Chapter 4 - Chapter 4:Why was I staring

I don't even know how long I stood there.

Just... staring.

At him.

The new guy. Marco.

He wasn't just good-looking - no, that would've been fine. But it was those eyes. They had secrets. Like he'd lived a thousand lives or maybe just hid a thousand things. I couldn't tell.

But I didn't stop looking.

"Suzie," Elena's voice snapped me out of my statue mode. "Hellooo?"

"Huh? Yeah?" I blinked.

She rolled her eyes. "Meet Marco. Marco. Suzie. She's harmless.'

Hi." I said, instantly regretting the weird way my voice came out. Was that a squeak?

"Hi.," he replied, low and calm.

We stared again.

Why were we staring?!

Thank god Elena saved me with a joke. Something about lovebirds. I barely heard it because I was still trying to remember how to breathe.

This is not me. I don't freeze. I don't stare. I don't forget my own name in front of boys with jawlines like that.

"Alright!" Lina clapped, her curls bouncing. "Let's start this picnic, people!"

Saved by snacks.

Everyone picked up their stuff, and we walked toward the trees where the picnic

was set. I walked beside Sarah, who smirked at me without saying a word.

I elbowed her. "Don't."

She smirked harder.

Great. This is how rumors are born.
