Chapter 223 - Chat with Qrow

"Oz wouldn't fall for a trick like that." he said angrily taking a drink from his flask.

"Of course he would. It's about control. Not over you, but of the narrative. If he tells you the story from his perspective then he'll be able to keep up his doomed savior image. How he is on the side of good and light on a divine mission. He'll tell you the truth of course since he wouldn't dare not to when I will but he'll make it fit his narrative." I said calmly.

"So the truth but biased." he said with a scrunched up expression "That sounds like Oz alright." he muttered.

"Don't take my word for it go ask him yourself. If you think he lied about anything or left anything out you can always come buy the unabridged version from me. I have no stake in hiding the truth after all. I don't have to deal with it since I don't live here." I said casually.

"Why tell me this at all then?" he asked confused.

"Ruby is my contact in this world and everything else branches off of her. Keeping everyone who protects her in the loop keeps her safe and the profits flowing. Simple business strategy no?" I said with a shrug.

"So you are willing to stomp on the toes of one of if not the most influential person on the planet because it might keep your profits coming?" he asked dumfounded.

"Honestly if I wasn't eighty percent sure it wouldn't bloody work I'd just capture him and Salem, throw them in a box and hurl the thing into space. Can't be a problem on Remnant if they aren't on Remnant right?" I said bluntly.

"Why wouldn't that work?" he asked clearly thinking that was a really good idea actually.

"A few possible reasons I can't confirm without actually making an attempt. The first is that their magic would let them escape the box and just come back. The second is that his soul would just find it's way back anyways once he died out there. The third is the brother gods would push the box back because it simply wouldn't do for their plan to be thwarted. The fourth is that the brother gods would show up the moment we made an attempt for the same reason. That last option particularly bad for me." I said frankly.

"The brother gods are real!?" Qrow asked horrified.

"Oh yes. Very real and very powerful. Much more than me right now anyways. I'm pretty damn powerful but I'm nowhere near "shatter a moon on my way out the door" powerful." I say seriously.

"How strong are you?" he asked curiously.

"Strong enough that I could erase a major city in a single attack if I went all out. Which is to say strong enough to treat both Ozpin and Salem like flies to be swatted." I said casually.

"That's not terrifying at all. Are all wizards that strong in training?" he asked with a horrified look.

"Most certainly not. Even among adult wizard my level of power is close to the apex. Though to be fair my city erasing ability is not part of my magic at all. That comes from my devil fruit. Taiyang should have explained what those are I would hope." I explained calmly.

"The fruits that give you something like a semblance that isn't one. It was a little unclear." he admitted.

"They fall into roughly three categories. Zoan, logia and paramecia. Zoans let you turn into animals, Logia allow you to create, control and become elemental forces. Paramecia are the more conceptual abilities like springs, weapons, jackets, that sort of stuff. My fruit is the lightning logia. It's also considered the second most powerful of all logia fruits with the nickname "invincible logia" because it has extremely high destructive, speed and utility functions." I explained.

"I mean it IS lightning so I guess that makes sense." he said thoughtfully.

"Yes, electricity is an incredibly powerful thing to have complete control of." I nod.

"And Ruby could get one of these fruits if she wanted? Just like that?" he asked.

"Well no, she'd still have to trade for it but she absolutely could obtain a devil fruit without much trouble if she did. As for the exact one she'd get, that's mostly down to luck or Whitebeard going out of his way to get the one who currently has it." I say with a shrug.

"Right, that whole slavery not slavery thing." he said drinking again.

"The option for slaves exists in the frame work of the system but no one actually uses it. We capture, extract the copies we want and then release or in certain cases kill the people." I say seriously.

"And that's better how? You are still treating people as commodities in the end." he pointed out.

"Do you know what a slave actually is? It's not so simple as simply treating people as items to be bought sold and traded. There is far more to it than that. Slavery is treating people like that and then forcing them to work for you with no rights. It's not just about purchasing but use as well. And what we do isn't about the people, it's the stuff they have. We don't want the people, those are merely the containers for the product we want. What we do isn't remotely as bad as slavery, it would be more likened to armed robbery." I explain seriously.
