Seeing Kurenai Yuhi's condition, Tsunade felt a pang of sympathy and silently cursed Anya as a heartless bastard for causing all this mess by flirting around.
"There is still a way, though."
Hearing Tsunade's words, Kurenai Yuhi's eyes lit up with renewed hope, her expression shifting instantly into one of surprise.
A colorful pill was placed in Kurenai Yuhi's palm.
Seeing her confusion, Tsunade offered no lengthy explanation. "Try using this on him."
"But… will it work?" Kurenai Yuhi tightened her grip on the pill, hope rising in her heart.
Tsunade's expression grew complicated. "I'm not sure either. If it doesn't work, I'll think of other solutions."
Touched beyond words, Kurenai Yuhi kept murmuring, "Thank you."
Back at the Clan District, Anya sat back with relief watching his completed novel. Sailor Moon, which he had promised to write featuring Yugao as the main character, was now complete, so naturally he had invited her to come and read it.
Yugao turned each page carefully, fully engrossed. When she reached the ending, tears appeared in her eyes. Facing Anya, she questioned, "It's supposed to be a story for young girls, so why such a tragic ending? The heroine kills her beloved man with her own hands, and all the other Sailor Guardians who fought side by side die too, leaving only her to return to her past life as a princess, living alone forever."
Leaning lazily in his chair, Anya replied, "Justice wins in the end, sure, but it always comes at a price. If it were easy, wouldn't that feel fake?"
Yugao retorted with indignation, "But… novels are fictional anyway. Couldn't you have given them a happy ending?"
Anya fell silent after hearing this. Was it really fiction? There was a time when Naruto was fiction too, yet he had been reborn here. Perhaps in some other universe, a group of Sailor Guardians really was fighting evil at this moment.
"And how do you think their ending should change?" Anya dropped his indifferent attitude, seriously asking.
Yugao hesitated for a second, uncertain. "Really, I can rewrite it?"
"Of course," Anya said, giving her great freedom. "You're the main character, so as the protagonist, you should be able to defy fate itself. So, how would you change it? I'll start rewriting right away."
"No," Yugao closed the novel, slightly melancholic. "Maybe you're right. How can life be perfect from beginning to end? At least they ultimately achieved victory, didn't they?"
She got too caught up in the story—can't have that.
Anya quickly changed the topic. "By the way, I had Hakuto deliver a new ninja blade to you earlier. Why are you still carrying the old one?"
"Captain, I really like the blade you gave me. It's just... I haven't decided on a suitable name for it yet, so I kept it hanging in my room for appreciation. I haven't drawn it out." Training with blades since childhood, Yugao cherished and respected her swords greatly.
Her connection to blades was even deeper than Anya's.
"But now, I've finally decided on a name." Inspired from the book, Yugao slowly spoke two words, "Broken Crescent."
Anya furrowed his brow slightly. "Broken Crescent... doesn't that name sound too..."
"No, I'm quite fond of it. I won't change it," Yugao smiled. "When the moon wanes, its crescent shines just like a blade. Plus, both can emit light. My sword techniques gain power from moonlight at night. There's truly no better name than this."
Anya sighed. It seemed Yugao still hadn't fully moved past the ending of that book. Still, since she had made up her mind, he saw no point in arguing further.
After Yugao left, Haku entered with his belly sticking out, watching her retreating figure and saying, "Yugao might be developing feelings for you."
"Perhaps." Anya wasn't stupid—he could naturally sense Yugao's vague emotions toward him. But now, Anya no longer wanted to get involved with women. His attitude toward love was no longer as carefree as before. Now, every emotional investment required too much effort. As he once said, his heart really had gone cold.
Haku teased, "So why not go ahead and accept her affection?"
Anya smacked Haku's shapely butt without enthusiasm and replied in displeasure, "Do you really see me as a stud? If I were to pursue every girl who likes me, would I even have time?"
Haku felt some pain and complained, "Don't forget, you already have a wife back in Kiri."
"Yeah, I haven't forgotten. The timing simply hasn't matured yet." Anya sighed. If this was merely about fake marriages for mission purposes, he wouldn't have known who that girl actually was. However, now that the Zero Organization had quietly expanded and infiltrated most major nations, her identity was finally becoming apparent.
He never expected she'd turn out to be Terumi Mei—the future Mizukage. They once made a promise, but now things were indeed moving toward each other's direction. Kiri needed her during these turbulent times. Even if Anya went there, retrieving her might not even be possible, and facing Master Gen alone could be a serious problem—potentially enough to make him die from anger.
At that moment, Haku sensed something and whispered, "Someone's coming. I'll leave first."
Anya helplessly said, "You don't need to do this."
"No, Red often goes on missions away from home. When she's finally back, she surely wants to spend time alone with you."
After saying this, Haku left behind a faint fragrance and hurriedly disappeared.
Kurenai Yuhi walked in looking somewhat travel-worn, apparently returning directly home after completing a mission. Before Anya could even greet her, she brought over a bowl of water.
Looking curiously at the bowl, Anya noticed colorful ripples within and smelled an oddly pleasant aroma. Recognizing various poisons well, Anya instantly identified at least five animal-based deadly toxins perfectly blended with several plant-derived poisons. Together, they created a sweet fragrance so intoxicating that ordinary people would die immediately upon contact with even a single drop.
Only three people across the entire ninja world could create poison of this level: Anya, Sasori, and Tsunade.
Clearly, this potion must've come from Tsunade.
Are they trying to poison their own husband or what?
Watching Kurenai carefully carrying the bowl toward him, Anya's eyes narrowed. Was she going to ask him to drink it? Would she add something like: "Be a dear, Dear Lang, and finish your potion"?
As Anya was lost in thought, Kurenai Yuhi indeed placed the bowl of water in front of her, saying with full expectation, "Darling, drink it."
Anya was on the verge of tears, her voice trembling as she asked, "Can you at least tell me first why I should drink this?"
Kurenai answered honestly, "This is a secret recipe given to me by Hokage-nee. She said there's something wrong with your body, which is why I've never been able to get pregnant. With this, your constitution can be improved."
Poison improving one's constitution—saying that would probably make someone laugh to death.
Anya raised her voice slightly, "You actually believed that?"
"Anyway, I no longer believe you," Kurenai said, blushing, "You always say it's because of the wrong technique, but even after trying so many times, nothing works. Today, you must drink it."
What could Anya possibly say? She could only sigh heavily, brace herself, and drink it all in one gulp.
