Chapter 9 - Personal Relationships

I could feel the phantom cramp that my hands would suffer after I was done for today. Granted, we didn't use pencil and paper, nor did we suffer such weakness due to our lightforms, but I still had to write with a pen. As advanced as it was. Though I guessed it wasn't that bad, we would soon be arriving at our New Colony System and I would be given free reign in ruling the colony in Pink Diamond's name!

Oh yes! She finally responded, exactly as I predicted and with new updates. Big updates.

My defenseless fleet? Yeah, not so defenseless anymore! Yellow Diamond must've heard some rumours or something because she practically scolded Pink into oblivion and! She sent me a personal message! AAAHHHHH!!

I was fangirling so hard, but I didn't care! I might've been assigned to Pink Diamond, but I could feel in my non-existent bones that I was meant for Yellow Diamond! It totally wasn't because I was an yellow emerald. Totally.

Still, as glad as I was for the news I was dreading the workload that was dumped onto me. Having Gems managing colonies isn't rare, but they were usually made for management. My experience managing our fleet might somewhat translate into governing a colony but I didn't have the knowledge for it!

But, on the bright side, I definitely earned a Pearl for myself. If only to dump the managerial workload onto her as I took care of our fleet. I kind of feel bad in planning to do that, but I simply didn't have the experience nor time to take care of both an entire star system and managing a fleet that contained thousands of Gems and hundreds of ships. Maybe in a few centuries, or millenia I would be able to do it myself. Maybe, I wasn't sure.

Still, I was getting ahead of myself. We still had to arrive at the star system and colonize it. Probably establish a station with actual railcannons and laser weaponry. And since I have been given free reign… Hehehehehe. My battalions will finally be given a chance to be tested. And my wargames! Oh it'll be so fun to do mock battles instead of using simulators that just assumed that every gem would obey and behave perfectly!

*Tin* *Tin*

The soft sound took me from my thoughts and I looked at my door with a raised eyebrow. Who would be trying to see me at this hour? I was about to finish my workload!

''Come in.'' I said outloud, and my door opened allowing the Nephrite that I promoted into Captain to come in. She looked nervous as she came into my office and stopped in front of me, performing a salute, before speaking.

(Insert Pic Here)

''My Emerald, Nephrite Facet-321 Cabochon-312.'' She said, and I waited a moment to see if she would speak again. When she didn't, I gestured for her to continue. She dropped her salute, as her cheeks blushed a little, before she bowed at me? What in the Stars name?

''I wanted to thank you personally, my Emerald! For believing in me and for promoting me! I… Um… I prepared… a Dance to show you how grateful I am. Would you be willing to see it?'' Nephrite asked shyly, and I had to hold my shock and the sudden feeling that this would be extremely comedic to watch.

I had to hide my mouth, as I was grinning like a loon but I nodded to her. A dance? Oh, I wonder if she came up with it? Or did she watch a Pearl dance? Oh, I really can't wait to see it. This type of entertainment is rare! And to see another Gem dance that wasn't the perfect Pearls ought to be good.

She started by first getting some distance from my table, and looking at my office. Probably to see if she had enough space to dance. She seemed to have it, or at least was confident that it would be enough for whatever she planned.

The series of events that followed next were in a simple word. Complicated. She was dancing to an unknown and silent tune, but I could tell she had nailed the beginning, as she moved fluidly like many Pearls I had seen do in the database. Her moves were elegant, wide, and fueled with emotion. It was beautiful, and I was just about to clap at her when she tripped on her own feet and fell down face first. Thankfully she avoided damaging her Gem, but it didn't stop me from bursting into laughter.

''HAHAHAHAHAHHAA!'' I laughed hard for a solid moment before I wiped a tear from my eye, ''Oh, Nephrite. I really needed that. Though you really didn't need to go through the effort of teaching yourself how to dance.'' I giggled as she got up blushing, though she wasn't talking.

I frowned at that, before I rose from my seat. She startled at that, and looked away from me as I got close to her. I grabbed her chin, and made her look into me. We stared at each other in silence for a moment, before I spoke.

''You did good. But let me show you how to actually dance.'' I spoke softly to her before I grabbed her hands, and began guiding her through the motions of a waltz.

Waltzes weren't a thing in the Great Diamond Empire, so Nephrite was quick to make a mistake. But I didn't care, I simply corrected her form silently, before we continued dancing at a silent tune.

At our own rhythm.

Two Gems dancing privately amongst each other, for no reason other than that they could.
