Chapter 142 - Chapter 142 Past Family Situation

As the young man angrily told her he was going to the hospital right away, Su Qing pursed her lips and smiled softly as she heard the beeping sound from the other end of the phone.

When Su Rao emerged from the room, she saw her daughter smiling.

"Qing Qing, come here. Mommy has something to tell you."

Su Rao couldn't bear to interrupt, but she still called her daughter over. Su Qing's smile faded slightly, and she sat down on the sofa. She looked at the things Su Rao had placed on the coffee table, her eyes instantly hardening.

"Mom, what are you doing with all this!"

Su Qing looked at the items on the coffee table: bank cards, passbooks, and some things she didn't want to see.

Su Rao, seeing her daughter's expression, couldn't help but squeeze her palm.

"Qing Qing, Mom knows you resented me at first, but I think if you accept this money, your future university life will be less difficult."

Su Rao wanted to reach out and tug at her daughter's fingers, but she dropped them. The Jiangcheng bank card made the smile on Su Qing's face completely fade.

"Qing Qing, I consulted a lawyer about this bank card. We can take it. The money in it isn't that much. I think a normal compensation would be 100,000 yuan."

Su Rao actually thought 100,000 yuan was a lot, but considering the luxury car that family drove when they arrived and the one million yuan in cash they left on the coffee table, Su Rao knew it was very little.

"Mom, I don't blame you. I know I can take it, but I don't want take."

Legally, it was compensation, but Su Qing didn't want to accept it.

But if it really was because of that time when Su Rao was in the hospital, and she was short of the hundred thousand, she might have used it. A hint of bitterness spread across Su Qing's lips.

"Mom, take this money. Take it for me. When I really need it someday, I'll ask you for it."

Su Qing knew that the "someday" she was talking about probably didn't exist in her own world or life, but she didn't want to see the change on her mother's face.

She really should let go of those things in the past that couldn't be changed. She had resented Su Rao before, but after that incident, she had completely let go of that knot in her heart.

She understood her mother, Su Rao's weaknesses, her past, and so much more. At that time, she had been wrong to judge her by her own standards.

Su Qing watched Su Rao reach out to grasp her fingers, then retract them. She took the initiative and held them, looking into her eyes and whispering softly.

"Mom, I don't blame you. I have not blamed you for a long time."

Su Rao's eyes flickered with warmth. Her beauty had long faded, she didn't even have any education, and her husband wasn't exactly a good man. How could she have deserved such a good daughter? Su Rao returned her hand and held Su Qing's fingers.

She knew she was in a state of complete clarity about her body condition, and so there were some things she wanted to clarify.

"Qing Qing, Mom just wanted to clarify our family's financial situation."

"The money in this card is a little bit of savings from the past few years. It's not much, just over thirty thousand."

This was all Su Rao's personal savings, earned from odd jobs. Su Qing knew that the money she used to pay for her illness was essentially her school bonuses. Su's husband didn't care about his daughter, so her grades were good or not no concern to him. He didn't know what competitions Su Qing had participated in, and he would only say things like, "What's the point of a girl studying so much?"

Su's mother didn't understand, but Su Qing was completely focused in her studies. Her mother had already opened a bank account for Su Qing with her bonuses, allowing her to save quite a bit from a young age.

The money originally set aside for college was actually spent on Su Rao's hospital stay, leaving around 70,000 or 80,000 yuan.

Su Qing used to wonder why her parents didn't divorce. Why were Mom and Dad like that?

Why did he drink?

Why was Mom so cowardly?

Su Qing had always been aloof, and both dad and daughter had always ignored each other. But her father, obsessed with money, even developed a gambler's mentality, leaving Su Qing completely disappointed and even resentful.

Everything that happened after that made Su Qing feel that he deserved his punishment, and her already cold temper grew even colder.

It was just that the woman Su Qing had always imagined as weak actually loved her so much, which had stirred Su Qing's cold heart for a long time. It turned out that she also had maternal love, but she had ignored it for too long.

When Su Qing saw the tens of thousands of yuan Su Rao had earned, her eyes, though she rarely cried, suddenly became redder.

She looked into the black box Su Rao had taken out. There were silver bracelets, rings, and some other small items, but they didn't look very valuable.

"Qing Qing, here are something your grandmother left for me, along with this house in Wuzhen. She also left it to me. I'm her only daughter. She kicked me out a while ago because I insisted on marrying him, but when I came back, she still left the house to me. Now, I'm leaving these to you."

"These bracelets and other things are your dowry."

"I have not achieved much in my life, nor have I given you a happy family, but I hope you'll be happy in the future!"

Su Rao's eyes were sincere. Her voice, already soft and gentle, was now even softer with emotion.

That was nearly all of Su Rao's belongings.

Su Qing knew that it had been incredibly difficult for Su Rao to amass those things under him. It seemed her misunderstanding had been profound.

Su Qing shielded her eyes, lowered her head, and clutched Su Rao's palm.

"Mom, why are you saying all this? Keep these things for now. I know you love me. I'm not the little girl I used to be, always arguing with you."

Su Qing bit her lip, thinking back to the past. She felt like she was just as Jiang Sui had said, an ungrateful person.

"You ah, you never argue with me."

Su Rao's eyes held a smile, yet also a hint of regret.

From childhood to adulthood, Su Qing had never been like other children, always smiling, acting coquettishly, asking for hugs, asking for candy, and so on. Her glass-colored eyes were always quiet, making it impossible to guess what was going on inside her little head.

Even adults couldn't read her.

She always seemed more mature than her peers, even a little aloof. Su Rao thought about this and felt that her failed marriage had affected her child.

Unavoidably, there were regrets; otherwise, she wouldn't have done such an extreme thing.
