Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: They Are All Monsters!

On the plains west of Magnolia.

"You should know the difference between types of magic, right?" Makarov asked, sitting cross-legged on a rock, looking at Rayn and Kanna who stood opposite him.

"Yes, Holder Type and Caster Type," Rayn nodded, responding quickly.

"That's right. Holder Type magic requires a specific item as a medium to be used," Makarov explained, his gaze turning a little strange as he looked at Rayn. "Your Summoning Magic should have been in this category."

He had never seen such a strange magic before. It didn't quite fit as Holder Type, nor did it fit as Caster Type. He didn't know how to classify it at all.

"Never mind, you're full of strange things anyway," Makarov quickly shook his head, not dwelling on it. Magic was inherently strange and varied; how could it be perfectly categorized?

"Caster Type is magic activated directly from one's own body or spirit."

"The Giant Magic I've mastered belongs to this category, and because its power is considerable, it's very difficult and even dangerous to train," Makarov said, looking at Rayn with a serious expression.

"I'll work hard!" Rayn's expression was earnest, and he spoke without hesitation.

He had already considered this possibility when he thought of asking to learn Giant Magic. In the original story, to highlight Natsu and the others, Makarov didn't appear often, which made Giant Magic seem not particularly strong. But on Tenrou Island, when facing Acnologia, a full-powered Makarov had enhanced his body to be as tall as a mountain peak.

This showed that although this magic didn't have a fancy name like 'Lost Magic,' its power was by no means weak. Naturally, mastering it wouldn't be simple.

"Giant Magic works by channeling your magic to enlarge your flesh and blood, so you need absolute control over your magic and your body," Makarov said, holding up his index finger. Magic flowed through it, and the finger suddenly grew larger and smaller.

"If you're too hasty and infuse too much magic, blood will spurt out." As he spoke, the raised finger became unstable, its surface rapidly pulsing as if about to burst.

"In severe cases, your flesh and blood could even explode, so you must not rush, understand?"

The finger's pulsing calmed, and Makarov warned him once more.

"Yes!" Rayn replied with a deep voice.

In his heart, however, he was amazed at Makarov's ultimate control over his magic. He knew the master was strong, of course, but this was the first time he had seen him use magic in such a way. It showed just how strong his control was. Compared to Gildarts's unstable state, they were complete opposites, though Makarov was also much older.

"Giant Magic..."

Makarov didn't say much more and began to explain the structure of Giant Magic.

As they spoke, Kanna's eyes flickered. She looked down at her small hand, and magic began to flow. With a faint glow, her chubby little hand gradually became long, slender, and fair, like that of an adult woman.

A hint of emotion appeared on her expressionless face, and her bright eyes looked at Rayn, who had turned to look at her due to the magic consumption.

"Rayn, Rayn, look at my hand!" Kanna waved her right hand, which was completely out of proportion to her body. She stood on her tiptoes, wanting to place her hand on Rayn's head and stroke it. Rayn had always patted her head before; now it was her turn to pat his.

"..."

Rayn and Makarov were momentarily silent, looking at the scene before them. The one who was supposed to be learning hadn't even started, yet the one who was just listening had already mastered it.

"What's so surprising? She's a ten-thousand-year-old dragon. After understanding the principle, it's not difficult for her to use this kind of magic," Ddraig's nonchalant voice sounded in his mind, explaining it for Rayn.

"Is that so... because she's a dragon," Rayn thought to himself, quickly accepting this explanation. But then another thought occurred to him.

"But if Kanna returns to her original form and then uses Giant Magic, will she become huge?"

Kanna's size was already enormous among humans. If she used Giant Magic on top of that, she might become bigger than a mountain peak.

"And when my bond with Kanna reaches its peak, she won't consume my magic in this world anymore."

"Using her own magic at full power then...

Perhaps she couldn't compare to the world-carrying dragon from the Little Garden for now, but becoming a planet-carrying giant dragon wouldn't be bad either. Rayn's eyes flickered. Thinking of that scene, he couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. This Giant Magic seemed to be more useful than he thought.

"Ahem, let's continue," Makarov said, silently looking away and turning to Rayn. After all, she was a dragon; perhaps she had abilities he didn't understand. However, he still felt a blow from his signature magic being learned so easily.

"Kanna, don't play for too long. My magic can't handle the consumption," Rayn said to Kanna, then continued to listen intently.

After playing for a while and seeing that Rayn was listening seriously, Kanna dispelled the magic. She ran to the side and stared at a flower, her small body swaying with the flower.

"Alright, that's basically Giant Magic. What you need to do now is to master your magic."

Without Kanna's blow, Makarov quickly explained the key points of Giant Magic and then gave Rayn his first goal.

"The first goal is to giantify your finger."

"Like this?" the boy's slightly hesitant voice sounded, making Makarov look over in astonishment.

He saw Rayn's strange expression. His raised index finger was now in a giantified state, and there were no bumps on the surface that would appear from uneven magic maintenance.

"???" Makarov's eyes widened, his mind full of question marks.

He could accept Kanna being a dragon. But why could Rayn also learn it in an instant? It was a good thing for a guild member to have good talent, but this was a bit too monstrous, wasn't it?

He remembered being a rare genius in the guild back then. To learn this magic, he had spent countless efforts and time. He didn't even know anyone who knew it, so his body had even become like this. And now Rayn had learned it just by listening to his explanation?

Even with Makarov's broad-mindedness, he couldn't help but feel a tightness in his chest at this moment.

His gaze shifted between the boy in front of him and the little girl. No wonder this one person and one dragon could get along so well. They were both monsters!
