"Student Ha-Joon, can you please rethink your decision?" The school's registrar asked, looking worried.
I sat across from him in his office.
I just submitted my military leave of absence, and the registrar, who saw that I was applying for the Air Force and not the Army, overreacted.
"If it's the Air Force then you'll be spending 2 months away." He said. "Do you really want to serve for that long and leave your studies at bay?"
"I..." What do I say? I just need an excuse to be somewhere that wasn't home or school. "...I always wanted to join the Air Force," I said with a straight face.
He looked at me in disbelief and then disappointment and then sympathy, these emotions spiraling on his face in less than a minute.
"I heard about your accident." He said. "You were out for a long time. But instead of focusing on other things, you decided to do your mandatory service? Isn't that too much?"
