Chapter 27 - Equipment

A few minutes later, Marcus followed a hovering servo-skull to a room. This room was Magos Galio's exclusive weapon and equipment collection. Just moments ago, Marcus had successfully struck a deal with Galio: he would exchange a plasma cutter for three pieces of personal weapon equipment.

After the identification system scanned the servo-skull and recorded the entrant's information, the door opened. Walking into the room, Marcus looked around. As a Magos of the Adeptus Mechanicus, Magos Galio's room was much larger than the one Marcus had stayed in before. It was filled with all sorts of weapons and equipment. Ryzan-pattern hellguns, Kasrkin carapace armor, chainswords for mortals, plasma guns, meltaguns, flamethrowers, grenade launchers... It was a miniature armory! Upon seeing these armaments, Marcus's eyes immediately lit up.

Marcus then began to carefully select his items. Since he was limited to three pieces of equipment, Marcus had to choose meticulously. First, he ruled out consumable items like medical stimpacks and various explosives. The former was because, after being enhanced by the T-Virus, Marcus's recovery ability was already very strong. If he encountered an injury he couldn't quickly recover from, even a medical stimpack wouldn't be much help. As for the latter, only a fool would choose them.

Armor-piercing grenades and melta bombs were indeed very powerful, capable of directly killing armored enemies of the caliber of a Thousand Sons Scarab Occult Terminator. However, once he descended to Avarax, Marcus could simply requisition such consumables directly from the local garrison. After all, he now held the rank of Lieutenant, considered a mid-level officer. There was no need to waste an equipment slot for them.

Due to the presence of mind power, Marcus only needed to control throwing knives to harvest ordinary Tyranid creatures in groups. Only groups of Warrior Tyranids, Scythe Mantises, and Venomthropes posed a certain threat to him. Even with the acceleration of mind power, ordinary throwing knives found it difficult to penetrate the chitinous carapaces of special units; only red orc choppas could achieve this. Furthermore, Marcus would not only face the Tyranid but also the Red Sorcerers of the Thousand Sons. These Red Sorcerers all wore power armor, giving them significantly higher defense than the Tyranid. Therefore, what Marcus needed most now was a weapon that could consistently provide armor-piercing firepower.

While thinking, Marcus approached the weapon he had chosen: a Ryzan-pattern hellgun. A hellgun is essentially a laser weapon with greater power and stronger armor-piercing capabilities than a standard-issue lasgun. Unlike ordinary lasguns which use energy magazines for reloading, hellguns are typically powered by an energy backpack. This gives them stronger power and a more abundant ammunition supply.

The Ryzan-pattern hellgun is a premium hellgun, manufactured with the best materials by the forge world Ryza. Powered by an oversized backpack-style power array, by adjusting the output power of the energy backpack, the Ryzan-pattern hellgun is capable of emitting laser beams that can penetrate Ceramite. Therefore, the Ryzan-pattern hellgun is highly favored by Stormtroopers in the Imperium of Man.

The Ryzan-pattern hellgun in front of Marcus had several energy supply conduits extending from its body, connecting to an energy backpack beside it. Marcus picked up the hellgun and the energy backpack beside it, weighing them. The energy backpack weighed about ten kilograms, while the hellgun itself weighed around five kilograms. For Marcus currently, the weight was still within an acceptable range. After picking up the hellgun and familiarizing himself with its various components and firing mechanism, Marcus set it aside.

Now he needed to choose the remaining two pieces of equipment. Soon, he locked onto a full Kasrkin carapace armor. Kasrkin are elite mortal troops within the Cadian regiments, and the full carapace armor they wear is incomparable to the carapace armor of ordinary Cadian soldiers. In fact, only a very small number of Astra Militarum regiments are even equipped with carapace armor. Most Astra Militarum basic soldiers wear flak armor, which offers weaker defense.

Unlike the battle-scarred carapace armor Marcus had found before, which only covered a small portion of his body, the Kasrkin carapace armor could cover the wearer's entire body, providing more comprehensive protection. It also came with practical features like long-range communication and Auspex scanning.

Not only that, the Kasrkin carapace armor also specifically featured a fully enclosed helmet. It integrated functions such as gas filtration, shaded visor, encrypted communication, and battlefield recording. In the Imperium of Man, from common soldiers in the lower ranks to Astartes in the upper echelons, there was a habit of not wearing helmets. Many believed it would obscure the Emperor's light. Even some who donned their helmets before battle would actively remove them once the fighting reached a fever pitch, allowing the Emperor to see them more clearly. Marcus had no such bad habit. On a real battlefield, with bullets and artillery flying everywhere, not wearing a helmet could easily lead to being headshotted by a stray round. Although Marcus was endowed with "Combat Instinct," he wouldn't place all his hopes on a skill.

Reaching out, Marcus took down the Kasrkin carapace armor and immediately put it on under the guidance of the servo-skull nearby. Then Marcus picked up the hellgun from the ground nearby and slung the energy backpack onto his back.

For the last piece of weapon equipment, Marcus chose a chainsword for mortals. Marcus had long coveted the chainswords wielded by Titus and the others. Although in terms of power, a chainsword couldn't compare to a power weapon, it looked cool! Before his transmigration, Marcus's favorite melee weapon in Space Marine 2 was the chainsword. As an iconic Astartes weapon, on par with the bolter, if he didn't use a chainsword at least once, he couldn't really say he had been to the Warhammer Universe!

At this point, Marcus had completely selected his weapons and equipment. He was fully clad in Kasrkin carapace armor, with a sealed helmet on his head. On his back, he carried an oversized backpack-style power array. His left hand held a Ryzan-pattern hellgun, and his right hand held a chainsword.

Coupled with Marcus's already tall stature of 1.9 meters, putting aside his combat effectiveness for a moment, at least in terms of appearance, he was countless times more refined than the shoddy equipment Marcus had used back in Kadaku. Now, Marcus was confident that with the help of this equipment, he could pose a threat to enemies of the Astartes caliber.
