Chapter 11 - CHAPTER 11: NO CHANGE

Fire burned everywhere, dried blood was on the walls, screams and cries of children echoed throughout the halls. Sarah stood in fear as she looked at herself. She couldn't believe what she was seeing; she couldn't tell if it was all in her head or not. Then a voice suddenly spoke out,

"Do you remember this, do you remember what you did or have you forgotten. How long do you wish to run; how long do you wish to hide from the dark past you left."

"Who are you?" Sarah asked, "what do you want?"

"Damn it, you've forgotten about me?" said the voice in an aggressive tone, "she was right you have forgotten."

Sarah found the voice familiar but couldn't tell who it was.

"Let me jog your memory." Said the voice and immediately Sarah's was pulled back by her leg and fell down to the floor. She looked back and saw, what seemed to be, three children: there skin was rotten, their eyes were lifeless, and their mouths hanged open as if trying to devour her.

There were two boys and one girl. Both wore white clothes that were covered in dirt and blood. The young girl, which was holding on to Sarah's leg, slowly began to crawl up to her. As she crawled, Sarah tried to move her aside but she couldn't. The young then began to strangle her.

Sarah tried to escape her grasp but the young girl was too strong. Then a figure appeared looking down on Sarah. Sarah noticed the figure. It was a girl, she wore a white mask with a smile on it, a green–sleeveless shirt, and shorts. She held a machete in her right hand and was missing two fingers on her left hand.

The girl was crouched down while looking down at Sarah. She then asked in a low voice, "Tell me, do you remember her? She was your friend... All of them were your friends but you slaughtered them all."

Sarah slowly began to run out air, her vision became blurry, her body became weak. The girl in a mask then touched Sarah's forehead with the tip of her machete before saying, "You hurt her and I promised you, I'll do the same so consider this as a blood dept."

Sarah then slowly closed her eyes and fell unconscious. The girl in a mask then raised her machete over Sarah's head and went for the kill. But suddenly Sarah took hold of the girl in a mask's hand. The girl I a mask was dumbfounded; she swore that Sarah had just fell unconscious. Sarah then opened her eyes and that was when the girl realized that it wasn't Sarah anymore.

Sarah's eyes were fire red but the expression on her face was cold. The girl in a mask tried to free her hand but it was no use: Sarah's grip was too strong. Sarah then slowly stood up and the kids who had her pinned down on the ground suddenly vanished.

The girl in a mask was fall of fear: she recognized that who was holding her hand was not Sarah.

"So tell me Grace," said the girl in a mask, "how long has I been since we last met."?

" I would say seven years, Maya." She then let go of Maya's hand and said in chilling voice, "Now tell me, why you are in River city?"

" Simple, I live here." She said in a tense voice.

" How is she doing? After what happened to her sister."

" She understood. She knew the only way to end this cycle is if we destroy its properties it"

" And Sarah," Grace asked," why did try to kill her? I'm pretty sure your only target was supposed to be Samantha. Besides his already dead so why try to kill the mediums?"

Maya then began to look at machete and trail her finger on its edges. Facing her head to Grace she said, "Just forget it. There is no need for me to tell you... So die!"

Maya than charged towards Grace to slash her face. Grace dodged it and quickly stepped back. Maya then jumped up and went for another slash but Grace dogged it as well. It continued like this for some time till Maya grew impatient and stood still for a moment. Grace noticed this and asked her why she had stopped.

"I'm bored that's what," Maya replied," why aren't you not using your gift huh. Unless you're scared of killing me, aren't you?"

"Just leave we'll end up attracting neighbours with our noise."

"If you want me to leave then you have to force me."

Suddenly Maya's right hand began to glow green and four more of her appeared out of nowhere. They all had mask but each one had a different emotion and their fingers intact."

" You know my gift allows me to create illusions. But you know us entities, unlike hosts, have no limit as well as that fall control over our gifts. So since my hosts make illusions that can't hurt a soul but mine can if I want to." She then pointed her blade at Grace before saying, "I call this little trick replication... Now die." and ordered her illusions to attack.

They all charged in full force, while Grace stood still, her face dark, her eyes glowing like fire, the veins in her arms and neck stood out like ropes under her skin as she muttered a strange word. When the first illusion came, it went for a slash from the ground. But instead it slashed nothing but air: Grace was nowhere to be seen. All the illusions locked at each other in confusion.

As Maya watched them as they were confused. She was uneasy; she wondered where Grace could be.

Before she could tell her illusions to be on guard, all their necks were suddenly bent back and they fell dead on the ground and slowly faded away like dust blown by the wind.

Maya then felt the air was thin a she was shaking uncontrollably. She then felt faint breathing touch the back of her neck. It was Grace who stood behind her.

"We should stop now, shouldn't we?" Grace advised

"Yes," Maya agreed," we should." Maya put her machete back in its sheath.

"You haven't changed a bit, have you?" Said Maya with sign of relief. Maya then went towards the fence to jump over it but before she did, she turned to Grace and asked, "Who are the people you remember that survived the fire?"

" What?" Said Grace in curiosity, "Why ask such a question?"

"Just answer." Maya replied in impatience, "or forget it."

Grace sighed before saying out the list of those she remembered, "There was me, you, Samantha, Susan and Mai's sisters."

" Is that all?" Maya asked.

" Yes it is. What else do you want?"

"To warn you."

"About what?"

" About what's to come," Maya replied before explaining," we were not the only ones who survived that fire. There were others."

Grace, not looking the slightest bit interested, asked, "What's the problem with that?"

"Wow you have forgotten; you have forgotten that she killed more kids than the fire. They are coming for her and when they do you'll be sorry."

" What if you bluffing?"

" I assure you I'm not." She then turned to look at Grace before saying, " I have a bone to pick with Sarah so it'll be a shame to see that she's dead when I haven't killed her myself."

And just like that she jumped over the fence and left to be seen another time.

Grace stood for a moment in contempt: she remembered Maya being a liar but the idea of other kids surviving the fire was possible in Grace's mind. She then thought of the one person who could survive the fire and the person who crossed her mind gave her chills.

Grace looked back and saw the bottle of booze lying down on the ground. She picked it up, took a sip and was about to walk to the door till she saw a dark boy, tall in statue, short haired, brown eyes, wearing a white vest and black short with slippers– looking at her with a shocked expression.

Right there Grace knew she was in trouble.
