Chapter 30 - Big fish

As I sat there in my cabin on the train reading the train was starting to load up and more than a few times someone had looked into my cabin before leaving. I wasn't too surprised as I imagined the last cabin in the train would be popular due to how close to the entrance and exit for this segment of the train it was. I found it funny how easy it was to guess why these people didn't even bother to see if I minded sharing the cabin. Most likely they saw my fine clothes and immediately pegged me for some kind of spoiled noble brat and chose to go elsewhere as a result.-

This changed about ten minutes after I had settled in as two girls appeared at the door. The first was a young blonde witch with sharp blue eyes and smooth aristocratic features that had a bit of baby fat still clinging to them. The second was a hazel haired witch with slightly more plain features but the same baby fat in her face.

"Are those seats taken?" the first girl asked pointing to the seats across from me calmly.

I shook my head "Not at all, you are free to them." I said casually before going back to my book.

The two girls shared a look before entering the room with their trunks behind them and putting the things away. They took their seats after that but clearly they were both uncomfortable with the silence and tried to make small talk.

"I am Daphne Greengrass, Heiress to the most ancient and noble house Greengrass." the blonde said with a proud expression.

"Tracey Davis, half blood." the brunette said with a bright smile.

I closed my book calmly "Alexander Drake, aspiring merchant." I said with both girls looking confused.

"Does that mean you are pure blood or not?" Daphne asked voicing her confusion.

"I believe ones blood status is irrelevant. What truly matters is what they are capable of. To answer your question however I don't know my blood status as I am an orphan. Could be half, could be muggleborn. No way to know without a test." I say with a shrug.

Both girls shared the same disbelieving look.

"But how are your clothes so fine if you are an orphan?" Tracey asked curiously.

"As I said I am an aspiring merchant. These clothes were paid for thanks to a successful deal I made." I said honestly.

"Nonsense! There's no way you could ever make such a large deal. Unless you were dealing with illegal things that is." Daphne said with a disbelieving look.

"Is it truly so hard to believe that I had something valued by someone else so highly? Even now I have several items that if I sold them would likely go for a fortune. A fruit that allows one to create and control darkness itself in exchange for the inability to swim and injuries causing much more pain for example." I said with a smirk.

For those wondering why I am spilling something like that the answer is very simple, profit. Daphne Greengrass was a minor character in the books as she was never really involved with cannon ever and thus not focused on. In this world however she is absolutely a big fish. The Greengrass family is part of the sacred twenty eight. Twenty eight families considered to have the "purest" and oldest blood in all of magical Britain. A true noble heiress, magical royalty almost. If I could make a connection to her or even better her family that would be an extremely valuable thing indeed.-

It was made fairly clear in the books that the noble families tended to hoard rare knowledge and materials from the general population and I wanted that stuff. I saw nothing wrong with using the advantage I had over everyone else in this world to achieve that end. Every little or not so little advantage I get from using my system to trade with other universes is in truth only a single advantage as it all boils down to the system in the end.-

"If you were just going to lie you might as well have claimed something that actually exists like the philosophers stone!" Daphne said with a scoff.

I just grinned widely at that however "Oh but I am not lying, I have the fruit in my trunk. Can't prove that it does as said without someone eating it but I am absolutely sure it works." I said confidently.

"Hmph! And you will not even show me this so called darkness fruit as a result right?" she said with a snort of derision.

"Quite the opposite really. I'd be more than happy to show it to you." I said still grinning.

For the first time she looked less confident that I was lying once I said that. It was easy to understand why too as she had likely written me off as blowing smoke only for me to be willing to back it up with actual evidence. She probably still thought I was talking nonsense but likely realized the possibility I wasn't actually existed.

"Fine then. Show us this fruit of yours." she said still disbelieving but slightly worried.

I didn't hesitate to stand up an pull my trunk down and set it on my lap so I could open it away from their sight. I reached into the trunk and secretly pulled the Yami Yami no mi out of my inventory before closing my trunk and holding it up. Clearly the fruit was nothing like anything they had ever seen which made sense as devil fruits had very unique appearances.-

"It looks poisonous." Tracey said with a concerned look.

"It's not, definitely won't taste good though. I'm told that the flavor of similar fruits taste absolutely wretched in fact. The powers they grant are worth it though." I said still grinning.

"Fine! I will admit that you have a strange fruit that I can't identify but I still don't believe it does what you said it can." Daphne said reluctantly.

"As I said unless someone eats it theres no way to prove it and I doubt you can make such a deal on your own." I said throwing her own previous accusation back at her playfully.
