Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

 DYSON'S BEDROOM – MORNING

RADIO DJ (102.3 TCN):

"GOOOOD MORNING TINLEY CITY! It's gonna be a beautiful 80-degree day, folks—no clouds, just sunshine and good jams to carry you through!"

(radio fades out)

DYSON (18) groans and stretches, still half-asleep. His dog, Jacob, a big fluffy mutt, jumps up on the bed, tail wagging, tongue out.

DYSON:

Whoa, boy—chill! You're getting bigger every day. What are you, a wolf now?

He laughs, scratches Jacob behind the ears, then pops a music tape into his old-school radio. Funky music starts playing as he runs through his morning routine.

✔️ Showers

✔️ Brushes teeth

✔️ Spends way too long fixing his hair

BATHROOM – CONTINUOUS

MRS. DOCKS (O.S.):

Dyson! Hurry up in there—I'm gonna be late for work!

DYSON (through the door):

Just a few more seconds!

MRS. DOCKS:

NO—NOW!

He rushes out, nearly colliding with her as she darts in.

KITCHEN – MOMENTS LATER

DYSON:

Hey Mom… can I borrow $40? I wanna grab some stuff at Mike's today.

MRS. DOCKS:

Didn't you get a job so you wouldn't ask me for money? And I remember telling you about that place. Mike's isn't exactly—

DYSON (cutting in):

Yeah, yeah. "Bad crowd, bad area," I know. But I'm just picking up tapes and bouncing. Mike's like family—he wouldn't let anything happen to me. Pleeease?

MRS. DOCKS (sighs):

Fine. But be home for dinner. On time.

DYSON (grinning, kisses her forehead):

Thank you! Love you, Mom!

MRS. DOCKS:

Love you too. Don't make me regret it.

APARTMENT STAIRS – LATER

Dyson's best friends, LUCAS and KATIE, are waiting at the bottom of the stairs.

LUCAS:

You get it?

DYSON (shows the $40):

I got it. This prank better be worth it—I owe her that money.

KATIE:

We're buying a $40 drone just to scare Levi. You sure this is a good idea?

LUCAS:

Trust me—it'll be worth it when he pees his pants.

KATIE:

…Okay, when you put it like that, yeah—it's worth it.

COSTUME STORE – MONTAGE

• Lucas grabs a cheap ghost costume.

• Dyson and Lucas strap it to the drone.

• Katie coaches them like it's a heist mission.

LEVI'S BACKYARD – NIGHT

They crouch in the bushes, drone ready. Lights off in Levi's room. Lucas hits record.

LUCAS (ghost voice):

"Leeeeeviiiiii… I've come for what you owe…"

LEVI (inside, drops to his knees):

No! Please, Father, I haven't even lost my virginity yet! Please forgive me!

LUCAS (ghost voice):

"There's no forgiveness left. YOUR TIME IS NOW!"

LEVI:

AHHHH! pees himself

LUCAS (laughing):

Hi Levi! Say cheese for the camera!

LEVI:

WHAT?! MAXI, I'M GONNA END YOU!

The three friends run off, laughing hysterically.

KATIE:

Oh my God. That was SO worth it.

DYSON:

That footage is gold. Literal gold.

LUCAS:

Uploading now: "Levi may not need help with football, but he needs the Ghostbusters."

WALKING – NIGHT

DYSON (checks his watch):

Oh crap—I'm late.

KATIE:

You sure about this? Your mom warned you.

DYSON:

No time for the lecture! I'll be quick.

He runs off.

MIKE'S MUSIC SHOP – 9:10 PM

Dyson bursts into the back office where MIKE, a grizzled music lover in his 50s, is waiting.

DYSON:

Sorry, I'm late—

MIKE:

Forty minutes, Dyson. Tonight of all nights?

DYSON:

I know, I know. "Men have responsibility and principles." You've said it so many times, I've got it engraved in my brain.

MIKE (sighs):

Your dad took this stuff seriously. That's what made him the man he was.

DYSON (quietly):

Yeah… until he left us behind.

MIKE:

He loved you, kid. You just don't remember how much.

The basement buzzer rings.

MIKE:

Watch the store. I've got a meeting downstairs.

DYSON:

Got it.

MUSIC SHOP – LATER

Dyson spots Lizzie, his crush since fifth grade.

DYSON:

Hey, Lizzie. Kinda late for you to be out, huh?

LIZZIE:

Aww, are you worried about me, Dyson?

DYSON:

Uh—No! I mean, yes? Maybe?

LIZZIE (laughs):

Relax. I just like the music here. It's peaceful. I've been coming for years.

DYSON:

Same. Mike was close with my dad. This place is the only thing that keeps me connected to him.

LIZZIE:

I'm sorry about your dad, Dyson. I never got to say that.

DYSON (softly):

We were kids. I didn't even know what it meant to lose someone. I just… wanted him back.

CUSTOMER #2 (annoyed):

Hey, I'd like to buy something now.

DYSON (laughs):

Duty calls. Later, Lizzie.

LIZZIE:

Bye, Dyson.

BASEMENT – MINUTES LATER

RUMBLING. SHOUTING.

Dyson hears it. He rushes down the stairs—

The Cruiz Crew gang is beating Mike bloody.

LEAD GOON (spots Dyson):

He saw us—GET HIM!

MIKE (weakly):

Run, kid—RUN!

Dyson bolts upstairs. Gunshot.

BANG!

The bullet hits him in the side He crashes to the ground just outside the shop. Bleeding. Fading.

DREAMSCAPE – CLIFFSIDE

He's somewhere else.

A man meditates on a cliff. Glowing symbols swirl around him.

DYSON (whispers):

Dad…?

DAVID DOCKS (his father):

Son? No—you're not supposed to be here yet.

DYSON:

Where are we? I'm scared. Is Mike okay? Are you real?

DAVID:

You don't have much time. Remember the game we used to play? The superhero game?

DYSON (tearing up):

Moving stuff with our minds…

DAVID:

It's all real, Dyson. Our gift. Our bloodline. Open your third eye. Believe.

DYSON:

I don't think I can. I'm cold, Dad…

DAVID:

Close your eyes. Dig deep. Think of Mom. Think of life. You can do this.

STREET OUTSIDE MIKE'S – CONTINUOUS

Dyson's body jerks.

Heartbeat.

THUMP.

His eyes snap open. Glowing gold.

He groans, hand lifting weakly—pulls the bullet out of his back using telekinesis. His wound stabilizes. He breathes.

Then he stumbles to his feet.

BASEMENT – SECONDS LATER

Mike's still alive—but barely.

MIKE (coughing blood):

Sorry, kid… Your dad wouldn't want this life for you…

DYSON (crying):

You're gonna be okay, Mike—I'll get you help.

MIKE:

No time. Just promise me… Be better than us. Keep the legacy alive.

DYSON:

Don't say that—

MIKE (firmly):

Promise me.

DYSON (sobbing):

I promise.

MIKE:

Now go. Before they come back. Run

Dyson runs.

CITY STREETS – MOMENTS LATER

Sirens wail in the distance.

Emotions overwhelm him—grief, panic, power. And then—

CRACK—FLASH.

He vanishes in a gold blink.

DYSON'S LIVING ROOM – NIGHT

THUD.

He teleports in and collapses, bleeding, gasping, shaking. His dog, Jacob, barks wildly.

MRS. DOCKS (O.S.):

Dyson?!

She rushes in and freezes—sees her son, glowing, covered in blood, shaking.

She drops to her knees, wraps him in her arms.

DYSON (barely whispering):

Mom… Mike is gone… I saw him. I saw Dad…

She freezes.

A tear slips down her cheek.

She nods. The time has come.

MRS. DOCKS (softly):

It's okay now, baby. You're safe. It's time I tell you everything.
