The next day, Roseline was sitting in the quiet corner of a restaurant at a hotel, waiting for Robert's arrival. He had agreed to meet her just like Tracy had said he would.
She looked at the message she had sent to him, and a smile began to form, but she bit down on it.
"Roseline." Robert's voice called.
Roseline's head snapped up in surprise, she had not even seen or heard him walk up to her.
"Robert." She said.
"You wanted to meet, what is this about?" Robert asked, he was still standing.
"Please sit down Robert." she said, and when he wouldn't budge she quickly added, "This would not take long at all."
Finally Robert sat down reluctantly.
"I have ordered wine, I hope you don't mind sharing a drink with me?" Roseline asked.
"Why did you want to meet, Roseline?" Robert asked, ignoring her own question.
"Well a lot has happened between us in the past days, but most importantly, we have each found our own standing and partners too." she stopped, and Robert took the liberty to speak.
"Where are we going with this?" He asked.
Just then, the waiter came with a bottle of chill wine and set it between them. He placed a glass in front of Robert and one in front of Roseline. And on her instructions, he filled their glasses and placed the bottle down on the table.
Roseline nodded her thanks to him, and he took his leave.
Robert's gaze was focused on her.
"Sorry, what did you say?" she asked.
"I said, where are we going with this?" Robert repeated his question.
"Oh no where, I just thought I should apologize for everything. It really wasn't necessary and I am aware I crossed a line." Roseline said.
Robert just stared at her, surprised. He would never have believed anyone in the Brown family could apologize to him.
"Are you doing this to try and get back with me?" Robert asked, he just couldn't believe Roseline was apologizing just for the sake of it after all this while.
"No, no. That would be outrageous of me to imply, I just wanted things to be smooth between us." She said.
"Okay, alright then. Robert said, and shrugged.
"So shake hands and cheers?" Roseline asked, and stretched her hands across the table excitedly.
Robert took her hands, and then they clinked glasses and drank.
They made small talk until Robert began to feel drowsy.
"I think I had better go now, it's been a long day." He said, and shook his head to wake himself up.
"Oh I see. Forgive me, I forgot to ask, how's Jenna?" Roseline asked.
"She is recovering very well. The surgery was successful, she should come home anytime soon."
"I really should go now." Robert said, and got up. He staggered, and took another step.
He made it up to his car, and Roseline watched him fall asleep before he could even get the car started.
She whipped out her phone then, and made a call to her mother. "Mom, it worked." she said.
"I told you so. The waiter who served you is going to help you get him to the hotel." Tracy said.
"Alright then, do I have to do anything else?" Roseline asked.
"Nothing different from what we already talked about." Tracy answered.
"Okay, I'll keep you updated." Roseline said and hung up.
The waiter came out and together they brought Robert up to the hotel room. Roseline handed the waiter his payment, and then he left.
She stared at Robert's unconscious form for a while, and then set to work. She didn't want to risk chances of the drug's effect wearing off.
Roseline took off his shoes, and then his jacket. His shirt and trousers followed soon after. When she was done with him, she took off her own clothes and lay down beside him completely naked.
She wondered for how long she'd have to lay there like that, and how long the drug's effect would last. She scrolled through her phone for a while, and dropped it when she got bored.
She thought about the recent events. How she had kicked Robert out, his return with Eliana Rowe and his new fortune, and now what she had to do to make sure she has a part in it.
Roseline looked at Robert again, compared him to Preston, and shook the thoughts away. Robert didn't have the wealth Preston did or maybe he does now but he had the looks to him, and alcohol plus women would never have been a combination for him. But she needed wealth not honor or love, and so did her family, which was why he had to go.
Roseline didn't think she would fall asleep that night, but as she stared and thought, sleepiness began to wash over her. She pulled the covers up even more and turned her back to Robert's still-sleeping form.
Robert would wake up tomorrow with no memory whatsoever of what might have happened, or how he got to this hotel room. And her plan would have worked out.
A thought suddenly came to her, and she got off the bed and found Roberts clothes among the others strewn on the ground. She pressed her teeth gently to the sleeve, smearing her lipstick on it, and then went back to bed.
Soon after that, her eyes started to close again, and she didn't have enough will to keep them opened, and so she succumbed to sleep
She'd dream of the horrors of what she had just done, and what consequences that may come for her in the future and what she would do about it.
But for now at least, her plan would have worked and that was all that actually really mattered to her.
