Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Will You Become the Lord of a Dimension?

The Ancient One looked at Alaric seriously.

"You should know how terrifying Dormammu is, shouldn't you?"

"But how did you persuade him to let us go?"

The more she thought about it, the more illogical it seemed. Dormammu who was not furious, not tyrannical, but calm, that was almost unimaginable.

"Oh, that?" Alaric smiled faintly.

"I relied on the Time Stone. As soon as I stepped inside, I wrapped myself in a layer of time magic. As long as I died, I could return to the past and start an infinite loop. After repeating that I don't even know how many times, Dormammu finally gave in and agreed to negotiate."

"…"

The Ancient One felt respect. At the same time, it reminded her.

Wasn't that exactly what Strange would later do? Use an infinite time loop to force Dormammu into an agreement and make him leave Earth.

But if Alaric knew that this method worked, did that mean he also knew what was supposed to happen only in the future?

"Do you… know about me?" she asked quietly.

"Which part?"

"About the fact that I use dark energy to prolong my life," said the Ancient One, gritting her teeth.

Does he know everything about her? If he does, does that mean he is aware of their timeline and in which stage she is now?

The Ancient One truly wanted to ask him how much he knew about the future, but deep down she felt that Alaric would not give a direct answer.

"Yes, I know," he confirmed with a nod.

"And… it doesn't bother you?" she asked hesitantly.

She knew what this would mean for any sorcerer of Kamar-Taj. If they discovered that their Supreme Sorcerer, the one they trusted endlessly, actually drew power from darkness, it would shatter their faith.

As it happened with Mordo. After he found out, he turned his back on her, became Baron Mordo and later the sworn enemy of Strange.

"Why would it bother me?" Alaric replied calmly. "I know what you mean, but on the contrary, I admire you for it."

He paused, then added in a determined tone:

"In my opinion, whether it is white or black magic, in its essence it is only energy. It all depends on how it is used. Of course, many will be deceived by demons and lose themselves before the temptation of power. But I - I will not."

There was not a trace of doubt in his voice.

"I believe in you." The Ancient One nodded.

How great Alaric's talent truly was, she could not see through.

"So, why exactly did you accept Dormammu's power?"

"Alaric, you have read many books about magic and used countless spells. You should know that using such powerful energy always carries a price."

"As a lord of demons, Dormammu does not know trust. He is cunning and evil, everything about him is perverted. That is why I hope you will be careful and not let him deceive you!" The Ancient One warned seriously.

"I know. I won't trust Dormammu."

"Moreover, the energy he gave me doesn't belong to him, but to the Dark Dimension itself." Alaric explained.

"To the Dark Dimension itself? What do you mean by that?" The Ancient One was confused.

"Do you know the origin of Dormammu?"

"I know a little. Dormammu was once a man, a sorcerer. But in the end, to gain greater power, he abandoned his human body and became the demon god of the Dark Dimension."

"That's right. According to his words, the reason for his strength is that through the Dark Dimension he can infinitely draw mysterious energy, something like the original energy source of the dimension itself. As long as the Dark Dimension exists, and his followers summon him, he will exist forever."

"So, Dormammu gave you a part of that energy?"

"Just a little." Alaric pressed his fingers together and made a gesture.

"…"

The Ancient One raised her eyebrow. Just a little? Didn't you see how hard it was for Dormammu to do that? If it weren't for your threat, he certainly wouldn't have let you have even that!

She imagined Alaric cold-bloodedly negotiating with Dormammu, and it made her smile inwardly. Truly, only he would be capable of doing something like that.

"So what do you plan to do with that energy?"

When the Ancient One finally realized it, she felt calmer. As long as Alaric was not like her, as long as he did not take the path of obsession with dark powers, then he should be allowed to walk his own path.

Through all her observation and conversations, she knew that Alaric never took on something he wasn't certain of.

An example of that was his entry into the Dark Dimension.

Even if she hadn't gone with him, Alaric would not have been defeated. On the contrary, Dormammu was the one who was losing.

"Well, I should use it to create a dimension." Alaric said after some thought.

He had already understood the laws of dimensions through his observations in the Dark Dimension, and now, with the energy Dormammu had given him, it was enough to try opening his own, separate dimension.

As if creating a small universe.

"What?!"

"You want to open a dimension!?"

"Will you become the master of a dimension?!" The Ancient One was completely stunned.

Was that even something a human being could do!?
