Chapter 22 - TOA 22: An Existence Unrecorded by the World

Apollo, the Sun God... in Morpheus' understanding, the true Apollo was originally the God of Light, and secondarily the God of Music, but not the Sun God.

However, as tales of the original Sun God faded and Apollo's prominence grew, he eventually claimed the role of Sun God as well.

After all, to people, a familiar God of Light bringing forth sunlight made it natural to associate him with the Sun God's position.

But this didn't hold in the Nasuverse.

Apollo was the Sun God, a role derived from his function as a starship, acknowledged directly by humans after his descent to Earth.

At least, that's what the people of Greece acknowledged.

According to the Greek mythology Morpheus knew, the first-generation God-King Uranus and Gaia gave birth to the second-generation God-King Cronus, along with his siblings, including Hyperion.

Cronus and his wife Rhea then bore Zeus, while Hyperion and his wife produced Helios.

Zeus became the God-King, and Helios was the Sun God.

But here, neither Uranus nor Helios existed. From the beginning, starting with the creation god Chaos... corresponding to a starship... the fleet that emerged was Cronus.

Later, Cronus clashed with the subsequent Zeus-line starships, with Zeus ultimately defeating the Cronus fleet.

Thus, the Sun God here had always been Apollo.

As in myth, even in Nasuverse, Apollo possessed the authority of prophecy. At this moment, he was smiling at Morpheus, his eyes tinged with a hint of apology.

Seeing that apology, Morpheus sensed that something had gone wrong in the battle against the giants, and it was likely related to him.

"Thank you for everything you've done for this world," Apollo said, expressing his gratitude once more.

Morpheus shook his head. "You've already thanked me, Lord Apollo. Besides, I have my own goals."

Apollo sighed. "I know your goals, but they cannot be achieved…"

Morpheus blinked. "What do you mean?"

"Haven't you noticed something strange? With the God-King's authority, his blessing should have made your body immensely powerful... not on par with Heracles, but far beyond your original self.

"If I had to put it in perspective, the physical enhancement you received, or rather all the blessings bestowed upon you, should have their effects amplified by two or three times, perhaps even five or six times!"

Morpheus frowned slightly. "Why is that? When I use magecraft myself, I haven't encountered such issues… I mean, not when using my own magic, but when reinforcing myself with magus techniques, there's no reduction in effect."

Morpheus' talent was remarkable, with an extraordinary aptitude for magecraft. He wielded Celtic spells with ease, or else his adoptive father wouldn't have nagged him constantly to study it.

"Your body is too unique. The gods' blessings are tied to the Root. To use a data and mechanical analogy, it's like embedding that data into your fundamental settings, recording your enhanced body and other attributes within the Root to make them permanently stable.

"But you're like a peculiar existence, unable to be fully recorded in the Root. The 'you' within the Root is like a false entity, an unidentifiable existence... or rather, only half of you, perhaps less than half, maybe a quarter, is recorded."

Listening to this somewhat convoluted explanation, Morpheus understood instantly. "I'm being rejected by the Root?!"

"You could say that. You're indeed rejected by the Root, like a foreign entity, out of place in this world. Because of this, the history you're part of will be difficult to manifest or be known in the future!"

Morpheus pursed his lips, expressing his dissatisfaction.

Seeing Morpheus merely protest with such a simple gesture, without further action, Apollo smiled.

"But you can rest assured. While you can't be fully recorded, the girl you brought with you will be. She has earned merits, and those merits will naturally become her own strength in the future."

"That's good. I don't care much about being recorded myself. As long as she benefits, I'm fine."

Apollo raised his hand gently. "I will grant her the ability to record everything and never forget. I believe this will aid her in the future."

Morpheus hadn't expected Apollo to be so generous... not only clarifying the conflict between him and the Root but also bestowing a blessing on Medea. Perfect memory? That ability was practically cheat!

"Was all this gleaned through your prophetic authority?"

"My prophetic authority, combined with my close connection to the Root, allows me to discern these things. Both are necessary."

Apollo leaned closer to Morpheus, lowering his voice. "But even with my prophetic authority, I can't foresee everything. In fact, it was because of your arrival that I saw certain things."

"Because of my arrival?"

"Yes, regarding my sister. Without you, I wouldn't have seen that future... my sister being whisked away by some mortal!" Apollo's tone grew heated.
