Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE - CHAPTER 1 : THE SACRED-BORN

Prologue: The Moon Remembers

"Have you ever touched moonlight?"

The voice was a whisper in the dark, low and intimate, like silk dragged across bare skin. Her breath brushed the hollow of his throat as she leaned closer. He felt her fingers slowly trail down his chest.

"No," he rasped, his pulse racing. "What would it feel like?"

She smiled, then pecked his jaw. "Like her."

"Who?"

"Lunaria."

He stilled beneath her. The name tasted ancient. Like something… Forbidden.

"The first Sacred-Born?"

She nodded. "Born of divinity and desire. Before wolves ever knew the moon as Mother, Lunaria walked the earth, wrapped in silver light and clothed in power."

"They say she seduced kings. That she could command the beast with a kiss."

"Command them?" She chuckled darkly. "No. She awakened them. With a glance, a sigh, a single moan... the fiercest Alphas crumbled beneath her. Not from weakness but because she knew what they needed before they did."

He swallowed hard, already imagining her.

"They worshipped her?"

"They feared her love more than her wrath."

"Why?"

"Because she made them feel things they'd never felt. Longing. Hunger. Lust. Helplessness. Weaknesses. She stripped them of control. And for men who ruled beasts, nothing was more terrifying."

She moved again, straddling him now. Her fingers interlocked with his. "So they bound her."

His eyes widened. "She was betrayed?"

"By the one who claimed to love her." Her voice cracked, just slightly. "They shattered her body in a blood-ritual so brutal, the stars wept. But her soul..."

"It survived," he murmured.

"It refused to die."

She leaned closer, her lips now brushing against his ear. "Reincarnation was her curse... and her revenge. Every few centuries, she returns."

The lady paused and took a breath.

"She's waking again."

His breath caught. "How do you know?"

She smiled wickedly, pressing his hand to her heart. "Because I burn. Every night. For something I can't name. And when I look at you..."

Her lips claimed his in a kiss filled with ancient hunger.

"I remember."

The man's figure began to crumble slowly into dust.

"Wh...what's happening to me?" he panicked, trying to hold on to her. But his hands passed through her like smoke.

She was fading too.

"It's almost time…" she whispered, her voice calm despite the grief in her eyes.

"This isn't real," he gasped, shaking his head, "It can't be…"

"It always feels real," she murmured. "Until it ends."

His gaze locked with hers, desperate, pleading. "Have we… done this before?"

She nodded slowly. "A thousand times."

His lips trembled. "Then why don't I remember?"

"Because love doesn't protect us," she said. "It curses us."

"Who are you to me?" His voice broke.

She cupped his cheek as his skin began to fade. "The one who was once your mate. Your obsession. Your betrayal."

A tear rolled down her fading cheek. "And I loved you even as you destroyed me."

"No," he choked. "I wouldn't…"

"You did," she whispered. "You always do."

The world around them began to fracture. Moonlight cracking like glass.

"But this time," she said softly, her voice the last thing he heard, "I won't forget."

Darkness took them both.

And far away….

In a cold bed, a woman shot awake with a scream caught in her throat, the taste of a man's kiss still on her lips.

In another surrounding, a man sat bolt upright, his chest heaving, haunted by the sound of a name he didn't know… yet.

The cycle had begun again.

Reincarnation was calling them.

Love.

Betrayal. Destiny.

And this time, something was different.

This time, someone would remember too soon.

CHAPTER 1: THE SACRED-BORN

Selene's POV

"Ahh, fuck yes.." I moaned as my tongue linked with his. "Don't stop…"

He pulled away, then smiled. He kissed my hard nipples, then placed his finger on the surface of my vagina, slightly rubbing it.

"Urgh, yes…" I held his head in place as he sucked my breasts.

There was something about him… this stranger I'd never seen and yet knew too well. My body recognized him. Like it had waited lifetimes just to feel him again.

I could feel my orgasm about to hit….

"Yes, yes…" I moaned, my voice getting louder.

Then suddenly, the man dissolved into dust.

No… no…no...

Not again…

Why did it always end like this?

Just then the darkness caved in, and my eyes shot open.

I gasped, trying to catch my breath.

"Ah goddess," I groaned, staring at the ceiling. "I'm so damn frustrated. At this point, try sending me a man, even if it means Mother Ravin finding out."

I said it louder than I should've, but I didn't care. The ache between my thighs wasn't just physical anymore. It was something deeper. Older.

I placed a finger over my panties, then started rubbing it.

"Urgh…" I moaned softly, responding to the tingly feeling that surged through me.

I pulled off my pants and stared at my wet vagina.

Maybe… maybe I could do it this once.

I stretched my fingers towards it. I put a finger inside, then…

"SELENE!!!"

I quickly withdrew my hands and covered my body, heart slamming against my ribs.

I didn't have to look. I could already feel her cold stern presence.

"What is the meaning of that?" Mother Ravin demanded as she stepped into the room.

She raised her hand, and the door slammed shut behind her.

I clenched my jaw and kept my eyes on the wall. I couldn't face her.

Not when I was burning with the ghost of a man I couldn't stop dreaming about.

Not when I knew that somehow… she already knew everything.

Mother Ravin's heels echoed against the stone floor as she walked closer. I still couldn't look at her.

"How many times," she said coldly, "have I warned you, Selene?"

Silence.

The tone of her voice dropped, making her words heavy and sharp. "How many times have I told you to stop all sexual activities…especially touching yourself?"

I clenched the sheets tighter, heat rising to my cheeks, not from shame, but from fury.

From frustration. From never being allowed to feel. Never being allowed to want.

She sighed, the sound laced with disappointment. "Do you even understand what you are? What lies dormant inside you? Every orgasm you chase, every dream you indulge... it awakens more than desire."

I looked up then, my eyes meeting hers.

"I'm not a child," I snapped. "I'm tired of pretending like I don't feel things. Like this burning inside me means nothing."

Mother Ravin's eyes darkened. "That burning is the curse. The same one that destroyed empires and bled gods. The same one that made Lunaria fall."

Urgh ga ccLunaria. Again.

Always her.

"And what if she didn't fall?" I whispered. "What if she's just waiting to rise again?"

Mother Ravin stepped back slightly, her expression unreadable.

"You are not ready for the weight of that truth," she said quietly. "And until you are, you will remain under my watch."

Her fingers flicked in the air, and just like that, the room dimmed. The warmth in my body started to fade. Like someone had taken the sun and locked it behind ice.

I swayed slightly, trying to resist the spell tugging at my limbs.

"Sleep, Selene," she murmured. "While you still can."

But then she paused… and sighed.

"No," she said sharply, her voice slicing through the haze in my head. "Get up."

I blinked, confusion curling at the edge of my lashes. "What?"

"We're braiding your hair," she said, already turning toward the basin. "It's the full moon tonight. You might not act like it, but you're still one of us. And I won't have you looking like a wildling in front of the goddess."

I opened my mouth, but no sound came out.

I wanted to kick Mother Ravin in her face and refuse.

But I stood anyway.

Because when Mother Ravin called… you didn't disobey.

Not unless you were ready to pay the price.

Mother Ravin's fingers moved through my hair in silence. Each stroke was precise and controlled.

It was her way of reminding me who held the power here. Of who still owned the parts of me I hadn't claimed yet.

I hated how small I felt in moments like this. Like no matter how old I got, I'd always be some cursed child under her thumb.

Finally when she was done, she handed me my cloak and said, "Come."

We stepped outside together. The cold wind slapped me in the face.

Of course, I have to leave my comfort zone because of some wannabe ritual…

I kept my head low as we moved through the grounds. Some of the other Witchborns were already up chanting, laughing, whispering things I couldn't hear.

A few were wrapped around each other by the fires. Hands on skin. Mouths against mouths. Some of them didn't care who watched. They never did.

And no one told them to stop.

No one said it was wrong.

It was allowed because here, we didn't need men. That's what we were taught. That was the whole point of this place. Of us.

We were power. We were enough.

But that wasn't how it felt.

Not when the heat from my dream still clung to me. Not when the memory of his touch still made my skin ache. Not when every step I took felt like walking away from something I hadn't even found yet.

I wrapped my arms tighter around myself.

"Move, Selene…" Mother Ravin commanded with a firm voice.

Mother Ravin didn't slow down. She never did.

And me?

I kept following her… pretending I wasn't breaking more and more with every breath.
