Chapter 94: Hanekawa and Tsunade's Birthday
Time came to August.
After entering summer, the village of Konoha became a lot hotter.
"I'm heading to the hospital first. See you all tomorrow."
Hanekawa said goodbye to Asuma Sarutobi and the others at the intersection.
After he left, Kurenai Yūhi, who had left a step earlier to go to Kosuke Maruboshi's house, reappeared.
"Kurenai, are you sure today is Hanekawa's birthday?"
Asuma Sarutobi asked.
"Of course!"
Kurenai's chin slightly lifted, and she said with a proud look, "Nobody knows Hanekawa better than me!"
Asuma was suddenly fed a mouthful of dog food and immediately regretted asking that question.
This is tough, old Asuma!
Obito Uchiha had a face that looked like he wanted to escape but couldn't.
He didn't want to stay and celebrate Hanekawa's birthday, but for Rin Nohara's sake, he had no choice but to stay.
"Let's go."
Rin looked at Kurenai, suppressed the envy in her heart, and turned to walk towards the commercial street of Konoha Village.
"What are you guys going to get?"
Might Guy scratched his head and said, "I don't know what to get."
He had thought of getting green tights, but he had already given him a pair before, so there was no need to repeat it.
"A book."
Kakashi Hatake had already thought it through and explained, "Hanekawa loves reading books in class."
"Then I'll get that too!"
Might Guy's eyes lit up and he said.
"Getting the same gift isn't a good idea."
Kakashi shook his head and said.
"Ah? Is that so?"
Might Guy was immediately lost.
"It's fine, we'll talk about it when we get there."
Kakashi looked at him scratching his head and ears, and suggested.
"Rin, what do you want to buy?"
Obito suddenly had an idea and said, "I can help you pay for it."
If he paid for it, that meant it was his gift.
Did Rin give a gift? Yes.
"No."
Rin refused without a second thought, saying, "How can I let you pay?"
"Then let's just go to the gift shop and pick something out."
Obito quickly said.
"Birthdays only happen once a year, so we can't be so careless."
Rin looked at him and said seriously, "Besides, Hanekawa helps us a lot on a regular basis."
Obito nodded reluctantly.
He knew if he objected again, Rin would definitely get angry.
"Kurenai, what are you planning to buy?"
Shisui Uchiha spoke at the right time, interrupting the conversation between the two of them.
"I'm buying clothes!"
Kurenai's face was all smiles, "I saw a kimono before, and Hanekawa would definitely look great in it!"
As expected, they were very close.
Rin pursed her lips.
Even if she wanted to buy clothes, she didn't know Hanekawa's size.
"I'm thinking of buying a set of medical ninja tools, I wonder if he'd like that?"
Shisui consulted with Kurenai.
"He'll like it."
Kurenai thought for a moment and said, "And since he often goes to Konoha Hospital, he'll definitely use them."
"That's good."
Shisui looked around and said, "I'll go to the ninja tool store first. We'll meet up outside Lady Tsunade's house in an hour."
Everyone nodded and watched him leave.
"Here's the bookstore."
Kakashi noticed the Konoha Knowledge Bookstore not far away and said, "See you later."
He walked straight in.
As soon as he entered, his eyelids couldn't help but twitch.
There was a huge poster pasted on the door.
"The best-selling novel 'Black Beast' by the popular novelist Raikage is getting a manga adaptation next month. Welcome to pre-order!"
Besides this line of text, there were two elven ladies with pointy ears. One of them was even a dark elf.
Kakashi was unconsciously drawn in.
It was the first time he had ever seen an elf with such a foreign, non-human look.
Of course, the most important thing was that they were dressed a little too scantily, which made his mouth feel dry.
Especially the dark elf, she was super hot!
"Little one, you can't buy this if you're a minor."
Just then, a young female employee of the Konoha Bookstore came up to him.
Kakashi's heart skipped a beat.
So, this was a book for adults.
An endless curiosity rose in his heart, but he ultimately suppressed it.
"Little one, what book do you want to buy?"
The young woman asked with a smile, "Tell me what you're looking for, and I can recommend something."
"I want to give a book to a friend for his birthday. He just turned ten."
Kakashi answered honestly.
"Is he a student at the Ninja Academy?"
The young woman noticed the ninja sword on Kakashi's back and asked.
"Mhm."
Kakashi nodded.
"I have a book here that he should like."
The young woman turned around and, after a while, took out a book. "'The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi' by Lord Jiraiya."
"Is that Jiraiya, one of the Legendary Sannin?"
Kakashi asked with a surprised tone.
"That's right, it's him."
The young woman said with a smile, "Many ninjas love this book, you know."
"Then I'll get this one!"
Kakashi didn't hesitate and bought the book.
The young woman's smile became even more radiant.
Another one of her backlogged books was finally sold.
But she didn't lie; she just omitted half a sentence.
The truth was, besides a few ninjas, no one else bought this book. The sales were so poor that a single print run wasn't even sold out.
However, Jiraiya's second novel, 'Icha Icha Paradise,' was not bad, although it was suspected of imitating Raikage.
The remaining three people arrived at the front of the gift shop.
They were Rin Nohara, Obito Uchiha, and Might Guy.
Kurenai had gone to the clothing store since she wanted to buy clothes.
Asuma Sarutobi was being secretive and didn't say what he was getting but also didn't go with them; he had just left.
"Rin, what are you buying? I'll use it as a reference."
Obito suddenly remembered that Rin hadn't said what she was buying earlier.
"A pen."
Rin didn't hide it and said.
She often asked Hanekawa for guidance, and sometimes when he answered her questions, he would write it down.
Besides, as a student, a pen was essential.
"I see."
Obito secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
A pen sounded pretty ordinary and not too intimate.
"Then I'll get a notebook!"
Obito said excitedly.
Because a notebook and a pen go together.
"Mhm."
Rin nodded slightly and walked into the stationery store next door.
Obito quickly followed.
"Wow! So many gifts!"
As soon as Might Guy walked into the gift shop, he couldn't help but exclaim in admiration.
He didn't have many friends, and Kakashi didn't really care about gifts. This time, he only came because he happened to hear that it was Hanekawa's birthday.
For him, this was the first time he had ever gone to a gift shop.
"Hello."
The employee walked over and asked, "Can I help you find something?"
"Do you have any gifts that are very 'youthful'?"
Might Guy asked with an excited look.
"Youthful?"
The employee was deep in thought for a moment and soon came back with a bunch of cherry blossom-themed gifts and said, "All these gifts are suitable for a girlfriend."
"Huh?"
Might Guy was stunned for a moment and quickly said, "It's not for a girlfriend."
"???"
The employee's eyes widened, and she asked in disbelief, "A boy-boyfriend?"
"No, it's for my classmate's birthday."
Might Guy looked at her with a puzzled face.
He didn't quite understand why the employee was reacting so strongly.
"I recommend sports equipment."
The employee held back her urge to complain, kept a smile on her face, and said.
"That's a great idea!"
Might Guy's eyes lit up and he said, "I can have a youthful sports showdown with Hanekawa!"
Is there something wrong with your idea of 'youth'?
The employee finally couldn't hold back her complaints in her mind.
After looking through a bunch of stuff, Guy bought a tennis racket.
An hour later, everyone who had finished buying their gifts gathered at the training ground outside Tsunade's house.
Since Hanekawa hadn't come back yet, they weren't in a hurry and continued to train.
They didn't stop until Tsunade came home carrying a large cake and entered the living room.
"That kid sure is popular."
Tsunade smiled as she watched everyone hide behind the sofa.
Just yesterday, they had come to her, saying they wanted to give Hanekawa a birthday surprise.
Tsunade naturally wouldn't refuse, so she agreed to help them.
Night fell.
Hanekawa left Konoha Hospital.
He was a little busier than usual today and had to do one more surgery, so he was late.
"I bet the teacher is hungry again."
Hanekawa couldn't help but smile and quickened his pace.
After almost four years with Tsunade, he was used to feeding her every day.
"She's not back yet?"
Hanekawa was a little surprised to see that the lights in the house weren't on.
However, Tsunade coming home late because of gambling had happened a few times before.
Hanekawa took out his key and opened the door.
He suddenly raised an eyebrow, a look of alertness appearing on his face.
Just then, the lights came on.
But not the ceiling light, the candles.
"Happy Birthday, Hanekawa!"
Kurenai and Rin and the others were gathered around a cake and all shouted in unison.
"Thank you."
Hanekawa was stunned for a moment, and his heart warmed. A smile appeared on his face.
"Make a wish and blow out the candles."
Tsunade smiled and said.
She was happy to see this scene. It reminded her of Hashirama's ideal.
Maybe Hanekawa could achieve it after he became Hokage.
"Mhm."
Hanekawa walked over, clasped his hands together, made a wish, and blew hard, extinguishing the candles.
"Eat the cake first."
Tsunade, who was rarely diligent, took out a knife, sliced the cake, and distributed it to them.
After the cake was eaten, it was time to give presents.
"Hanekawa."
Kurenai took out an exquisite gift box and instructed, "Open this when you get home."
She wanted to see Hanekawa try on the new clothes with her own eyes.
"Okay."
Hanekawa looked at it curiously and put it away.
"Let's have a tennis match tomorrow!"
Might Guy took out a tennis racket and said with a lot of excitement.
"Thank you."
Hanekawa's mouth twitched.
Did you buy this gift for yourself?
"Here you go."
Kakashi took out a book.
Hanekawa looked at 'The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi' and was speechless.
He had already flipped through this novel by Jiraiya a long time ago, but from a modern person's perspective, the writing was very hard to read.
"Hanekawa, thank you for all your guidance."
Rin said with a serious look.
"And here's my gift."
Obito didn't wait for Hanekawa to answer Rin and just shoved his gift over.
Finally, it was Asuma's turn. He didn't say much, only that Hanekawa would be very satisfied.
Because most of the gifts were wrapped in gift boxes, Hanekawa didn't know what they were.
Shisui, however, didn't use a gift box and gave him a set of medical ninja tools.
"See you tomorrow."
An hour later, the birthday party was over, and everyone said their goodbyes and left.
"Your friends are all very nice."
Tsunade smiled and said.
"They really are."
Hanekawa said as he tidied up the table.
"What did you wish for this year?"
Tsunade asked with her arms crossed, "Please don't tell me it's the same one as last year."
"You guessed right, but there's no prize."
Hanekawa raised an eyebrow and said.
"The same wish every year? Is that even a wish anymore?"
Tsunade rolled her eyes and said, "That's a curse."
"A curse that comes true is not bad, right?"
Hanekawa said nonchalantly.
"You really want me to be Hokage that badly?"
Tsunade asked, confused.
"If you become Hokage, I can walk sideways in Konoha Village, and no one would dare to mess with me!"
Hanekawa cleared his throat and said.
"You're dreaming!"
Tsunade heard that, lifted her hand, and flicked his forehead.
"Huh? Is it not possible?"
Hanekawa blinked and asked.
"You just wait!"
Tsunade stood up, speechless, and said, "It depends on my mood!"
"Teacher."
Hanekawa conjured a gift box and said, "Happy Birthday."
Tsunade's expression softened.
She took the gift box and said, "I didn't prepare a gift, so this will have to do."
Tsunade bent down and kissed him on the cheek.
"Soft?"
Hanekawa was caught off guard by her sudden attack.
He only reacted after she left, revealing a look of regret.
It was too fast! He didn't even have a chance to fight back!
It was simply infuriating!
But the only good news was that this time it wasn't his forehead, so nothing bad would probably happen.
Hanekawa finished washing the dishes and reappeared in the living room.
He sat across from Tsunade and took out all the gift boxes.
Unboxing was undoubtedly a fun thing to do.
Especially when it was a blind box, that was double the fun.
"Remember to take the day off tomorrow."
Tsunade suddenly remembered something and said.
"Take a day off?"
Hanekawa opened Rin's gift box and asked, "Is there a new mission?"
Tsunade explained, "The Anbu just came to inform me that the old man wants to assign a mission to me."
There are two ways for a ninja to get a mission.
One is to go to the mission hall and choose one yourself.
The other is to be assigned one by the higher-ups of Konoha, especially the Hokage.
The latter is generally impossible to refuse.
"The Anbu didn't say what the mission was specifically."
Tsunade said nonchalantly, "Since it's your birthday, I wasn't in a hurry to go see the old man."
"A mission for you, it's probably not suitable for me, is it?"
Hanekawa looked at Rin's gift. Besides a pen, there was also a sachet.
"We'll see what it is tomorrow."
Tsunade nodded slightly and said, "If it's too difficult, we'll refuse."
"Teacher, aren't you afraid of the Hokage getting angry?"
Hanekawa couldn't help but laugh.
"He can do whatever he wants."
Tsunade said righteously, "Jiraiya is out and about all the time, and he doesn't do anything about it."
"The teacher is right!"
Hanekawa echoed.
He finally understood why Hiruzen Sarutobi didn't have much authority over Tsunade.
Besides his own personality, the main reason was that he didn't establish himself as a Hokage and a teacher.
A crooked top beam will result in a crooked lower beam. This was probably what it meant.
