Chapter 2 - The mission

16 hours earlier....

I needed to do this mission. I had to get into sector one. My sister being in sector 5 she barely got to eat. I shared my rations with her but it was getting riskier and it was barely keeping us both alive.

"How long are you going to be this time, Lanora?" Aleasia asked me for the fifth time.

"I told you, its a routine mission. I will be back before you know it. Then we can try and get out of here." I say to her

"One of these days your going to get caught, Lanora" she says

"I heard the vampire kings security isn't secure and anyways I've never been caught." I say while putting essentials into my my backpack. "Besides if I got caught who would stay here to make sure you dont get yourself into trouble." I joke. I grab my favorite leather jacket and reach for the door and look back at her for moment.

"Well, who said you had to look out for me? I can take care of myself" she says

"Righttt." I sarcastically replied while walking out.

I know she worried about me but honestly I could do this all day if it meant that we had a safe place to sleep and eat, no matter how sparse and inconsistent it maybe, it was home. The only home me and her had. We shared a room. It wasn't much, bunkers with a lamp, a dresser and our walls were scattered with Aleasia's paintings. She loved to paint. Anytime I would go into the city for a mission I would get her some more paint. She's my sister and I hate to see her being beat down by this place. She was a good fighter, but lacked the motivation to push forward. She didnt understand why we killed people. 'What did they do to us anyways?' she would ask.

I understand where she comes from but if we dont do it, master will just pick someone else to do it and you'd be on his shit list. Its best to just do it. She saw the world differently. She looked at the magic, the colors and the good in people. No matter how much was taken from us, no matter how many times we were beaten, she still believed in happily ever after. I did not believe in such things.

What do I look like? A stay at home mom with an apron and pie in my freaking hands. Ha. I chuckle to myself as I leave the compounds. Walking down the same path I always walk down to get to the cities. I have to watch out in the woods because there are hunters looking to collect meat and also pluck people up to steal their supplies or even clothes. Shaking my head at myself I remember when I was younger I was pocketed for everything I owned and had to walk back to the compound in my undergarments, a limp from a bear trap and a busted lip from running my mouth. I learned to look very keenly at my surroundings and have my ears to the ground every fifty paces. Damn scavengers. Low life's. As I continue to walk I can just barely make out the light glow of the castle. Finally. I didnt remember it taking 8 hours to track this far.

I pull my backpack closer and I move with more stealth just incase they have watchers in the tree lines. It almost seems to easy honestly.

I sat on the outer skirts of the city waiting for dust, when the vamps start to come out of hiding. They use gargoyle's to guard the castle. You do not want to be caught by one of them. They are ruthless, to say the least. Personally I've never been caught by one of them but I've lost many people from my sectors to them and the way their mangled bodies looked did not look pretty. I'd rather not figure out how they ended up the way they did.

I see flickers of light coming on and people coming out as well as their vampire masters. Some blood bags lived like a pet instead of a prisoners. Neither predicaments seemed enjoyable to me. They wore collars like freaking dogs and they sucked on their blood freely, some blood bags even seemed like they might enjoy it. I heard when they sucked on your blood it felt like some euphoria, this happens becaude of a chemical their fangs secrets.

I move throught the city building by building in between the alleys and vamp carts. I take my time and make sure I dont take a single step out of line. Alot is at stake and I have to get this done.

When I get to the side of the largest part of the castle and where my Intel told me the vampire king will be I move to that region of the castle. Shooting my Grappling hook launcher out into the balcony a top of me, making sure the hook is in good, I give it a little tug before I scale the side of the building. When I get to the top I notice 2 guards near the kings door. There should be two outside and two inside if we are going by procedure. I take a throw knife and hit it bullseye into the guard and then I run swiftly before he drops and jump on the other guard wrapping my legs around his neck and taking my hands and snap his neck within seconds. Its like they aren't even trained for a 5'4 brunette assassin to attack them.

I move there bodies to a near by linen closet because I dont need the alarms going off when I try to escape. I put my ear to the door to try and listen to what's going on, on the other side.

"If we keep letting him fade more and more up north without declaring war then we will look weak to the east and west." A pause "But if we attack without just cause then we will be forfeiting the treaty and leaving us fair game from not only the east, and west but also the south. We will be sitting ducks."

"You need to find a clause in the treaty that is a loophole so we can get this damn dog in check."

Im not sure what they were talking about but I didnt have much time to figure it out either. So a smoke bomb it is and I'm roof hopping out of here, my signature escape.

I kick the doors open, mentally noting 3 officials and the king over looking a map in the center of a table. I throw the smoke bomb jump to the left with a knife in both of my hands I slit the first ones throat easily. I jump on the table running towards the king, when I feel someone grab my foot. I lose my footing and I hit my face on the table hard.
