Chapter 5 - Puppy Love 1

I find a clinic not too far from my apartment and get registered there for my prenatal check-ups. The doctor said that my baby was fine and healthy and so was I. He also said that I should keep up the good work and that I should avoid stressing myself out because it wouldn't be good for either me or the baby. He also booked appointments for my regular checkups and advised me to stick to them.

After a few days of searching for work, I finally found one at a private high school's library. I was to start work the following week. I feel happy and relieved to have finally found a job to keep me and my baby afloat. The pay was good, enough to take care of my little angel and me. I needed to start saving money to buy things that my baby would need. I want to be fully prepared and ready when I give birth to my baby boy.

The weekend goes by in a flash, giving birth to a new week. My phone alarm goes off at 7:00 a.m. School starts by 8:45 a.m. and I don't want to be late, especially not on my first day of work. I stretch out my hands towards the bedside table and turn off the alarm. I take a deep breath and smile to myself.

"Thank you, Jesus, for this brand new day."

I say a short prayer and head to the bathroom to freshen up. After brushing my teeth and taking a shower, I pick out an outfit that portrays modesty and elegance. A long white pleated skirt, a white long-sleeved shirt with a chic black, white, and pink checked pattern vest, and black ankle-length sneakers. I tie up my afro with a pink bow tie, some loose strands resting at the edges of my face. Satisfied with the way I look, I smile before heading to the kitchen to eat breakfast. The school provided lunch for all staff, so I didn't need to bother about making a lunchbox for myself.

After eating my breakfast, I grab my phone and purse quickly leaving my apartment heading to the bus station. I board a bus that leaves at 7:45 a.m. At exactly 7:45 a.m. the bus leaves, picking up and dropping up passengers on the way. The distance of the school from my apartment is a 30-minute drive by bus ride. It's also very convenient and cheap for me. The bus makes another stop, the last one before it reaches my destination.

Suddenly, a guy in a high school uniform walks up to me. He might be in high school but man his features are way out of this world. He looks like a guy straight out of a webtoon but more realistic. He had brown hair that didn't look natural, probably he dyed it. He had green eyes with a slight touch of yellow which instantly made me think of sunflowers. He had this Asian look but also didn't look completely Asian. He's dressed neatly in his school uniform. His uniform was neat and tidy except he wasn't wearing a tie. Maybe he's school doesn't wear one, though I kinda doubt that. He most likely didn't wear it. And just to be clear, I did not just fall for him. I just fangirled him for a moment.

Anyways, he approaches me, now standing right in front of me. I look up at him still seated on my chair. He just stands there for a while without saying anything, avoiding eye contact with me. For a moment, I'm confused by this and quickly put up my guard, being cautious. He finally looks at me, his cheeks slightly pink. I blink a few times to make sure I'm not seeing things.

"H-hi... You're pretty..." The guy says, barely above a whisper. His voice is really soft and smooth.

I stare at him stunned and dumbfounded. "Eh...?"

His cheeks flush a deeper shade of red absolutely out of embarrassment. "I-I'm sorry... This is the first time I'm doing this kind of thing... My body kinda just moved on its own and that's how I got here... now I'm just rambling..." He scratches the back of his neck and bows hiding his flushed face from me. "Sorry for disturbing you, Miss..."

Immediately the bus comes to a halt, and the guy runs out of the bus into the street, disappearing out of my sight. I also alight the bus and walk towards the school, shaking my head very amused. Wow, kids these days are really bold. That scene that just unfolded on the bus was quite something.

Once I'm inside the school building, I stop in my tracks for a moment to look around the school premises. The school is huge and prestigious-looking. It looks like the type of school that children of rich people go to. The premises are decorated with flowers at all the right places. The floors are sparkling clean. Students within the age range of 14 to 18 are walking into school, some of them being dropped off by their drivers, some driving themselves to school while a few others walk to school.

I spot the school's principal standing in front of the administrative department building. I walk up to her and greet her with a smile.

"Good morning, Mrs. Smith," I say warmly, happiness radiating off my face.

She smiles back at me. "Good morning, Miss Ozumba. Welcome to our esteemed school." She chuckles softly. "You look hyped up for your first day, Miss Ozumba. That's good." She turns towards the building. "Follow me. I'll introduce you to the other staff and show you to the library."

"Yes, Ma'am." I follow her into the building.

The principal leads me into the building and up the stairs– my worst enemy. Once up the stairs, we walk into the staffroom on the left. She introduces me to all the teachers as the new librarian. A few students are in the staffroom witnessing this. They all marvel at my beauty. The guys drool while some of the girls look at me with envy and jealousy. I shake my head smiling to myself. Kids. After introducing me to the staff, she guides me to the library. She says and few more things before leaving, going back to her office.

During lunch, some students come running into the library. A boy in particular catches my eye. It's the guy who approached me on the bus! He's standing in front of the library's door with another guy probably his friend. He's panting, trying to catch his breath. He looks up, his eyes scanning the library. His eyes land on me and our gaze locks.
