"That's not a cat!"
"That's a Devourer of Origins!"
"Does the Devourer even understand?"
Nick Fury's egg-shaped face grew even darker, nearly black as a skillet.
He really wanted to call Satan (or the diary's mysterious author) and say: don't give half-baked descriptions!
This is so misleading!
A cat? That was obviously the terrifying, universe-level Devourer of Origins!
Although it looked exactly like a big orange tabby, Fury had almost believed it was a cat until it swallowed the Tesseract.
But you can't just write in your diary that my eye was scratched blind by a cat!
That would leave Tony and Natasha completely misinformed. Fury could already imagine their shock and disbelief right now.
Especially Tony… he would definitely laugh uncontrollably.
Fury—Nick "the egg"—was about to become the butt of a joke.
Oh, heavens!
No! This was absolutely terrible.
How would he ever face the two diary holders after this? Even if he explained that the orange cat-looking thing wasn't a cat but the universe's deadliest beast, they wouldn't believe him.
Satan has wronged me!
Satan has truly wronged me!
Fury was utterly frustrated.
His remaining eye fixed rigidly on the diary, hoping it would explain everything in the next spoiler. Otherwise, he'd never face Stark and the others again.
[But let's be clear: that cat isn't just any cat—it's the Devourer of Origins, feared even by the Kree!]
[Cute and fluffy on the outside, but one bite and it can swallow the Tesseract!]
[Why in the world would a terrifying cosmic beast take the form of a big orange cat?]
[Truly, the universe is full of wonders.]
[After it spat out the Tesseract, where did it go? It hasn't appeared since!]
[Some say it remained on Earth, survived the Snap, and even had offspring—truth unknown.]
[Hopefully it wasn't adopted as a pet again… that would be hilarious.]
"So it wasn't a cat?"
"I knew Nick Fury would be such a pushover," Tony Stark suddenly realized.
Honestly, seeing Fury's eye scratched blind by a "cat" had genuinely shocked him, almost made him spit out his drink.
The King of Agents, powerless against a cat? Ridiculous.
Turns out, it was just a misunderstanding—the so-called cat was actually the "Devourer of Origins."
Tony had never heard of it before, but it could swallow the Tesseract?
The Tesseract is a Space Stone!
In other words, the Devourer of Origins swallowed an Infinity Stone!
What kind of beast is this? Unbelievable!
No wonder even the diary's owner called it a "cosmic predator."
If it can swallow the Tesseract, what can't this beast consume? Its very name—Devourer of Origins—implies nothing is safe from it.
Tony hadn't expected such a being to exist on Earth.
And why, oh why, would such a terrifying entity look exactly like a cat?
"Too bad," Nick Fury muttered, shaking his head with restrained regret.
A weapon like the Devourer of Origins… had been lost!
This was one of Fury's biggest regrets in decades.
If the Devourer were still around, it would have been S.H.I.E.L.D.'s ultimate trump card.
Even if Fury couldn't control it, having such a cosmic beast provided enormous leverage. He even imagined Loki showing up on Earth—would the Devourer just swallow him whole?
But unfortunately…
The Devourer had vanished.
Fury had tried to track it down after its disappearance, but there was no doubt:
The Devourer and the big orange cat looked identical. How could Fury find it?
He couldn't possibly round up every orange cat in the U.S.—impossible.
So, reluctantly, Fury accepted the truth: the Devourer of Origins was gone.
Though… it supposedly had offspring. That was something Fury hadn't anticipated.
So now… there were at least two Devourers on Earth?
Maybe more. No one knew how many it had produced.
Considering its cosmic-level power, Fury didn't know whether this was good news or bad.
After pondering, Fury returned his attention to the diary, waiting for the next revelation.
Minutes passed. Nothing.
Fury sighed. Satan had once again arbitrarily stopped updating.
"Fine…"
Snap!
Fury closed the diary and carefully locked it in a drawer.
Even if no one else could see or steal it, Fury's caution as a top agent ran deep.
With that done, he picked up his trench coat, exhausted, and left the Triskelion.
After handling so many matters, Fury was genuinely tired.
The diary's spoilers and other issues could wait until tomorrow.
…
"Sir, there's something I think you should know."
The next day, at the Triskelion.
Hawkeye appeared, his expression serious.
Fury, busy handling paperwork, glanced at him with his one eye.
"Go ahead."
"Captain America is missing."
Hawkeye paused, then added, "The elderly Captain, and Peggy Carter—they disappeared, moved away together."
The two had vanished? Fury knew exactly what that meant: the future Cap was deliberately avoiding him.
He didn't want Fury meddling anymore.
Fury kept a calm exterior but let out a long, quiet sigh internally.
This Cap was determined not to share future intel.
From his knowledge of this version of Cap, Fury wasn't surprised.
"What should we do next?" Hawkeye asked, seeking guidance.
"Find him?"
"No need," Fury decided after thought. "Your task is complete, Barton."
Since Cap made his intentions clear, Fury wouldn't push further.
Besides, Fury already had a diary.
Even if the future spoilers were fragmented and random, it was enough.
Pre-knowledge of the future—better than nothing.
Of course, Barton's task was only done; Fury would still monitor future Cap.
Even an elderly Cap with extraordinary powers remained a potential threat. Fury would not ignore it.
Though rationally, old Cap likely wouldn't cause trouble, Fury still needed to track him discreetly.
Much like in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, unexpected attacks could happen.
After sending Barton away, Fury called in Coulson.
He assigned Coulson a task: surveil Harrison Haim secretly. Fury didn't reveal Cap's true identity.
"Also…" Fury added, giving Coulson a secondary mission: investigate Helen Zhao.
The scientist who would invent the Regeneration Cradle was important to Fury.
"Understood, Sir!" Coulson departed reliably as always.
Fury then communicated securely with the newly "promoted" Pierce, confirming everything was in place.
The Skrulls adapted quickly to their cover, revealing no flaws.
Yes—S.H.I.E.L.D.'s former enemy now served Fury. He had control over Hydra.
The last remaining problem? The Skrulls.
According to the diary, Fury strongly suspected Talos had lied. There had to be more Skrulls on Earth.
Investigating them wasn't easy.
The Skrulls were Fury's secret trump card; sending others risked exposure.
They were also highly skilled spies, familiar with counterintelligence, and physically superior.
Even Fury had to be cautious.
After careful consideration, Fury made a choice: Tony Stark.
Tony, also a diary holder, was perfect for this task.
First, Tony already knew about the Skrulls, so no risk of exposure.
Second, J.A.R.V.I.S. made the surveillance task efficient and safe. Any Skrull trying to hide from cameras or microphones would fail against J.A.R.V.I.S.
Fury happily met with Tony again.
"I never thought I'd become a spy," Tony said lazily, slouching across from Fury.
"Life's full of surprises, isn't it?"
Fury gave a knowing shrug.
"Enough chit-chat. Let's get to the point."
Tony didn't want small talk. Fury wasted no time either.
He explained the Skrull surveillance mission to Tony in full.
Predictably, Tony agreed almost immediately.
Secret infiltration was something Tony couldn't ignore.
"You're counting on me, huh? Hate that feeling," Tony grumbled.
Snap!
Fury, confident, placed a dossier on the table—complete files on the Skrulls Fury had gathered.
