Evelyn's POV
I barely slept a wink last night. Every time I closed my eyes, I was dragged back into the same suffocating spiral of questions that refused to let me go.
Why did Lisa keep warning me about Aiden? She had said it so firmly, almost desperately, like her something depended on it. Don't get entangled with him, Evelyn. But why? What did she see that I didn't? To me, Aiden hadn't seemed dangerous at all. In fact, there had been something hauntingly sad in his eyes, something that made me want to sit beside him beneath the moon forever. He hadn't even tried to pretend, his pain was there, raw and bare. That didn't feel like a threat. That felt….. human.
But then another face intruded, one that always left me boiling with a different kind of fire. Lucian Draegor. The demon wolf. The beast everyone feared, and the one I had now come to despise. I used to think fear was the worst emotion he could draw from me, but I was wrong. Hatred was worse.
