Chapter 13 - All that glitters

The textbook I started with was One thousand magical herbs and fungi by Phyllida Spore since it overlapped with the topics I had been reading up on in the library. An interesting thing that I discovered was that a few of the herbs and fungi mentioned in the textbook didn't hold the nonmagical and nonobvious properties of the muggle published ones. For example the common dandelion that had magical uses in potions for healing but no mention of it's liver supporting potential nor it's skin care usages. There were others but not any really big ones.-

Still it was interesting to see the few examples of nonmagical people knowing things that magical ones missed. I could probably make a small bit of fame and profit if I were to compile these examples into a book, kind of like an updated version of what the wizarding world already had. I shook my head at the idea though as it was too much work for no good payout. If I really wanted easy wealth and fame like that I could just copy what Lockhart did and steal others adventures before writing out the tales. I made a face at the idea though as even I could tell how distasteful that was.-

I completed this textbook around the time the sun started to set and dinner was served. I put the book back in my trunk and then put that in my inventory before going to sleep. The next morning I woke up slightly after dawn which was close to my ideal time. I sat up and began my practice with bringing my magic up before allowing it to recede over and over again. I wasn't worried about the ministry pinging me with the trace while doing it since I wasn't actually using the magic, just bringing it up internally.-

The time I took to do this improved by around thirty seconds but was starting to slow down the lower the time I took. Right now I only needed about eight minutes to bring it up but I wasn't making any large jumps forward in progress anymore. Once the sounds of the other children waking up were heard I used fifty system coins to initiate the contact with Whitebeard. The world around me greyed out as sound stopped and a large screen of white manifested before shifting to show me Whitebeard.-

Immediately I noticed that he had some injuries on his chest including a new set of three long slashes in his chest. He seemed to have been resting in his seat when I made contact as he opened his eyes with a briefly confused look before his mind caught up and his gaze focused.

"Gurarara! You kept me waiting brat!" he said with a laugh and a scold that didn't hold any real heat to it.

"You said three days so I gave you three days and nights. Fights at your level tend to take a while to resolve after all. I assume you caught Blackbeard from the wounds on your chest?" I asked and he nodded.

"You were right, Teach hid himself well. Without you he might have succeeded and I am grateful. As promised enough gold to buy a new ship." he said and the system chimed up.

{Trading partner: Edward Newgate wishes to give the user items: 20X gold bars, Treasure: Devil fruit: Yami Yami no mi. Accept items Y/N?}

"Whoa there! What's this about a devil fruit!? No a better question is why THAT one!? Do you realize how powerful that fruit is!?" I demanded in shock.

"Gurarara! It was meant to be a surprise but I talked it over with my sons and daughters and they all agree that you should have it. Consider it a gift in thanks." the old pirate said with a grin.

"Ha~ Fine I'll be shameless enough to accept this gift of yours but in return let me let you in on something. The one Roger was waiting for is Straw hat Luffy. Shanks knows what I am talking about." I said with a helpless sigh.

Don't get me wrong I was thrilled to get the fruit even though I absolutely wouldn't be eating it myself. The main thing that made me reluctant to accept the fruit was that because of how the fruits operated. I wasn't sure if whoever I sold it to ate it would suddenly cause that fruit to circulate through that world from then on after they died. Devil fruits reincarnated into the nearest compatible fruit after all and in a totally different world I didn't know if that meant the fruit was now bound to that world or it it would somehow still incarnate into the one piece world after it's user in the other world died.-

"That brat who has been kicking up waves is the one Roger was waiting for? Gurarara! Looks like I need to keep an eye on him then!" Whitebeard said with an amused laugh.

"I suppose that's the end of this transaction then. If you stay alive for a few more months I should have some stuff that would interest you. I'll be starting my schooling as a wizard after all and there are plenty of potions and items that i'm sure I can get you to spend some gold on!" I said with a grin and he just grinned right along with me.

"Gurarara! I'll be waiting then!" he said before I ended the contact as the items he sent over were deposited into my inventory.

I didn't hesitate to take out the fruit as well as a bar of gold to appraise.
