After A While
Virgil has had a wonderful two days relationship with this
beautiful girl but he had a feeling something was not right, they
had been together all the time since the first day he's been
noticing some behaviors.
She keeps away from him sometimes, he never read any
meaning into it maybe she just wanted some space for a while it's
normal for a person but she avoided him coming to get her in her
class and always came to him instead even if he does find a way
to get her there, she wouldn't be as free with him as she would if
they were alone or if she came looking for him.
She wouldn't turn him down totally but would shy away from
him, this happened for third day and Virgil tried his best not to
overthink it he was somewhat of a weakling emotionally and an
over-thinker. His mind always told him there was a classmate
she was probably dating behind his back but he tried his very best
not to judge or insult her like that.
They departed like that for the day, the next day it was the
same behavior and she stopped coming to find him in his class, he
began feeling distant from her, they hardly spent any time
together that day. Virgil could tell there was something brewing
but he reassured himself she would explain everything to him in
time.
By the end of the day, Anna found him in his class and just
stood by the door avoiding to enter into the classroom, signaling
him that she wanted to talk. This behavior surprised his
classmates who began wondering what he had done to get her to
behave in such a way, and he also wondered the same thing.
Meeting her atop their school stairway, he approached a
slightly serious atmosphere, he wondered what was going on and
she began her talk "I'm sure you've been wondering I've been
behaving a little strange to you lately…"It was no surprise that he would answer yes to that and she
wasn't bold enough to look him in the eye at first, Virgil began
asking what he did wrong patently blaming himself for an error
that he thought was there but wasn't. She stops him telling him
he's not at fault she looks at him and he could tell what she was
going to say next.
"I think we should stop this…" he wasn't confused he just
asked for the sake of asking because that was the only response
his brain could produce at that very moment "We should stop?..
stop what?.." she looks at him and it tells must I spell it out.
Telling him they should end the relationship and just stay friends,
he pesters her for a reason but she refused to give one, only
telling him there was none but he knew that was a bold lie.
He respected her enough to leave it at that but he wasn't
ready to leave her but he couldn't do anything after all she was
entitled to her choices, she's still showing her concern asking if
he was okay with that and he says to her he was fine, thinking
maybe she can walk him back to class but he was alright.
He just wanted to sit for there for the time being, Anna
walks away and leaves him there, Virgil sits for some seconds
holding back his pain and tears, putting himself together and goes
to class. He manages the day and goes home, hides it well from
everyone else but his sister notices but he plays the "I'm fine" role.
Late that night, while everyone else slept Virgil stayed up
and couldn't sleep thinking back on all the harsh words he heard
while growing up and all the mistakes he's made as well and how
he liked a girl and in a few days she dumped him and how he
messed up and caused it.
Virgil cried his soul out that night, only loud enough to stop
at the door of his room so not to attract attention that night, he
had cried for two hours on a stretch, the pain, the insults, and
now this heartache all rushing in and flooding his thinking.
Virgil wept uncontrollably until his sister woke up and found him,
he still denied at told her to go to bed, still with pain in his heart
he stayed up until he finally dozed off and slept.
