Chapter 497 - Chapter 497

The two people Saitama had goaded into leaving the ship were now appearing here in Star City.

Because the way they were dressed was so out of place, they were very quickly picked up by the "brain" of Team Arrow—their IT girl, Felicity.

She immediately radioed Green Arrow.

"Calling Green Arrow! Unknown individuals spotted on Long Street! One is carrying a liquid-nitrogen rifle, the other a flamethrower! Based on their appearance and gear… uh, they match the description of escapees from Iron Heights Prison in Central City!"

As she relayed the intel to the rest of the team, she couldn't help adding anxiously,

"Oh my god, how did people from Central City end up over here in our city?! Should we call Barry over from Central City?"

Right then, Green Arrow was riding his motorcycle back toward the base. While he drove, he tried to calm her down.

"Relax. It's just two small-time crooks. I'll handle it."

A short while later…

Green Arrow appeared before Captain Cold—Snart—and Heat Wave, Mick.

"You two from Central City… what are you doing in my city?"

His voice was still as hoarse and deep as ever.

But among super-powered types, most of them had at least heard of one another's identities.

Especially someone as well-informed as Snart. He immediately called Green Arrow out.

"I mean, Oliver, since you know we're from Central City, don't stand in my way. Otherwise, I'll let you have a taste of my cold gun."

Heat Wave snorted,

"I don't mind turning you into roast pig either."

Everyone watching from the Waverider was left speechless.

Rip paced back and forth in front of the central holo-console.

"Oh come on, what is this? Are we really about to see Captain Cold and Heat Wave versus Green Arrow?!"

"Because this is not how the script of this timeline is supposed to go!"

Back in Star City—

The quick-thinking Snart directly sent Heat Wave toward their actual destination, then stayed behind himself to fight Oliver one-on-one.

On the Waverider, the golden-haired, brown-eyed beauty watched her friend in Star City fighting Snart. Sara's eyes flickered; no one knew what she was thinking.

"Captain Cold, Snart—I know your weakness. If you stop now, there's still time to walk away," Green Arrow said after a brief exchange.

"Sorry," Captain Cold replied, "but I know your weakness too."

Biu, biu!

Taking cover behind some obstacles, Captain Cold leaned out and sprayed ice blasts wildly at Green Arrow.

"Then don't blame me for what happens next!"

Oliver was just about to counterattack when he suddenly realized he'd walked right into a trap.

During their earlier close-quarters clash, Captain Cold had already quietly spilled liquid nitrogen into several corners on the ground.

So the next time Oliver charged back in, he found himself surrounded on all sides by that frigid nitrogen.

"Damn it…"

He had no choice but to fire an arrow straight up into the sky, using the cable to yank himself out of the danger zone and pull away from the advancing cold.

By the time he swung back down to the battlefield, Captain Cold, Snart, was already gone without a trace.

"Hah… this is so infuriating…"

Oliver was just about to contact Felicity when her voice suddenly came through his earpiece.

"Um… there's something I'm not sure if I should say or not."

"Say it," he answered.

"I don't think Captain Cold and Heat Wave came to Star City just to cause trouble. The place they're heading to is Damien's building.

"But… it's also possible Damien already recruited them."

Oliver stood in the cold wind, momentarily unsure how to respond.

Elsewhere—

At Damien's building.

Heat Wave had just arrived and immediately knocked out the building's main power.

As a veteran criminal, he knew that any high-end, fully integrated building was guaranteed to have backup power.

He smashed the main supply first so the people inside would be forced to switch to their emergency systems—just to send them a message:

Daddy's here. Daddy's here to rob you. You'd better hurry up and run.

Whoosh!

Heat Wave strode into the building, waving his flamethrower around and spraying fire everywhere.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—

In an instant, the entire building was engulfed in a field of flames.

At that moment, a middle-aged man with a buzz cut, dressed in a suit but with silver-white hair, walked out.

"I've gotta ask, brother—oh, I mean, friend. You walk into my building and immediately start spraying fire everywhere. Don't you think that's just a tiny bit disrespectful?"

Heat Wave's face twisted with hostility.

"And who are you supposed to be? Planning to stop me?"

As he spoke, Mick had already pulled the trigger and sent ten roaring blasts of flame straight at the man.

Once Heat Wave got into the zone, this was how he fought—pure violence.

Anyone who tried to stop him… died.

But this time, he'd met his match.

This man was Damien.

When the blasts of flame closed in on him, they suddenly shrank into little flickering tongues of fire.

Damien glanced lazily at the tiny flames, then blew on them with a gentle puff.

They went out instantly.

"Friend, if that's all you've got, maybe don't embarrass yourself by coming here."

Heat Wave grunted.

"I was just showing you mercy."

"Then by all means," Damien said, "try again."

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

Heat Wave unleashed three more torrents of flame, but the result was exactly the same each time.

Whenever they reached Damien, they shrank down into little candles.

"Damn it, this gun is busted!"

"It's not your gun," Damien said smoothly. "It's your attacks. They don't work on me."

"Well then… how about my attack?"

There was a swift, sharp sound—

Two spikes of ice suddenly jutted out from Damien's abdomen.

Captain Cold had slipped in behind him without a sound and launched a surprise strike from the rear.

These two criminals from Central City had just shown off what real teamwork looked like.

"Ah… I… actually got taken by surprise? Am I going to die now? Could you two call me a doctor?" Damien exclaimed, staring at the ice spikes in mock shock and agony.

But the moment the two partners' faces lit up in triumph, his expression suddenly turned serious.

"You two insects really think an attack like that can hurt me?"

In a flash, Damien's eyes flared with silver light. His whole body entered a sorcerer's state as an invisible force slammed both men back into a wall and pinned them there, grinding them hard against the concrete.

"Hngh—Snart, I can barely breathe…"

"Don't talk, Mick. Just hang on!"

Only now did the two brothers realize they'd fallen for Saitama's provocation—and how badly they had underestimated Damien's strength.

"Damn it… never thought this guy would be this strong…"

As they teetered on the brink of suffocation, their survival instincts suddenly roared to life, and a desperate hope surfaced in both their hearts.

"God… can somebody please save us?"

And right then—

A man in a beige coat and a red cape appeared quietly on the scene.

Saitama had stepped onto the stage once more.
