Chapter 90 - CHAPTER 90 (S4)

The atmosphere was thick with tension between the two; Perry and Christian. Who else? No one else had as much chemistry and hatred towards one another. Now.. where did it all start?

Back to the start of middle school.

"Yo Chris!" Jonas called out, slapping Christians shoulder as he approached from behind. "Still not that brunette?"

"I was never into her." Christian replied, scowling. "Perry. Not 'brunette'."

Jonas smirked, leaning against the locker.

"I bet $100 you can't prank her." Christian wasn't known for being a coward, of course he was going to do it. And for $100 at that? Hell freaking yeah.

"Whatever ..I'll do it." Christian replied, trying to sound stern, but couldn't help the twitch of his lips.

So, The day that followed, which happened to be Saturday; Christian got her number off of Ruby, Perry and her being pretty good friends. Christian didn't really have a plan, but he had an idea of what he was going to say. Before he knew it, Monday rolled around. Groggy, still in the process of waking up, he opened his locker.. only to see it'd been filled with paper confetti.

"The hell..?" he mumbled, rubbing his eyes once, then twice.

"Looks like you made someone mad." Jonas appeared behind Christian, looking over his shoulder. Yeah, that clicked just about right. He'd technically made a fool out of Perry.. and he kinda had an idea of how stubborn and feisty she was because of Ruby.

"..Do I at least get my 100?" he asked, feeling a little defeated.

"MY hundred, you mean. And dude, you wish. You lost the bet either way, so no. Good luck my man." He patted Christian's back before leaving.

Great.

Tuesday. Same thing. A vandalized locker. Wednesday, filled with.. socks?! Thursday, Ketchup. Amazing.. he'd have the time of his life cleaning THAT up. Friday and he'd had enough of this. She wanted to play? He'd play. But he's going to confront her. He'd never directly spoken to her, so it was a first.

"..Seriously? You're acting like a toddler about this whole thing." Christian leaned his shoulder against the lockers, staring holes through Perry.

"You were an ass for a bet, clocks as the same thing to me." she replied, barely taking a glance at him. Oh great. She was going to be difficult too? Just his lucky day.

"It wasn't that big of a deal. It was a stupid prank, alright? Leave it be, we aren't babies."

"Then leave it be, yeah. Don't talk to me and start something. Deal with it until I decide to stop." Christian gritted his teeth. She was so damn stubborn, and for what? It wasn't that serious.

"You're petty."

"And you're insensitive, we're equal." This girl was really getting on his nerves now.

"HA?!— What'd you say!? I'm not insensitive, you idiot! You're just being overdramatic."

"You used my feelings for money. That's pretty insensitive if you ask me."

Damn it, why was she so calm while arguing with him? It was just pissing him off more.

"It's your fault you took it to heart! It wasn't even that serious."

"Tch. You're such a douche bag. No wonder you don't care about anyone but yourself."

And, that was it. That was the start of it all. Every. Single. Day after that day. It was a game of back and forth. By the third day Ruby and Nicole on opposing sides found out. Not even they could stop Perry and Christian at first. They stood at the sides, accepting all the stares they got. But eventually, Nicole dragged Perry along by the back of her shirt, and Ruby palmed her hand onto Christian's face and pushed him backwards.

That was middle school. First sem, they had gotten close in a way they'd never expected to get close to anyone. Their arguments growing more and more heated, loud and harsh. There was a point in high school, when it started. They got physical. Christian would grab Perry by the collar.. even if it wasn't a hurtful grip. Perry would push him away at times. Other times she'd grab his shirt back, arguing face to face about anything they could throw at each other.

High school first semester– they were more physical than ever. But.. one student accidentally bumped into Perry from behind causing her to stumble forward and fall onto Christian. It was awkward— a heated argument cut off short and replaced with silence and the tension stretched. After that, they avoided getting too close.

High school second semester– All verbal, harsher than ever. They were 16, sure, but that clearly didn't matter. They'd end up in detention together for the 100th time after being late to class because they were too busy fighting in the empty halls.

Third.. and last semester– They fought… and fought with no end. It was a part of their daily routines, and had been for a while. They fought without a stop. Maybe it was the fact they might not see each other much after the semester was over, they wanted to spend as much time with each other in the only way they knew how— arguing like there was no tomorrow. ( And maybe, one day there won't be.) Ruby and Niclle eventually just planned to take different routes with their best friends, hoping on the lord that they wouldn't spot each other from across the cafeteria and starting yelling slurs.

Nicole was obviously the one to explain all of this. The whole group listening to him explain everything, everyone but Perry and Christian. Because they had miraculously fallen asleep maybe 15 minutes after having that… heated debate, per se. The funniest, most ironic part being that they were on the same sofa. That being, Nicole MIGHT have tipped Perry's head so it laid perfectly on Christians shoulder. And yes— they really were sitting that close, believe it or not.

"So THAT'S what happened between them? A stupid back and forth between two stubborn idiots that's technically just unresolved?" Rexine spoke, glancing over to the two.

"..Stupider than I thought, actually." Maverick mumbled, scratching his head.

"..Not stupider than you." Waylen mumbled under his breath.

"Hah?! I heard that!" Maverick frowned, crossing his arms.
