Chapter 47 - Biovore

After dealing with the zoanthrope, Marcus immediately took the elevator and left the building, not lingering for long.

Without the psychic attacks from the Enhanced Lictor, the Imperial Guard on the bridge had already launched their signature counter-charge. Marcus even saw a Baneblade super-heavy tank positioned in the center of the Imperial Guard.

Under the terrifying suppressive firepower of the Lehman Russ tanks and the Baneblade super-heavy tank, the Imperial Guard was steadily pushing their defensive line forward. If nothing unexpected happened, it wouldn't be long before the Imperial Guard regained control of the bridge.

Taking advantage of no one noticing him, Marcus quickly left the vicinity of the building with the Scythe Mantis and Venomthrope by his side. After finding another vantage point, Marcus opened his auspex to check his next destination.

According to his previously planned route, he would first head to the Department of Internal Affairs Building next to the Thassean Temple. Then, he would pass through it to enter the Thassean Temple itself. This route was also the path taken by Titus Squad in the original game. Marcus also wanted to see if he could encounter Titus and his two companions in these areas.

After confirming the target location and route, Marcus, as before, had the Scythe Mantis and venomthrope harvest scattered Tyranid in the surroundings. The neurothropes monitored the movements of large-scale Tyranid forces in real-time from the sky. He, meanwhile, focused on his journey.

Marcus did not choose to walk on the wide, broken streets or the uneven, scattered rooftops. Instead, he traversed through various narrow and dark alleys. Although this was slower, it had the advantage of not attracting the attention of the Tyranid.

While on the move, Marcus began to ponder. According to the plot, after entering the Department of Internal Affairs Building, he would have to face the Chaos Thousand Sons forces. If Marcus had any reservations about encountering the Thousand Sons before, after witnessing the effects of the Energy Feedback skill firsthand, he now had ample confidence.

Those Red Word Warriors, whose souls were forever trapped in their power armor by Ahriman's Rubric of Ahriman spell because they lacked psychic talent, were essentially stiff, unmoving puppets and posed little threat. However, the Thousand Sons Sorcerers commanding these Red Word Warriors were all Psykers and would undoubtedly be greatly affected by the powerful effects of Energy Feedback.

Just as Marcus was deep in thought, the neurothropes, which had been circling in the sky, suddenly landed beside him and let out a few chirps. Because Marcus and the Tyranid warbeasts he summoned only had a vague psychic link, only Marcus could issue commands to them through words and the psychic link. The Tyranid warbeasts, however, could not directly communicate with Marcus.

Therefore, Marcus had trained them beforehand, where specific numbers of chirps represented specific events. The number of chirps his beasts just made meant that it had discovered a designated Tyranid target.

"Lead the way."

Marcus immediately changed his direction and followed them. At the same time, the Scythe Mantis and Venomthrope, who had been following Marcus, also moved towards that direction at a faster speed.

A few minutes later, Marcus saw the target they had pointed to. Marcus first found a relatively intact house to hide in, casually clearing out a few Hormagaunt that were feasting on human corpses inside, then looked out through the window.

It was a medium-sized group of Tyranid, estimated to be around tens of thousands, currently besieging an Imperial defensive facility. More precisely, Marcus's target was a special unit located behind this group of Tyranid—the biovore.

At this moment, at the rear of the Tyranid, three biovores had deeply rooted their claws into the ground and were continuously firing powerful Spore Mines of various types using the Spore Mine launchers on their backs: frag, bio-acid, venom... Various Spore Mines were drifting through the air, rapidly approaching the Imperial Guard's fortress.

Although most of these Spore Mines were shot down and detonated by the Imperial Guard in advance, a small number of Spore Mines still successfully broke into the position, releasing large amounts of chitin fragments and corrosive acid, causing heavy casualties to the Imperial Guard. If these three biovores were not dealt with quickly, the Imperial position would eventually be breached.

The Imperial Guard within the position naturally knew this, but they were helpless due to the lack of long-range heavy firepower, unable to threaten these three biovores. Their mortar ammunition had long been exhausted under the continuous assaults of the Tyranid.

Looking at these three biovores, Marcus's eyes narrowed. Although these creatures, like the Scythe Mantis and Venomthrope, belonged to special units, they were much more difficult to deal with than the latter two.

Firstly, because the biovores were covered in thick carapaces over most of their bodies, their defense was much higher than that of ordinary special units, making them difficult to kill with normal firepower.

Secondly, if the biovores could not be dealt with in a short period, then an overwhelming number of Spore Mines would appear, making it even harder to deal with the biovores.

In Marcus's hands, probably only the meltagun and melta bomb had the power to kill a biovore in one hit. Moreover, Marcus's current mind power could not extend that far, making him unable to control the meltagun or melta bomb to reach the biovore.

After a brief thought, Marcus took out the two melta bombs he had and handed them to the Scythe Mantis beside him. The Scythe Mantis took the melta bombs and then swallowed them directly into its mouth, hiding them under a pile of twisted tentacles.

Then, the Scythe Mantis quickly entered an invisible state, jumped onto the surrounding rooftops, and stealthily ran towards the location of the biovores with the two melta bombs. On the battlefield, neither the Astra Militarum in the Imperial position nor the charging Tyranid noticed the Scythe Mantis constantly leaping on the surrounding rooftops.

Soon, the Scythe Mantis stealthily arrived next to the three biovores. Its perfect camouflage prevented the biovores and the Tyranid Warrior nearby from noticing the Scythe Mantis.

Extending two sharp claws, the Scythe Mantis pulled out the melta bombs hidden in its mouth and quickly threw them near two of the biovores. Then, it quickly moved away from the melta bomb's blast radius.

From a distance, Marcus, who had been observing the Scythe Mantis's actions through the hellgun's scope, saw that the melta bombs were deployed and immediately pressed the detonation button in his hand.

Two low "humming" sounds resonated inside the melta bombs. Immediately, the concentrated fusion fuel inside the melta bombs was directly ignited.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

Two massive, scorching fireballs shot into the sky, directly illuminating more than half of the battlefield. The two biovores at the center of the explosion were instantly obliterated by the melta bombs, leaving not a single trace. Even the Tyranid Warriors near the biovores were directly knocked to the ground by the aftermath of the explosion, and most of their chitinous carapaces were melted away.

Even Marcus, the instigator, was surprised by the immense power of the melta bomb.

"Beastiary Unlocked: Biovore"

The system's prompt sounded in Marcus's ear.

After nodding in satisfaction, Marcus left his original position and once again rushed towards the Department of Internal Affairs Building. He did not go to support the Imperial Guard position again.

Anyway, the most troublesome biovores among the Tyranids had already been blown up by him, with two dead and another half-crippled. Even without his help, the Imperial Guard could still hold on for a considerable amount of time until reinforcements or supplies arrived.
