Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 12: A RITUAL?

The night sky was bright, all were asleep, and the stray dogs run around the streets in search of food and a few of the street lights flickered. Grace stood stunned and shocked as she saw Kelvin stand opposite her with the same expression.

"How long have you been there?" Grace asked.

"Longer than you think," he replied with his feet trembling. He scratched the back of his head and asked what had just happened.

Grace did not answer. Kelvin then asked again, "What the hell was that? First the whole place was a burning building, then you some unlock some speed boats and killed all of those goons in a blink of an eye."

Grace hesitated and couldn't bring herself to answer him. She was trapped, she thought, if she were to go to sleep and Sarah woke up Kelvin would ask Sarah the same question. Thus giving her a bigger problem–

"Hey I'm talking to you Sarah," said Kelvin, his voice tense he continued, " why was the place a burning building for a second, who was that, why did they call you Grace and since when were you able to move like that?"

Grace was in a dilemma; it was either she should tell him or dispose of him. But the second choice wasn't much an option since Sarah would be devastated.

Taking a deep breath she said, "Come with me and I'll tell you everything."

The two sat down on Sarah's bed. Kelvin stared at Grace for a short while before she began to explain things to him.

"My name is Grace, Grace Umi," she began," and I'm an entit–"

"Excuse me?" Kelvin interrupted, "What do you mean by ' my name is Grace'?"

"You cut me short before I could finish," she replied," Sarah was part of an experiment; an experiment which focused on bringing souls from the other side back to the world. I am an entity which was taken out of the afterlife and Sarah is my host."

" That's crap," Kelvin debated, "Sarah told me that her sister and cousin were left in an orphanage while they were so young."

" Yes, she was at an orphanage but that was after we made our escape. The place was like heaven at first: good food, good education, kind people but that was all a lie. Every after three months five groups consisting of three kids would be taken for ritual: a host, a medium and a sacrifice." She then turn to the window and gazed at the night sky and asked, "how do you go about with a ritual?"

" What?"

" What things are conducted when doing a ritual?"

" Well," Kelvin scratched the back of his head before answering, "in most traditions you would have to have sacrifice, there should be a person to intercede, then a reason."

" You're close," she then pull her hair gently as she continued to explain, "a sacrifice is used to show faith, a medium is used to intercede, while a host used as a vessel. Sarah is a host, Samantha is a medium while Sarah's cousin, Susan, is a sacrifice."

" Okay I get that part but how did they escape?"

" Sarah and a friend of hers by the name Mai, made a plan on how to escape the facility. But that was when the tables were turned. Sarah and Mai were selected for the ritual. The two were labelled as hosts and therefore entities took possession of them."

" What happened after that?"

She hesitated before answering, "I've told you enough now go and whatever you do not tell Sarah what had just happened or else I'll kill you."

There was a short moment of silence after Grace gave off the threat. Kelvin flinched a little while leaning back. Eventually Kelvin left the room and returned to his own but as he went he was uneasy; the thought that the friend he has had throughout most his life was an experiment and was used in a ritual. But among all those what bothered him the most was Grace not telling him what happened to Sarah after the ritual was done.

He then thought, if Grace doesn't bother to tell him what Happened to Sarah during the ritual then he'll find out for himself.

It was the next morning. Sarah woke up from bed and went downstairs to end up finding Kelvin and Grandma Mwape up and dressed. She also noticed that Kelvin looked a little uneasy as she walked towards them.

Sarah looked a bit puzzled and asked where the two were heading off to.

"Sarah have you forgotten," said Grandma Mwape, "I have to take your friend to his uncle's home."

"Why?" Asked Sarah.

"Have you already forgotten," Kelvin replied, "both my parents are working abroad. My sister was already at my uncle's which making me the last one to go there. I thought I told."

" Sadly you didn't." Said Sarah.

" Then what do you think me come here."

" I don't know, a sleep over I guess."

" You are a total dumb a*s."

"Take that back you d**k." Sarah snapped.

" Okay come down you two." Grandma Mwape then escorted Kelvin to the car. She then came back and told Sarah what to do and what not do as she was gone.

" Don't worry Grandma I'll be okay." Said Sarah.

" Alright." As Grandma Mwape was about to leave her then told Sarah to visit the police station.

" Apparently they wish to ask you some questions concerning what happened."

" Aright. I'll make sure to do so."

The two drove off and Sarah went to the bathroom to wash her face. She examined herself on the mirror. Her pale white skin, her long dark hair and her blood red eyes were still, in her head, just alright.

She then walked away from the mirror and headed towards the door. But as she did so she felt something off she turned around and to her surprise her reflection stood and was gently pulling its long hair. Sarah didn't even feel the slightly bit scared or puzzled. She instead looked at it with an annoyed look on her face and walked up towards it.

Meanwhile in an old abandoned warehouse, there were five teens sat in a circle. They sat on wooden chair and in their circle was round table where a single photo laid on top of it; a photo of Sarah and written on the bottom was a phrase saying "Mwana wa shetani."
