Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Medical Ninja and Fish

Chapter 25: Medical Ninja and Fish

"Hoshikawa," Nonō Yakushi reminded him, "During the surgery, you must be obedient and not run or move around."

"I understand," Hoshikawa nodded.

"Begin," Tsunade walked to the operating table and put on her gloves.

Hoshikawa stood by and watched.

Despite having the soul of an adult, the sight of an open body still made him feel uncomfortable.

Fortunately, he got used to it after watching for a while; at least he didn't throw up on the spot.

Three hours later, the surgery ended.

Ninja world surgeries, to Hoshikawa, felt like a combination of science and ninjutsu.

Simply put, medical ninjutsu was incorporated into the scientific surgical procedures of his past life to save time and enhance effects.

"Hoshikawa, how do you feel?" Tsunade removed her mask, revealing her exquisite face.

"As expected of Tsunade-sama, you effortlessly accomplish what others cannot," Hoshikawa praised.

"You smooth-talking little rascal," Tsunade couldn't help but smile. "I wasn't asking about that."

"I learned a lot," Hoshikawa said truthfully.

"Your mental fortitude is good," Tsunade said as she walked out. "In that regard, you're suited to be a medical ninja."

"Tsunade-sama," Inoichi Yamanaka, who had been waiting outside the door, greeted her.

"He's fine now," Tsunade nodded slightly. "But if you want to read his memories, it's best to wait until tomorrow."

"Thank you, Tsunade-sama," Inoichi Yamanaka exhaled with relief.

"Alright, the surgery's over. Time for me to do my own thing," Tsunade turned and waved, saying, "See you all later."

Not long after, she had vanished.

Hoshikawa couldn't help but sigh. As expected of Tsunade, decisive and very graceful.

But... her "own thing," could it be gambling?

Highly likely.

Hoshikawa suddenly recalled a saying.

Even if she fights, drinks, and gambles, she's still a good ninja.

Hoshikawa glanced at Inoichi Yamanaka, then followed Nonō Yakushi back to her office.

"Hoshikawa," Nonō Yakushi asked, "How's your progress with the medical textbooks?"

"I've pretty much read through the basic medical books," Hoshikawa thought for a moment before replying.

"That's good," Nonō Yakushi pulled out a test paper from her drawer and said, "Finish this within two hours."

Hoshikawa's eyes lit up.

Is she going to teach him medical ninjutsu now?

"Okay," Hoshikawa sat in the office chair and began the test.

He finished in less than two hours.

Basic medical textbooks didn't require much understanding, just rote memorization.

"Not bad," Nonō Yakushi nodded, satisfied.

He'd only gotten two questions wrong on the entire test. For a six-year-old child, that was practically a perfect score.

"Learning medical ninjutsu requires extremely strong chakra control," Nonō Yakushi put away the test paper. "While you've learned it in school, it's far from enough."

"Then what should I do?" Hoshikawa asked, acting like a diligent student.

"Use fish," Nonō Yakushi said softly.

Hoshikawa's expression turned odd. He thought of the nun and the fish.

Though Nonō Yakushi, standing before him, was like a walking priestess.

"Wait for me," Nonō Yakushi turned and left the office.

A few minutes later, she reappeared.

She unrolled a scroll, and inside it was a carp.

"Come here, I'll teach you," Nonō Yakushi waved him over.

Under her guidance, Hoshikawa extended his hands, and chakra surged forth.

He suddenly froze, several lines of text appearing before his eyes.

[D-rank Talent Entry: Medical Ninja.]

[Trigger Condition: Possess three Medical Ninjutsu entries.]

[Current Progress: 10%.]

Hoshikawa couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement.

Finally, a health bar appeared!

As long as there was a health bar, even a god could be killed, let alone a mere medical ninja.

Like the D-rank entry 'Genjutsu Genin,' the trigger condition was learning three ninjutsu.

Although it didn't specify the rank, it was clear that even the simplest ninjutsu, like D-rank and C-rank, would suffice.

Time passed, and it was soon noon.

"Take a break, let's eat," Nonō Yakushi took out two bento boxes.

"Okay," Hoshikawa withdrew his hands and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Although he wasn't outputting much chakra, maintaining it constantly was very taxing.

No wonder learning medical ninjutsu always started with fish.

"You bunch of idiots! Chasing me for blocks over this little money! It's not like I'm not going to pay it back!"

Just then, a familiar, irritable voice echoed from outside the door.

The sound grew closer, and Tsunade walked into the office, grumbling.

"Tsunade-sama," Nonō Yakushi reminded her, "Please don't be so loud in the hospital."

Tsunade plopped down onto the sofa, her thighs quivering slightly as she crossed her legs.

She wore high-heeled sandals, her fair feet suspended in the air, revealing a row of toes painted with red nail polish.

"Lost again?" Nonō Yakushi asked, accustomed to it.

"Just bad luck today," Tsunade pouted, her face annoyed.

"..." Nonō Yakushi remained silent.

Just today?

You have bad luck every day; you're just not suited for gambling.

"Are there any more bentos?" Tsunade asked, looking at the two bento boxes on the coffee table.

"Here," Hoshikawa instinctively handed her the bento box in his hand.

Tsunade was momentarily stunned.

This scene felt familiar.

"I'll go get another," Nonō Yakushi rose and left.

"You eat it," Tsunade reached out and stroked Hoshikawa's head, saying, "I'll wait for Nonō."

Head pat again!

Hoshikawa was furious.

He would definitely get his revenge someday!

"Tsunade-sama," In less than a minute, Nonō Yakushi returned with another bento box.

"Thanks," Tsunade opened the bento box and picked up her chopsticks.

The bento was from the hospital cafeteria; the taste was average, but as a ninja, she wasn't picky.

They often ate worse when on missions.

"Hoshikawa is already learning medical ninjutsu?" Tsunade noticed the scroll and the carp not far away and asked casually.

"Yes," Nonō Yakushi explained, "His fundamentals are already strong enough."

"Quite the little genius, aren't we?" Tsunade's eyes twinkled with a cunning look. "Hoshikawa, if you don't understand anything, you can ask me."

"Tsunade-sama, are you trying to borrow money from me again?" Nonō Yakushi directly saw through her.

"I'll pay you back when I win!" Tsunade wasn't embarrassed about being seen through.

"..." Nonō Yakushi had a very good temper, but even she felt a wave of helplessness now.

Have you ever won?

She highly doubted it.

"Can I go?" Hoshikawa looked up and asked.

"You're a child, you can't go to the casino," Nonō Yakushi quickly said.

If Hoshikawa were led astray, that would be terrible.

Tsunade glanced at him, then suddenly remembered Hashirama Senju.

The source of all gambling.

She had been taken to the casino by Hashirama Senju since she was a child.

"My luck is very good," Hoshikawa thought of a saying from his previous life.

Betting against Tsunade means a villa by the sea.

He really wanted to try.

"No!" Nonō Yakushi firmly disagreed.

Under the table, Tsunade nudged Hoshikawa with her foot and gave him a wink.

She wasn't trying to teach him to gamble; she was treating him as a good luck charm.

What kind of childish behavior is that?

Hoshikawa froze for a moment, then suddenly understood.

She was going to take him with her?
