Chapter 49 - Chapter 48: Three Months of Change

On the balcony of the dormitory building, twelve-year-old Wanda sat in a chair, holding a book, but she wasn't reading the content as seriously as usual. This was her last day at the school, as three months had passed since she arrived.

The weather was gloomy, with a light drizzle and a low temperature. She was wearing a beautiful dark brown coat, and she distinctly remembered having a similar one as a child. Her father had bought it for her sixth birthday, but it was buried in the rubble from that nightmare.

There were four girls in the dorm, all her age. The other girls were very diligent. During their free time, they were either in the classroom or the library, reading and studying. Wanda once asked them why they had to study so hard, a concept she didn't understand.

"We can improve our lives, build up Madripoor, and help the person who changed it all," a beautiful blonde girl from the dorm said, holding up her book with a serious and solemn expression. "Even if it's just a little bit of power, I'm willing to do it."

She also told Wanda about her own past, which was dark and real. What kind of hellish torture would a beautiful young girl experience growing up among the dregs of society? It was a pain a hundred or a thousand times worse than what Wanda had endured. Her parents had been brutally killed while trying to protect her.

But just as she was about to be abandoned in a dark alley, thrown into a pot, or sold into a life of despair, a light shone on her. She saw with her own eyes the people who had abused her turn to dust and ashes in a golden sacred flame. The high and mighty god, wearing a noble and magnificent sacred armor, used his mercy and supreme power to cure her illness and her emaciated body.

That god changed Madripoor and placed countless children with similar experiences into the school's well-built dormitories. Soon, more and more children enrolled, each with their own dorm, clothes, dressing table, toiletries, and books. There were also kind teachers who provided knowledge and healed their inner wounds with compassion.

Through the teachers' stories, they found a new direction in life. They didn't need to forget their past, because that experience, while a nightmare, was also the catalyst that would make them stronger. The girl's bright smile was in stark contrast to the experience she had described, which had made Wanda tremble, fear, and weep.

At that moment, Wanda realized that her kind roommate, who loved to study and help others, had become a truly strong person because she had found a purpose. No future difficulty would be able to defeat her. It wasn't just her; there were many others like her in the school, and they had all become strong. They didn't need sympathy or regret, because their lives would be long, and their futures were destined to be wonderful.

Wanda was profoundly moved, as was Pietro. The environment can destroy a person, but it can also save them. The twins were no longer obsessed with the past. They didn't forget it, but they buried it deep in their hearts, vowing that when the time was right, they would water the flowers with blood.

Wanda began to study diligently. It was difficult at first, but with the help of the teachers, enthusiastic friends, and roommates, she gradually improved. The delicious food in the cafeteria, which was infused with a serum developed by the science department to aid in children's growth and development, also helped. The food not only tasted good but also strengthened her body. Her depleted body gradually recovered, and her mind, which had been in a state of chaos from long-term malnutrition, calmed down. Her concentration, thinking, and memory were all greatly enhanced. Her pale, sallow, and thin face also became fair, delicate, and beautiful.

In just three months, she had fallen in love with this school. It was beautifully built and very large, accommodating 23,000 people, including students, teachers, and staff. The architecture was mainly Gothic, with pointed arches, a three-dimensional spatial design, and vertical lines. The many classic stained-glass windows and sculpted figures gave it a unique artistic atmosphere, a sense of ancient mystery and medieval splendor within a quiet and serene environment.

The school had everything: teaching buildings, dormitories, parking structures, parks, soccer fields, basketball courts, a fountain square, a library, a clinic, and more. The roads were neat and orderly, lined with cherry trees that were a beautiful sight to behold. In this quiet environment, people couldn't help but immerse themselves, finding a sense of inner peace.

Today, in the hazy drizzle and gloomy weather, the school looked like a magical campus from a book, with a captivating beauty and mystery. Wanda loved the school, the students, the teachers, the quietness, and everything about it. Here, her complicated and hateful heart seemed to be cleansed and purified, allowing her to temporarily forget the past. She learned to examine her past without dwelling in painful memories, turning those experiences into a catalyst for her to become stronger.

It was a pity that this short but beautiful three months would become a permanent memory, because she was leaving soon. This made the girl's mood turn a bit melancholic.

Soon, someone knocked on the dormitory door. The roommate who opened it saw the dorm mother, who was there to tell her it was time to leave.

Wanda had packed her clothes the day before, and with the school's help, they had already been sent to her future training location. She gently closed the book she was holding and placed it on the glass table. After a warm hug with her three roommates, she left.

Holding an umbrella, she, Pietro, and the other students who were being sent to the training base walked to the helipad and stepped onto the transport plane's deck. Before she went up, Wanda turned her head and looked at the school in the dark, drizzling rain.

"Goodbye..."

Finally, the plane vanished into the clouds under the jet of flames, and the campus became quiet again, as if silently waiting for the next batch of students to fill its halls once more.
