"Study?"
In the principal's office at the Madripoor Port School, the twins, Wanda and Pietro, who were now in new clothes, looked up at the muscular principal. His stern, expressionless face made them feel a little scared. But upon hearing the news, they were deeply disappointed.
This was their third day in this new country. The campus life was something they had never experienced before, and everything felt so strange, calm, and peaceful. The atmosphere of the campus was like a fine wine that left them intoxicated.
This was deeply unsettling for the twins, who had lived a life of wandering and darkness.
Was this place really good?
Yes, it was. In the dormitories, students their age had enthusiastically approached them, wanting to be friends. When the twins couldn't adapt, their classmates would help them integrate. When they couldn't understand a lesson, good students would lend a hand. Everything was beautiful. This was the life they had once dreamed of, the life they had imagined.
However, the seeds of hatred in their hearts continued to take root and sprout like a poison deep in their bones. They yearned for strength to fuel that hatred. In the human experimentation base, blood, cruelty, and pain had been their only motivations to survive. When two strangers suddenly broke in, displayed mysterious and powerful magic, killed everyone in the base, and told them that the person behind them was a god, the twins were scared and nervous but also overjoyed.
God was omnipotent. He could give them more powerful abilities, even if it meant selling their souls. But the result of all this was that they now had to go to school.
"Why?" Wanda asked in a loud voice.
The muscular principal stared down at the angry little girl. She stubbornly held his gaze and didn't back down. Pietro beside her trembled with fear, but a moment later, the principal showed a slightly strained smile.
"I like your courage. I also know why you were chosen by God."
"Chosen children?"
"God's Guards," the muscular principal said, his cold face becoming fanatical. "God chooses these children, trains them, and gives them power that only he can possess. Each of them will become a warrior chosen by God. They will fight to protect the supreme God. All evil will vanish under their protection."
His fanatical and passionate words slowly calmed down as he looked at the twins with a complex expression. "You are very lucky; you are also warriors chosen by God. But years of wandering have left your bodies malnourished. Do you remember the full-body examination I gave you when you first came to school?"
The principal picked up a document from the desk behind him and held it up. "Malnourished, with resistance far lower than that of normal children your age, anemia, stunted growth, an unstable mental state, and a loss of appetite. Don't worry, this is normal. We had over two million people with the same symptoms as you before, but they have all been cured."
"The food and drinks in the school cafeteria contain diluted serums. You little ones need to absorb the serum this way to gradually improve your physical condition and strengthen your bodies. During this process, you also need to learn. Knowledge is power that can help you broaden your horizons. Three months from now, you will be sent to Training Base No. 3 in the Arctic ice fields, where you will undergo brutal training. With your current physical condition, I don't think you'd survive the first day."
Wanda and Pietro looked at each other, their eyes full of surprise and emotion.
The twins looked at the tall, muscular principal. His somewhat cold and rugged face now seemed so kind in their hearts. They finally understood that their great God and the principal had not abandoned them; instead, they had given them a greater responsibility.
For a moment, the twins were filled with a sense of curiosity and respect for the God they had never met. Though they hadn't met him, all of his actions showed a silent care that they hadn't felt in a long time.
"So, do you understand? Your current mission is to study and eat."
"Thank you, Principal Sparrow."
The twins bowed, offering their impulsive apology. The muscular principal laughed and used his massive hand, which was as big as a palm-leaf fan, to ruffle the children's hair. These are the future Guards of God. Their status will be extremely high. I won't have this chance again, so I'd better get my fill now. Their hair was dry and brittle from years of malnutrition, but he didn't mind.
He rubbed their heads a few more times before frowning. "Okay, class is about to start. Now, get back to class immediately. You know that your knowledge is a complete mess. I don't want the chosen warriors who leave my school to have the worst grades. Go."
The twins were no longer afraid of the principal's frown because they now knew that this principal, who looked like a tall brown bear, had a gentle heart beneath his stern face. "Goodbye, Principal Sparrow. We're going to class now."
Smiling, the siblings held hands and left the principal's office.
Watching the twins' backs as they left, the muscular principal, Sparrow, returned to his desk, put down the medical exam documents, thought for a moment, and picked up the landline. "Carlo, I need you to pay special attention to those two children. I see hatred and extremism in their hearts. I don't need them to give up their hatred, but I need them to be absolutely loyal to God. It doesn't need to be too direct. We just need to subtly instill thoughts and influence them."
