Chapter 688 - Chapter 688

"Leave the big one to me!" Before Saitama even finished speaking, he was already flying out like a cannonball, charging straight at the Dark Lord head-on.

The Dark Lord roared, and its battle axe came crashing down with the weight of a mountain. Saitama didn't dodge at first—only when the blade was nearly upon him did he shift with a hair's breadth, sliding aside in a tight sidestep.

Boom!

The axe slammed into empty air and carved into the ground, ripping open a deep trench as dark energy sprayed outward.

Saitama seized the split-second gap as the Dark Lord tried to pull its axe back. He snapped a fast uppercut into its wrist.

Crack!

A clean, unmistakable sound of bone splitting rang out. The Dark Lord howled in pain, the battle axe nearly slipping from its grip. But it was vicious—its other claw immediately swept across in a brutal counter.

Behind the front line, Doctor Strange hovered slightly to the rear, his hands constantly drawing golden rings in the air. The Seraphim Shield appeared in time in front of Spider-Man and Hawkeye, blocking a surprise energy shot. Bolts of Balthakk lashed out like a whip, electrocuting entire clusters of small monsters into charcoal.

At the same time, Strange continuously scanned the dark creatures with his magic senses, trying to identify a shared energy node—or a weakness.

Spider-Man swung between pillars and wrecked subway cars, using webs to yank, disrupt, and split the enemy formation—pinning isolated monsters or flinging them into his teammates' kill zones. Hawkeye took the high ground, firing explosive arrows, sonic arrows, and shock arrows with pinpoint precision to eliminate enemies attempting ranged attacks or carrying special abilities.

Captain America was the bedrock of the formation. Like an unmovable rock, he held the front, shield up—blocking, striking, and countering with fists and kicks—keeping the monsters from breaking through and protecting the more vulnerable mage and archer behind him.

In the chaos of battle, the clash between Saitama and the Dark Lord became the focal point. Saitama didn't rush to end it with a single punch. Instead, he kept dodging, blocking, and probing with controlled attacks.

And through those exchanges, he noticed something.

Whether it was this powerful Dark Lord, or the smaller monsters, their attack patterns and energy flow all seemed to point toward a single core point inside their bodies—where a deep, sunken darkness faintly flickered, like a light that wasn't light at all.

"Doc!" Saitama called out after a crossing exchange. "They've got this black energy ball inside them! Try hitting that!"

Doctor Strange immediately focused his senses. "Yes!" he confirmed quickly. "That's their energy core—the source of their life. Destroy the core, and they collapse!"

With the weakness found, the battle flipped instantly.

Spider-Man's webs began firing directly toward the monsters' core points, then jerking hard to tear them off-balance. Hawkeye's arrows now had a clear target. Captain America's shield throws became even cleaner and more lethal.

And Saitama—facing the Dark Lord's renewed roar and charge—smiled slightly.

No more holding back.

His fist pierced the hastily condensed dark shield and landed with perfect precision on the violently throbbing black energy sphere in the center of its chest.

"…Pshhk!"

There was no earth-shattering explosion.

The sphere simply burst—like a festering sac being punctured—shattering in eerie silence.

The Dark Lord's massive body went rigid. Then, starting from the point of impact, it rapidly crumbled—breaking down into its most primitive black dust before dispersing completely into nothing.

In the subway concourse, the last grotesque dark creature was erased when Saitama casually swung his arm. It burst into void, and the sticky black blood it should have sprayed was evaporated by the punch wind before it could even hit the ground.

With the Dark Lord utterly destroyed, the remaining monsters—who had still carried a faint sense of coordination—immediately fell into total chaos. They shrieked and crashed around like headless flies, but could no longer form any effective resistance.
