Chapter 4 - First Spark of Power

Two rings of electric blue light burst from his waist, spinning outward and covering his whole body. Unlike anything Kael had seen in the shows, his transformation caused streaks of silver to ripple through the rings, distorting the air like broken mirrors.

Everything around him seemed to have slowed down. The ticking clock almost looked frozen mid-swing. Even the flickering sunlight seemed to have come to a standstill.

His body glowed as the transformation overtook him — his hair darkened, and his eyes turned from gray to electric blue. His reflection in the nearby window no longer showed a fragile teenage boy, but something far more imposing. His form shifted into a sleek, jet-black suit traced with silver lines that pulsed faintly like circuits. A faintly glowing emblem appeared on his chest — a spiral clock engulfed in blue fire. Around him, an aura flared like ghostly fire, rippling with silver energy, leaving the air trembling.

Kael barely had time to process all this before his hand phased through the desk instinctively, his body flickered invisible, and a wild bolt of blue-silver energy burst from his palm, nearly scorching the wall. Kael was shocked as the world around him seemed to slow down — dust froze, the ticking clock dragged, and he could sense footsteps nearing the door before they arrived.

Kael's eyes widened. He forced himself back to human form just as the door opened. The housekeeper stepped in cautiously, carrying a tray."Master Kael? I thought I heard something…"

Kael became nervous but managed a tired smile. "I just dropped something. Nothing to worry about."

The housekeeper nodded, placing the tray on the table before leaving quietly. Only when the door clicked shut did Kael exhale, staring at his still-glowing hands."So it's real," he whispered. "I can feel… ghostly power within myself."

Kael sat on the bed, trying to catch his breath. His body still tingled from the experience of transformation. He could feel his form slipping through solid objects, disappearing from sight, and floating a few inches above the ground. But beyond the strange new strength, there was something deeper—a warm, electric sensation coursing through him, the ghost flame itself. The blue-silver energy moved around his body like living fire, bursting with power he could almost control.

At the same time, the world around him felt different. Tiny things moved slower, dust hung in the air, and the ticking clock seemed to drag. He had sensed the footsteps of the housekeeper approaching before she even arrived. It was subtle but instinctive. Kael realized he could feel distortions in time itself. Excitement and fear churned together in his chest. This wasn't just strength or flight like in the superhero shows he had loved—it was something far stronger, something alive, and something he would have to learn to control.

Then he thought about something, the power he felt within himself. He definitely felt the fire and time-related power in his ghostly form. Kael thought about this for some time and came to the conclusion that, because of the fire that erupted when he was in the portal and because of his time travelling, which happened in that moment, he may have gained these powers from that incident. His aura was also different from Danny's. Danny had a green aura, whereas he had an electric blue aura around him. The symbol of a clock engulfed in blue fire in his transformed form further verified his time and fire-related powers. In the series, Danny had ghostly wail, frost, and other core-related powers, whereas Kael had unique power himself thanks to his crossing.

"I have got a good start, I suppose. Now, I need to sort all the information and memories of both lives to better prepare myself. But first, let me eat something." He then proceeded to eat the food left by the housekeeper. After eating and taking some rest, he again switched to his ghost form. The cold feeling still left him in awe. Kael then bravely took his first step and went outside his two-storey house by being intangible and flying, barely managing to keep his balance. He saw the majestic scene from a bird's-eye view. Kael's family lived opposite the direction of the Fenton family, which was in the downtown area as shown in the series. His house was situated in the suburbs. Because his parents liked peace and quiet to do research work, they had chosen this place.

"Well, the house location is best for me. I can do my work and train and research ghost stuff without being disturbed much." In the Amity Park suburb area, the forest was nearby his mansion. The graveyard was not far from this area either. On one side, there was the Amity Park river, and on the other side, there was the industrial zone. "The industry is okay, but both forest and river can cause ghostly troubles. As seen from the original show, forest and river, especially the forest closer to my house, seem to harbor ghosts who cause troubles for people going there and also in the nearby areas." He still felt unreal with all this happening but steeled his resolve to do his best in his current situation.

Kael went to his room and transformed back to his human form as it was troubling to maintain the ghost form for much time. He also verified his core ghost powers: invisibility, intangibility, flight, and some other power which he could not touch upon yet but could feel it. "Power needs to be controlled and mastered as soon as possible. There are so many strong ghosts, known and unknown, in the Ghost Zone. There are human hunters also out there. People like Vlad Plasmius are also a threat," said Kael. All this information gave him a headache.

"Ugh, I will leave that for some time later. I haven't even properly seen the mansion yet." Kael said this and went outside his room to tour the mansion. His footsteps echoed through the wooden floor beneath him. Sunlight came through the tall windows. Neatly stacked books lined the walls, showing his parents' meticulous taste in every corner. Down the hall, scientific equipment was stored neatly. Gadgets unknown to him but ghostly in nature were stored on one side, showing his parents' ongoing ghost research before their death.

He passed the guest room, its tidy and warm atmosphere untouched yet inviting, a manifestation of his family's orderly nature. Kael went to the library tucked into the corner of the hall, its shelves almost reaching the ceiling. Science, history, arcane, and even a newly found section of ghost history books filled the space. The ground floor had a spacious yet modest living area with simple furniture and neatly dotted walls with framed notes and diagrams. They contained proof of research conducted there.

As Kael moved toward the basement, a sense of curiosity and caution mixed inside him. He knew that inside that room was not only the shelter his parents had built for emergencies but also the prototype portal and secret lab for ghost studies. For the first time after being reborn, Kael felt the weight of the house around him—a quiet mix of home and something extraordinary waiting just below.
