Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Gildarts's Panic

"Hmm? Why the sudden thought?" Makarov and the still-present Laxus looked surprised. They hadn't expected Rayn to make such a request.

"My body isn't fully developed, making fights too passive," Rayn said, holding up his arm and clenching his fist, his expression a little frustrated.

He had noticed this during his sparring sessions with Makarov. This time, in the fight against Borg and the others, this weakness became even more apparent. Borg's physique was already strong, and with his giant axe, his attack range was ridiculously long. Even with the Boosted Gear for defense, the fight was still somewhat restrictive.

So, Rayn thought of Makarov's Giant Magic. Before he was fully grown, this magic could make up for this shortcoming.

"Tch, just a kid after all," Laxus sneered and turned to leave.

"..."

This request left Makarov a little stunned. He had thought it might be because his magic was powerful, or perhaps because it looked cool. He never imagined it was for such a reason. But he looked Rayn up and down.

He had been eating and drinking better recently and had started to grow. He was fine among his peers, but in a fight with an adult, he was indeed at a disadvantage.

"I understand. If you want to learn, I can teach you," Makarov said, having understood the reason, not refusing the request.

"Thank you, Master." Even though he had expected it, Rayn couldn't help but smile with excitement when he got the approval.

"I can teach you, but how well you learn is up to you," Makarov said first, waving his hand casually.

Magic was all about adaptability. Without the aptitude, no amount of learning would have much effect. But thinking about how Rayn's magic had an extraordinary effect on strengthening his body, perhaps this magic would also suit him.

"I understand. I'll be going then." Rayn naturally knew this. But since Makarov was willing to teach, he didn't ask for much. Even if he couldn't become a giant, at least he wouldn't be at too much of a disadvantage in a fight. He could also use some attack methods freely.

After thanking him, Rayn left half of the mission reward and took Kanna to the request board.

Makarov shook his head behind them and said no more.

"There don't seem to be any fun missions here," Rayn muttered, standing in front of the request wall with his arms crossed.

Besides some daily missions in Magnolia Town and some C-rank and above missions he couldn't take, the remaining missions either had low rewards or took too long and were too far away. The cost-effectiveness was too low.

In fact, the mission in Oak Village was also very cost-ineffective. But he had taken that mission out of personal feelings, so there was no need to care about cost-effectiveness.

His gaze turned to Kanna.

"How about you, Kanna?"

"Nothing," the little girl with the expressionless face said, looking up at the request board. She then turned to look at him and shook her head.

"Then let's take a break tomorrow and find something good to eat!" After several days of running around, although his body could still take it, his spirit was inevitably a little tired. Since there were no suitable missions now, he would take a few days off. He would also spend some time learning Giant Magic and try to use it proficiently in the next mission.

"Whoa!" Kanna's sky-blue eyes lit up, and she raised her hands and cheered. Then she ran over and took Rayn's hand and walked outside.

"Isn't it tomorrow?" Rayn was confused, even thinking he had misspoken. But seeing the excited Kanna, he didn't stop her.

"Well, whatever."

Under Kanna's pull, Rayn said goodbye to Carolin and the others and left the guild.

"That kid is amazing. Where did you find him?" Gildarts asked, walking to the bar with two glasses of wine and sitting down. He handed a glass to Makarov and smiled meaningfully.

He could feel the little girl's condition. He didn't think Makarov couldn't feel it.

"That's up to him to decide in the future." Makarov naturally knew what this guy wanted to say, but that was Rayn's business, and he wouldn't say anything casually. He took the glass and drank it all in one gulp.

"Is that so? Then that's fine." After taking a big gulp, Gildarts casually wiped the wine from the corner of his mouth. Since the master had chosen to believe, he had nothing more to say. He could only suppress his curiosity.

"By the way, how was your mission this time?" Makarov asked, putting down his glass. The glass was originally full, but now it was only half full. He glanced at Gildarts.

"I'm Gildarts, of course I solved it perfectly," Gildarts said with a hearty smile, pointing a thumb at himself proudly.

"It's just that after completing the mission, I met a beautiful girl in trouble and had to spend some time helping her solve the problem."

Then he explained why he had returned so late.

"That girl was very gentle, but..."

"Stop, I don't want to hear about this," Makarov said, rolling his eyes and raising his hand to signal him to stop. He really didn't want to hear about this guy's romantic affairs.

"You'll get into trouble sooner or later if you keep this up. If a kid shows up at the guild, I'd like to see what you do."

He was strong, but he had this personality. It was really hard to feel at ease handing the guild over to him. Fortunately, there was Rayn now. That kid seemed steady and didn't like to cause trouble. When he grew up, he would be a qualified guild master.

Hmm...

When Rayn explained the mission, he only briefly mentioned the battle. After all, a battle of that level was too trivial in front of Makarov, and there was no need to waste time describing it. And Makarov did think so, so he didn't ask. Laxus, on the other hand, didn't say anything because he wanted to see a good show.

All of this led to Makarov's current misunderstanding.

"Hahaha!" Gildarts laughed heartily. But thinking about how he had never used protection during his passionate encounters with those girls, it seemed not entirely impossible.

"No way, no way," he thought, feeling a chill run down his spine. He comforted himself, saying repeatedly.

He was still young and didn't want to be tied down by a woman. Gildarts picked up his glass and drank it all in one gulp, but his eyes were a little unfocused compared to before.
