Chapter 1 – Disposable

Chapter 1 preview

"Y-you guys... need to go ahead, o–"

She didn't even finish the sentence.

A wet crack echoed out—then silence.

Her eyes widened.

A line of blood slid slowly down her lips, trembling as she tilted her head... and froze.

In front of her stood it.

The monster. Four meters of raw nightmare.

Spikes jutted out from its body like twisted blades, each one glistening, some still fresh with the remains of whoever crossed its path. The one now impaled through her stomach pulsed—alive, breathing, humming with a sick energy.

The creature's form was almost humanoid—too upright, too aware. Its chest heaved slowly like it enjoyed the horror in her eyes.

Its face was a mask of bone and metal, mouth split into jagged, overlapping teeth like a grinder. And at the center of its head, a single molten eye blinked once. Slowly. Mockingly.

Behind her, her friends screamed.

She didn't hear them.

Time crawled. Pain hadn't even registered yet. All she could feel was... betrayal? No. Confusion.

Because deep inside this beast—beneath the armor, beneath the spikes—there was something familiar. A flicker of something she knew. Something—or someone—that should've never been the enemy.

And then it twisted the spike inside her.

Her knees buckled.

Everything went black.

Chapter One – Disposable

Reaching down, I gripped the jagged spikes that had impaled me, fingers trembling and slick with blood. My ears rang violently—each pulse of pain louder than the last. Beneath it all, one thing echoed the loudest

My heartbeat.

Loud.

Slowing.

Then—

Weightless.

A sudden force yanked me into the air, my body limp, blood trailing behind me like a crimson ribbon. Below, the beast let out a guttural growl, the kind that rattled the soul. I barely had time to process what was happening before it happened.

Its jaws opened wide.

I was eaten.

No chance to fight. No time to scream. No second wind.

The last thing I saw was their backs—those I had journeyed with. Running. Not even glancing back.

No hesitation.

No guilt.

Just... gone.

I knew they weren't strong enough to face it. I knew that. But they didn't even try. Didn't even look.

That stung more than the spikes ever could.

I wasn't a friend. I wasn't a comrade. I was a tool. A distraction.

A sacrifice.

As my flesh was torn apart in that monster's hollow jaws, it wasn't the pain that broke me.

It was the realization—

I was never meant to survive.
