Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: The Incredible Hulk!

Betty drove for a full ten kilometers before stopping.

"What's wrong, Betty?"

Saitama was a little curious. Just now, he had been wondering what that poodle might taste like—if not for the stench, maybe he could have considered dog meat hotpot for dinner.

But with that smell… probably not worth it.

"David Banner is definitely insane! I suspect he's using gamma radiation nanotechnology for biological experiments. Otherwise, how else would he have a pet of that size?"

Betty was still shaken. As a biologist, she was far from stupid—she could clearly see something suspicious going on.

"You're hurt."

Saitama didn't really care about those things. For him, it was all just a one-punch problem. But he noticed that in her frantic escape, Betty's outer thigh had been cut by something, and blood was soaking through.

"Maybe it was a rusty nail, maybe something else, but it should be treated. Otherwise, it could be trouble."

Muttering to himself, Saitama—being a professional hero—naturally knew basic first aid.

Betty had wanted to refuse, but after the panic, she realized the pain in her leg was pretty bad. She had no choice but to accept his help.

Her cheeks turned red—it was the first time she'd let a strange man touch her, and in a sensitive spot at that.

"Thank you… Saitama."

Her voice was barely above a whisper. After the quick treatment, Betty looked at him with an expression she couldn't quite place.

She shook her head lightly. What was she thinking?

"The lab is sealed off. Let's go to my place. I want to run a few basic tests on you. Don't worry, no blood draws or anything."

Betty spoke a little shyly. She was still extremely curious about Saitama, and the poodle's unusual reaction only added to her questions.

Since it was like a vacation here, Saitama didn't mind and agreed.

In a slum on the outskirts of town, the sky was growing darker. After some thought, David Banner picked up the phone and called his son, Bruce Banner.

Clearly, Bruce had realized he might have inherited some of his father's unstable genes—especially after the man had experimented on him with nanotechnology, producing strange substances.

During his time in confinement, memories of the lab incident began to return. He… really might lose control and turn into a monster when angry.

"What the hell did you give me!" Bruce's breathing grew heavy.

"My child, you and Betty always wanted to destroy it—but can you destroy yourself? I've already sent my loyal pet to visit her. Oh, I forgot to mention—your precious Betty seems to be spending the night with that young man called Saitama. Alone. Just the two of them. What do you think might happen?"

"No! You're insane! I won't allow it! Betty! Saitama!!"

Bruce roared, gritting his teeth. It felt like his blood was boiling. The thought of Betty with Saitama was like pouring gasoline on his anger.

BANG—

The phone was crushed to pieces in his hand. His veins bulged as if his body were a bomb about to go off.

Slamming the door open, Bruce was determined to either save Betty or see for himself if his deranged father's words were true. Either way, he had to get out!

"Get back in there! You went behind my back to work with Ross against me!"

Before Bruce could leave the confinement area, a blond man strode in with a cold expression. He slammed Bruce to the ground and pinned his head down with practiced ease.

Glenn Talbot—an Air Force colonel, assigned specifically to deal with the Hulk threat.

He coveted Bruce's ability to transform into a powerful monster.

"Let me go! Betty's in danger!"

Bruce shouted, but as a scientist, his untransformed combat ability was pitiful. Glenn easily restrained him.

"You freak—what right do you have to threaten me? Sit your ass down and stay here!"

"Glenn! You've made me angry! You're making me angry!"

"Angry? So what? What are you gonna do—"

CRACK CRACK CRACK—RIP—

Before Glenn's horrified eyes, Bruce's skin turned green. His body expanded rapidly, muscles exploding through his clothes.

In just seconds, the frail scientist had transformed into a massive, rage-fueled monster.

With a thunderous blow, Glenn was sent flying, the force smashing part of the roof to pieces.

Several black-suited security agents rushed in from patrol, opening fire with submachine guns—but to their shock, the bullets couldn't pierce Bruce's skin.

The rounds clinked uselessly to the ground.

Meanwhile, at Betty's home, the atmosphere was turning a little… intimate.
