get there. On it were two words, that he had already seen in the blueprint.

Melissa: What does it say?

Chuck: Yeah...I can't read it too!

Max paused for two seconds before giving the answer.

Max: "Weapons Vault".

Lin smiled like a demon when he beard those words. Anybody could make it out that he wanted to go in, despite Max wanting to not open the room. Max was well aware of the dangerous items that humanity had created, and he didn't want it to fall into anyone's hands. Even himself.

Lin: What are you waiting for? Open it!!

Chuck: I mean...you could do it yourself too!!

Lin: Well, yeah...never mind. I'll open it if you ain't gonna do it!

Lin went for the handle of the door, when he heard Max's cold voice.

Max: No!

Lin turned back angrily looking at Max, who had held his wrist and stopped him from opening it. Lin was furious until he saw Max's cold, harsh eyes staring right back at Lin. A chill ran down his spine, as the air between them tensed.

Lin: What's your problem? Let go of me!

Even though there was anger in his voice, Lin was scared. What he saw beside him was not the goofy man Max, but the God himself. An angry God. The aura that Max emitted now was threatening.

Albert: Is something the matter, Max...??

Max: Just...no...do not open that door!

Max shut his eyes close as he let go of Lin's wrist. Lin clenched his wrist with his other arm, realizing that Max's grip was too strong.

Lin: Okay!! Fine!! Do not be a bitch about this...

Max fell on one of his knees and breathed hard. Right below the room name that said "Weapons Vault" was a symbol. A nuclear symbol. This room had nuclear weapons of mass destruction. The kind that was used for genocides. Max hated seeing clips of how destructive these weapons could be, and he didn't want to open the door, even for a second. It was better left untouched.

Max grabbed the Transponder from his pocket to contact Hershel.

Max: Hershel! Can you lock the Weapons Vault room?

Hershel: Do not worry, Master Max. The room is always locked, and can be only opened when a man in power gives us a special key!

Max sighed as soon as he heard that from Hershel via the speakers. He knew that it would still be fairly easy for Lin and Albert to easily cut their way inside.

Max: Lin!! And you too, Albert!! Promise me that you will never open this room ever!!

Lin and Albert looked at each other unable to understand his actions. Max had seen a disturbing simulation back in his younger days, that showed the effects of what happened when the bomb hit Nagasaki. It was a traumatizing experience for a thirteen year old Max.

Lin: Sure...but why?

Max: Do not ask any further questions...that's it!!

Seeing a distraught Max, they both looked at each other one more time.

Lin and Albert: Okay...fine...we won't! We promise!

Max calmed down a bit. He didn't expect to see one of mankind's horrors in this place. In the few seconds after he had realized it, he had thought of many scenarios where it would be used in the present day. He even thought of using it on the Ameliorates and the Children of Creation. Soon after that, be realised that he was also starting to become like the others. He was even more terrified on what would happen if some normal humans got a hold of it.

The gang slowly moved out of the room, quietly, as the mood had completely changed, due to Max. They found a bedroom right next go the training room.

Lin: This is mine! That's it!

Everyone: What??!?!?!

Lin: It's right next to the Combat Room, so it's mine. You guys choose other rooms!

Max just stared at him, afraid that Lin might sneak into the Vault. Lin noticed the distrust in his eyes.

Lin: And I don't know what your problem is...but I promised that I won't open it right? Relax! I'm a man of my word.

Max sighed.

Max: I guess you are....Flynn!

Lin: Not you too!!

Lin became angry again and Max laughed. Chuck was down until he realised that Max was back in a good mood now.

Soon they were going to the seventh floor and the eighth floors.

Max: That's where they have the living quarters, it seems. Maybe I can finally find my room.

As they walked, Chuck noticed a narrow corridor that led to a huge door. He ran straight ahead laughing and turning back and waving at them.

Albert: He looks like a little kid visiting a new place with his parents..

Max: Maybe because....be IS a kid???

Albert: Since you are the guardian to him now, are you gonna take the fatherly duties??

Max was shocked.

Max: Me?? I might be his guardian currently, but I ain't a dad!! I'm more like an older brother of sorts! And if anyone has to be his dad, it should be you! Aren't you like thirty???

Albert: Thirty- one...but I'm not interested...

They finally caught up with Chuck, who was seeing inside the door from the tiny door. Chuck was smiling.

Melissa: What did you find, Chuck??

Chuck got down from the door and turned to Max.

Chuck: We need to go out!! The scenery is amazing!!!

Max: Out?

Albert: Scenery??

Max walked towards the door and saw through the small window on the metal door. Out there he could see a balcony like structure, making it a perfect place to look out at the forest ahead of them.

Max: Wow!!

Max grabbed the handle and tried opening it, but it didn't budge. He immediately contacted Hershel and asked him to open the door.

Hershel: In a second sir. It seems the safety lock for the children had been placed!

And soon they heard the clicking sounds inside the door, and it opened. They went out to see the gorgeous scenery. The Sun was still high above them, as it was still morning. The forest lay ahead of them, and even the largest trees were shorter than the balcony they were in.

Chuck: Too bad Lin didn't come with us to see this!!

Max: Yup!

As they stood together in the balcony, a breeze flew past them, their clothes fluttering in the air, as they looked at the Nature in front of them. Exceot in the distance, they could still see the Tower, the skies around it a lot darker. And it was out of place...in a beautiful world.
