Tessa's eyes widened. "W–what… what are they doing there?" she stammered, her voice breaking.
She looked back and forth at all the jewelries. Her mind couldn't keep up with what she was seeing. Those bangles, that necklace, she had never touched them. She had never even gone near them. She hadn't even seen them before. But most importantly, How had they even gotten on her clothes?
"I didn't—" she tried to speak, but the words caught in her throat.
She remembered everything clearly. She had stepped inside the carriage, looked around for a few seconds, and stepped right back out. That was all. Nothing more.
Now, Fiona was holding the jewelry up for everyone to see, acting like she'd just caught a thief.
"I didn't take them!" Tessa said, her voice rising in panic. "I swear I didn't!"
No one moved. No one believed her. The way they stared at her cold, judging, disgusted, made her chest ache.
She had never stolen anything in her life. Not even a coin.
