Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: A Body Not My Own

Chapter 6: A Body Not My Own

Nyx (Yunxia's Body) – POV

A sharp pain tore through my head like a thousand needles as I slowly stood from the floor where I had been thrown. My vision was blurry, but the disgust in my chest was crystal clear. I staggered toward the door, every part of me aching, but clearly, Yue'er wasn't done playing the innocent.

She rushed over, slipping into her usual act, fake concern dripping from her voice.

"Sis, where are you going? I'm sorry Li Shen pushed you. Please don't be angry... I didn't mean to—"

I turned my head and gave her a look that could curdle blood. If I didn't feel like vomiting already, her face would've done the job.

Li Shen, ever the fool, yanked her behind him.

"Yunxia, enough! Why are you making that kind of face at your sister?!"

His voice was sharp, laced with judgment.

I didn't have the energy for this clown show.

I stormed out of the house, ignoring their cries and fake tears. I didn't look back.

As I stepped onto the pavement outside the estate, I finally glanced down at my wristwatch.

14:45. January 6th, 2029.

I paused.

A year and a few months. That was all the time left before the apocalypse.

My fingers clenched.

I didn't know who I was now—Yunxia, Nyx, or something in-between—but one thing was clear: I didn't have time to waste.

And if time is money, then all I needed was money to buy time.

And I was damn well going to buy every second I needed... no matter the cost.

But all those plans... all that ambition...

They were abruptly put on hold.

I had been holding out—just barely—until I made it to the only place I could call home. A small apartment tucked away from the chaos. It was the only thing the former owner of this body, Yunxia, had managed to secure with her own savings.

The moment I stepped inside and closed the door behind me, my legs gave out.

I collapsed to the floor.

A warm, metallic taste flooded my mouth—blood. It spilled from my lips, staining the cold tiles beneath me.

The poison...

Even now, it was still eating away at this body. This fragile, corrupted vessel.

Everything started spinning. My vision faded in and out. I could feel myself slipping—sinking into that abyss again.

But just as I hovered on the edge of unconsciousness...

I saw it.

A flicker.

A pulse deep within the chest.

Something shifted. Something ancient... and angry.

And in that split-second between fading and waking, I realized—

This body... had awakened.

Not just me.
