Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Rage Over the Ruins

Meanwhile the Browns were still in shock from what they had witnessed. It had been just days ago when Robert was thrown out of their house and their lives.

Tracy had insulted him, Roseline threw the divorce papers in his face, and Eric bloodied his nose. But, in just a matter of days, his entire life seemed to have changed. He moved with elite people, and he even dined with Eliana Rowe like it was nothing at all.

"What must have happened?" Tracy asked Roseline.

"I have no idea." Roseline answered absentmindedly.

"What do you mean you have no idea? He was your husband." Tracy argued.

"Well just in case you have forgotten, he was my husband just in name. I never really gave much care to the things he did." Roseline said, running her fingers through her hair.

"So just when we threw him out, he fell into a pile of money, and met Eliana Rowe?" Tracy asked much to herself as to Roseline.

"Look, I don't know, okay? I am just as surprised as you are!" Roseline snapped.

"We have to do something." Tracy mused.

"Do what exactly?" Roseline asked.

"I don't know right now, but we have to do something. We cannot let him go just like that." Tracy said.

Roseline laughed wryly and turned to her mother, "Didn't you hear all he said? You saw him on the dance floor with Eliana didn't you? He has moved on already, there is nothing we can do from this point forward."

"There are always loopholes Roseline, we just have to find them," Tracy said.

"Eliana Rowe…" Eric trailed off, finally joining in the conversation.' "If someone like Robert could get her, don't you think I could too? See what those legs of hers could…"

Roseline cut him off by throwing one of the couch pillows at him. "What did you just say?" She thundered.

Eric glared at her, and she glared back at him.

"Stop it this instant," Tracy commanded.

Eric and Roseline sat back down, and looked away from each other.

Tracy continued, "We should be thinking of ways to turn the present situation in our favor, yet here you are, clawing at each other's throats.

"I have told you, there is nothing to be done. Even though I didn't bother to involve myself in Robert's life while we were married, I knew how he talked, how he behaved. And in everything he said at that party, there was finality, and a determination I cannot tell the meaning right now." Roseline said.

"Loopholes, loopholes. There has to be something." Tracy mused, she was pacing now.

"I am going to my room." Roseline announced and got up.

"So am I." Eric said, and turned away too.

Tracy called to them, but neither one of them stopped or turned around. She fell into a chair and sighed audibly.

Tracy still maintained her thoughts that there was something to be done, there were always loopholes and she decided she would find them.

Roseline lay on the soft mattress with her hair flowing around her head, and her feet touching the ground. She was in a bad mood.

A party that had been for her, one where she was supposed to be the main star and focus of was stolen from her, by that nuisance of an ex-husband and his new woman.

Roseline hated to admit that Eliana was better than her, but she knew it was the truth. Eliana Rowe owned a company worth billions of dollars, that alongside being the sole heiress of the Rowe family made her infinitely powerful.

The Rowe family had it all, the power, the money, everything! Which was why she found it difficult to believe that Robert would have come into such luck as to be acquainted with anyone remotely close to the Rowe family. Talk less of the only daughter, and heiress.

Roseline grabbed her phone and decided to call Preston.

He answered on the first ring. "Roseline, what do you want?" His words sounded slurred, indicating he had been drinking.

"Hey, what are you up to?" she asked, trying to keep her voice light.

"Up to? You ruined my life!" Preston shouted, his voice thick with anger. "Your family's greed tanked my business, and now you call like nothing happened?"

Roseline's heart sank. "Preston, I just wanted to talk—"

"There's nothing to talk about. You and your pathetic ex-husband cost me millions!" he roared. "Robert is dating Eliana Rowe now, and I'm stuck cleaning up your mess. We're done, Roseline. Stop calling me!"

Roseline hung up and hurled her phone at the wall with a scream.

Tracy walked in with a smile, very out of place with current feelings in the house. She walked to Roseline and sat on the bed beside her.

"Calm down Roseline." She said, smoothing her hair down, and patting her back.

"How can I be calm in a situation like this?" Roseline asked, after taking deep breaths to steady her heaving chest.

"I told you there were always loopholes, and I think I might have found one." Tracy said.

"You shouldn't have bothered, it's not like Robert would take me back," Roseline said.

Tracy wrinkled her nose and shook her head. "Who said anything about him taking you back or you taking him back?"

"So what exactly is this loophole you have found?" Roseline asked, her interest piqued.

Tracy relayed her plans to Roseline and sat up straighter when she was done.

"You think that would work?" Roseline asked her.

"I know that would work, give it a few days and then we'd go on with it." Tracy answered.

"There is just one little problem though." Roseline said.

"And what is that?" Tracy asked.

"How do I convince him to see me?" she asked.

"Don't worry, all of that will be settled. You just get prepared." Tracy said.
