Ivy's POV

We arrived at the house, and I inhaled deeply. Despite my reluctance, I knew this confrontation was inevitable. I had to face the harsh reality of what they had planned—what they would undoubtedly attempt again given the opportunity. Warren was easily manipulated, a man without backbone. And Jade? She would stop at nothing—even murder—to claim what she believed belonged to her. Unfortunately for me, that "what" happened to be my mate.

"A pathetic excuse for a mate, at that," Killian commented in my mind, causing me to snort involuntarily.

Grant glanced over, eyebrow raised in question.

"Just Killian being Killian," I explained with a shrug. Another deep breath steadied my nerves.

"You need to see this through to the end," Grant said softly, his expression serious.

"I'm aware." After giving myself one more moment of preparation, I stepped out of the vehicle. Before I could fully exit, my mother engulfed me in an enthusiastic embrace.
