Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Satoru's EQ is Kinda High What an Idiot

Seeing the message, Soyo's phone slipped from her grasp. She stared at the screen in disbelief.

"This must be a dream. To dream of such a sci-fi epic... I should just go to sleep."

How could that idiot possibly get a clue? This has to be a dream!

Though it was a happy thought, Soyo was an early bird. It was about time for bed, time to wake up from this unrealistic dream.

But as she lay down and closed her eyes, her Whimsicott's body brushed against hers, and Soyo realized this might not be a dream.

Hmm... this doesn't feel like a dream...

"...It's not a dream!"

Soyo's eyes flew open. She picked up her phone again, but she had no idea how to reply.

"Why is she taking so long to reply? Is she busy?"

After two minutes with no response, Satoru stopped paying attention, which left Soyo in agony.

[...Satoru really is an idiot.]

Time passed, and morning arrived.

"I can't do this anymore." Nagasaki Soyo stared intently at her phone screen, sent her message, and then collapsed weakly onto her bed.

Satoru, having just woken up, tilted his head in confusion, seeing the several-hundred-word essay on his screen.

"Huh?"

After giving Soyo a perfunctory reply, Satoru threw off the covers and yawned, still in a daze, and prepared to go to school.

He was already in the Pokémon world; naturally, he wanted to explore it, catch strong or cool Pokémon, and build friendships with his companions.

Unfortunately, as a student, he couldn't just go traveling whenever he wanted. He needed to achieve a certain level of strength first.

Otherwise, with Team Rocket being so rampant lately, if he ran into them while traveling alone, all his Pokémon would probably be stolen.

Team Rocket's Pokémon must be strong... Surely they're not using things like Kricketune, right?

At this thought, Satoru's fighting spirit ignited, and he felt much more awake.

He decided on a small goal before becoming a Pokémon Master.

Take down Team Rocket!

Satoru brushed his teeth and washed his face, deciding on his current plan.

First, form a team → gather points → High School League → start a proper journey and challenge Gyms!

Winning his first League championship was a necessary step, and after that, taking down Team Rocket.

"Hmph hmph In the fire, in the water, in the grass, in the forest"

Satoru hummed a song, got himself ready, held Raichu in one arm, and slung Froakie over his shoulder before heading out.

As for why he didn't put them in their Poké Balls?

Naturally, he wanted to spend more time with them, to experience these wonderful creatures.

He just didn't know why, upon arriving at school, so many eyes were gathered on him. The feeling was a bit unsettling.

It wasn't like this yesterday, but today there were so many.

Satoru didn't pay it much mind and quickly entered the school building. It was late April, not long after the school year had started, and still quite cold. Though he had a strong constitution, he didn't want to stay out in the cold.

Arriving in his classroom, Satoru saw Takamatsu Tomori, who had run away yesterday, sitting there.

Although he didn't know what had happened to her, he could roughly guess that her previous team had fallen apart, which was why she chose to run when Anon hesitated.

It wasn't Anon's fault, nor was it Tomori's. It was just that they hadn't gotten to know each other well enough yet.

Of course, Satoru had a secret plan!

A Pokémon battle!

After yesterday's events, Satoru had decided to use a Pokémon battle to convey his feelings to her again.

He believed his fiery heart and a Pokémon battle could surely move her.

"Morning, Tomori."

"...Yeah, morning, Satoru."

Satoru gave a simple greeting, and Takamatsu Tomori looked up, managing a weak response.

After all, she had run away last night, and had said something strange before she left.

But Tomori's heart was a little moved. Because the boy had easily agreed to her words, without any hesitation, full of sincerity.

For some reason, Tomori felt that if she formed a team with Satoru, they could surely be together forever, happily being Pokémon trainers.

But Chihaya Anon had hesitated...

"Pocha? Pocha pocha"

Tomori's brow furrowed, and she subconsciously hugged the Piplup in her arms. Sensing its trainer had fallen into an emo state, Piplup turned its head and patted her forehead with its little flipper, as it couldn't reach her head otherwise.

Looks like she doesn't need my comfort.

Seeing this, Satoru felt a little happy. He sat down and opened his textbook.

Unfortunately, this textbook was less informative than the wikis he had used in his past life.

For example, it said that Smeargle was great at painting but useless in battle, exceptionally weak, and recommended for artists, not trainers.

Is... is this reasonable?

Smeargle, the troll Pokémon! The most wicked Pokémon!

It won the very first official tournament.

Though it was frail, Smeargle was indeed strong, and...

Extremely trolly!

Oh well... I'll just memorize the textbook's information. Maybe Smeargle is particularly hard to use in this world.

I could catch one to show the trainers of this world what true societal evil looks like.

Satoru flipped through the textbook, glancing over at Tomori. This time, she met his gaze again, looking quite timid. She was probably preparing to apologize.

"Th-that is, Satoru..."

"You don't need to worry about what happened yesterday. But if you want to join the team, just tell me. I... no, we will battle Pokémon with you for a lifetime."

Just as Tomori was about to speak, Satoru's lips curved into a cheerful smile, stopping her apology.

"Rai-Rai~" Raichu also responded to Satoru's words, looking over.

"...Okay, I'll think about it."

The timid Tomori blushed slightly and nodded.

So cool...

The thought couldn't help but cross her mind.

[Host, how is your EQ high one moment and low the next...]

Huh, what are you talking about?

Satoru's mind went blank. Wasn't his EQ always high?

[N-nothing. I just feel that if it were me, I'd have a really hard time winning you over.]

Being weird again, aren't you!

Hearing this, Satoru decided to ignore her and start planning his day.

Unfortunately, this school wasn't like the Orange or Grape Academies. Otherwise, he would spend all day outside and never come back.

After all, if you can travel with Pokémon, who needs to go to school!

Out of boredom, Satoru started scrolling through his phone, stopping when he saw a certain piece of news.

May... Bouffalant Cup?

An individual and team-based tournament. Extremely difficult but with a huge point reward.

Current strong contenders: Kessoku Band, μ's, the Service Club...

Satoru's eyes began to sparkle with excitement.

"Now, this is getting interesting."
