"Mate."
The beta and I turned towards Aaliyah, who was now in the arms of Ben. Aw, I love when this happens. She had a major crush on him, and he turned out to be her mate. The beta was seething with anger, " Get away from my sister mutt!"
Ben dismissed his anger, still holding onto Aaliyah, " Relax, Trent, she's my mate. And we've known each other since forever, you know, I wouldn't hurt a hair on her head." He kissed the top of Aaliyah's head, who replied with a satisfied purr.
Aaliyah looked towards her mate, " We have to inform the Alpha! He's gonna be so happy!"
Trent scoffed. " When was the last time you've ever seen him happy?"
She swatted her brother's arm. " Hey! Don't talk about him like that. You know he has been going through a lot lately."
"Yeah, yeah. Always quick to defend him, I see." Gabe said with a twinkle of jealousy in his eyes.
I looked at Trent and scrunched my eyebrows. Since when do betas even talk badly about their alphas? There's something wrong here.
"Anyways, I give you my blessing to be my sister's mate, but on the condition you keep the PDA to a minimum in front of me!"
" Hahaha!" Aaliyah replied. "You're just mad that now your best friend and your sister are mated. So you two will be the only single two left."
Ben kissed her head and excused himself. He was on border patrol tonight, unfortunately.
Aaliyah looked a bit bummed out, but she asked me to spend the rest of the night with her instead and I agreed.
He rolled his eyes. "You should probably head to bed about now. Your friend has a long day tomorrow, your alpha's back." He said to his sister.
She nodded. "Would it be okay if I take a walk with Lily? It's her first day here, and I wanna show her the sunrise on the mountain, and you know, with everything that happened today, I highly doubt I'll be able to sleep."
He shook his head. "She's a rogue. What if she hurts you or escapes?"
I quickly stepped in. "I've been rogue for about 2 years and have yet to kill a wolf. Trust me, I will not be starting with the first friend I've ever made."
"Ok. I'll trust you, Aaliyah. You can go to our spot ONLY. And stay within the borders at all times!!"
We left the house and began our walk into the woods. I stayed on high alert, slowly watching and listening.
"Today is the happiest day of my life!" Aaliyah said as she grabbed my arm and side hugged me. "I finally have a best friend, yeah, by the way, you're kind of stuck with me now. And I found my mate!!!"
"I'm really glad you're happy. I'm happy too. You're the first friend I've ever made."
"I promise to be the best best friend in the world."
We reached a cliff and sat down just as the sun began to rise.
"Wow, it's spectacular."
"I'm glad you like it. It's our spot. Our being my brother, Gabe, Ben and I."
"Who's Gabe?"
"Gabe is our Alpha. He's like a brother to me. God, I hope you're his mate so you can stay in the pack."
That took me aback. " I don't think I'll be. I mean, I was an omega, and he's an alpha. That's like a lion being paired with a bunny."
She started giggling. "That is a wild example, but he's really sweet. I think you'd make a great pair."
I sighed, " Do you think I'll have a mate?"
She scrunched her eyebrows. "Why wouldn't you?"
" I don't know. I'm a rogue. Rogues don't have mates."
" Well, you don't have to be anymore. Even if you aren't Gabe's mate. He loves me, I'll get him to let you jo---"
I felt a sharp pain behind my head, it felt like I was. hit with something. I heard Aaliyah scream my name. I try to regain my strength.
Aaliyah is coming to my side as a man came into my vision. "Stay back!!" I yelled.
I can see Aaliyah's eyes glass over. She was using the mindlink. The man smirks at me before grabbing my hair. "Run Aaliyah!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
"No! I won't leave you." She said as she tried to attack the man, but I'm quick to push her away.
"AALIYAH RUN. PLEASE."
I can hear the sound of her running.
The man sent a painful punch to my gut, but I returned the favour.
"You're one of us. I can smell the rogue on you. What are you doing on Packland?"
"It's none of your business," I said as I tried to get myself free. I managed to loosen his grip on my hair and free myself. Now I could beat him. He tried attacking, but I dodged every punch. He then shifted, and I shifted too.
The fight intensifies, and the smell of our blood mixing starts to fill the air. He managed to leave a deep gash on my belly, causing me to let out a yelp. This would definitely take a while to heal, but that's when I saw the opening. I had to be smart about my next move. I couldn't kill him; the pack might kill me. They'd say I'm a blood thirsty rogue who's not to be trusted. So I slammed his head against the tree, and he fell unconscious.
I took a few steps back. Aaliyah!! I needed to make sure she was okay.
I ran with all the energy that I had, but I couldn't make it. I was halfway there when I shifted. I could see the lights of the pack house, but it was too much blood. I leaned against the tree and pressed against the wound. My vision started to blur.
"LILY!!" I heard Aaliyah's voice yell.
I mustered up all my strength and called for her. "I'M OVER HER--"
And that was it. That was when it all went black.
