Chapter 46 - Victory

Seeing that the zoanthrope's psychic shield had disappeared, the meltagun, which Marcus had hidden on the ceiling using mind power, immediately swooped down and pressed its muzzle against the zoanthrope's damaged body.

As the trigger was pulled, a scorching torrent instantly erupted. The zoanthrope's flesh, designed by the Hive Mind using Eldar genetic sequences specifically for releasing terrifying psychic power, was immediately engulfed by the molten torrent.

"Sizzle, sizzle."

After a few sounds of flesh being charred, half of the zoanthrope's body melted into a disgusting puddle of bloody slime in an instant.

At the same time, Marcus's hellgun and the plasma pistol behind him continued to fire. Without the protection of its psychic shield, scorching laser beams and plasma continuously bombarded the zoanthrope's fragile fleshy body.

Finally, under the quadruple assault of the psychic flying knife, meltagun, hellgun, and plasma pistol, the once incredibly powerful zoanthrope, capable of destroying a Lehman Russ tank with a single blow, died a stifled death.

"Unlocked Bestiary: Zoanthrope."

Hearing the system's voice, Marcus's previously tense mind immediately relaxed.

Then, Marcus looked up at other parts of the battlefield. After the zoanthrope's death, the previously enraged Tyranid immediately lost their psychic support and became vulnerable.

On the battlefield, most Tyranid Warriors had already died under the hunting of the lictor and cenomthrope. A small number of Tyranid Warriors, unable to dodge in time, were smashed into minced meat by the Exocrine.

Without the synaptic command of the Tyranid Warriors, cannon fodder units like Hormagaunt and Gun Worm immediately fell into disarray and were quickly torn to shreds one by one by the Tyranid warbeasts summoned by Marcus. Before long, all Tyranid in the area were slaughtered.

Thousands of Tyranid corpses piled up like mountains, covering most of the area, and the fishy smell of Tyranid blood permeated everywhere. Even though Marcus wore a fully enclosed helmet that could filter most toxic gases, he still wrinkled his nose, irritated by the smell.

Standing still, he recovered slightly from the mental fatigue caused by excessive use of mind power. Marcus then called over the remaining Tyranid warbeasts on the field. After the intense battle just now, these Tyranid warbeasts all carried injuries of varying sizes.

The cannon fodder units, Hormagaunt and Gun Worm, died directly from enemy fire. The Tyranid Warriors wielding boneblades and lash whips suffered the most severe injuries because they charged into battle alongside the Exocrine.

Seeing that the Tyranid Warriors' self-healing abilities alone could not repair such severe damage in a short time, Marcus had the lictor nearby strike down and sever the heads of these two Tyranid Warriors. This way, in 24 hours, these units would be as good as new.

As for the other Tyranid Warriors wielding ranged symbiotic weapons, they sustained relatively minor damage and could quickly recover with their self-healing abilities. Marcus then recalled them to the bestiary.

The Lictor, venomthrope, and neurothrope, these three special units, sustained almost no damage. Marcus only recalled the more conspicuous neurothrope, while the lictor and venomthrope remained in place.

Finally, Marcus looked at the Exocrine nearby. At this moment, the Exocrine's massive body was still covered with many fragments of Tyranid limbs. Due to multiple charges just now, the Exocrine was still opening its ferocious maw to dissipate heat.

In the battle just now, the Exocrine fully unleashed its terrifying power as a BOSS-level unit. The number of Tyranid killed by its charges and huge scythe-like claws alone was more than all the other Tyranid warbeasts combined.

Moreover, thanks to its heavy armor covering its entire body, among the group of Tyranid just now, only the Tyranid Warriors wielding venom cannons could pose a certain threat to the Exocrine. And these Tyranid Warriors happened to be the primary hunting targets of the lictor. Therefore, the Exocrine sustained almost no damage.

Marcus walked over, patted the Exocrine's thick carapace, and then recalled it to the bestiary.

Next, Marcus looked at the system panel. On the bestiary interface, a beautiful card representing the zoanthrope had already appeared. Without hesitation, Marcus immediately summoned the zoanthrope.

As a white light flashed, the zoanthrope's bloated body floated before Marcus, emitting a strong psychic aura. The zoanthrope slowly lowered its height, deactivated its psychic shield, and then nudged closer to Marcus.

Marcus felt that the zoanthrope in front of him seemed to have a more autonomous mind than the other Tyranid warbeasts he had summoned, though he wasn't sure if it was just his imagination. And its current actions seemed to be... acting spoiled???

Feeling the emotions transmitted through the connection with the zoanthrope, Marcus's expression was a bit strange. However, in the end, he still reached out and stroked the zoanthrope's pitch-black chitinous carapace. Marcus could feel through the connection that after being stroked like this, the zoanthrope's mood seemed to become even more joyful. Its bloated body also began to sway slightly from side to side under the influence of psychic power. At a glance, it had a strangely cute quality, which formed a huge contrast with the zoanthrope's ferocious appearance.

"Good boy, you'll be my killing machine..."

With a complex expression, Marcus recalled the zoanthrope to the bestiary, deciding to find another opportunity to test the zoanthrope's power next time.

Because the effect of the Energy Feedback skill was too strong just now, it directly extracted most of the zoanthrope's psychic reserves and destroyed the structural stability of its body. This led to Marcus quickly killing the zoanthrope with almost no effort, and he did not get to see it at full power.

However, thinking back to the scene where the zoanthrope caused a chain explosion on the bridge, destroying several Lehman Russ tanks, Marcus knew that the zoanthrope's terrifying power was absolutely beyond his expectations. If it weren't for the unexpectedly good effect of Energy Feedback, even with the Exocrine and other Tyranid warbeasts assisting Marcus, this battle would have been extremely difficult.

Now, Marcus already held two BOSS-level Tyranid warbeasts. If he summoned both the Exocrine and the zoanthrope simultaneously, with the former responsible for soaking damage and disrupting enemy formations, and the zoanthrope responsible for psychic attacks, they would be able to completely overwhelm small to medium-sized Tyranid swarms that had no or only a few special units.

Marcus looked at the system panel. He had now collected two BOSS-level units of the Tyranid from the original game. The remaining two were the Tyranid Hive Tyrant and the Bio-Titan. The latter, being a Titan unit, was not to be mentioned for now. But for the Tyranid Hive Tyrant, which possessed both terrifying physical strength and powerful psychic abilities, Marcus was already making plans in his mind.
