Sunny's POV
Sunny threw himself sideways, pulling Luna with him as frozen fire blasted past their heads.
The Ice Phoenix's attack turned the snow where they'd been standing into solid crystal. If they'd been one second slower, they would have been frozen statues forever.
"Stop!" Sunny shouted, rolling behind a wall of ice with Luna. "We need your help!"
"You need to earn my help," the Phoenix replied, its voice like cracking glaciers. "And earning requires suffering."
Another blast of frozen fire shattered their ice shelter into a million sparkling pieces. Sunny grabbed Luna's hand and they ran, slipping and sliding through the deep snow.
"There!" Luna pointed to a cave carved into an ice mountain. "We can hide in there!"
They dove into the cave just as another wave of frozen fire swept across the entrance. The Phoenix landed outside with a sound like an avalanche, blocking their only escape route.
