Chapter 4 - Learning about Mana Paths

Dawn rise the birds sing and my body feels refreshed, as I wake up I remember everything that happened yesterday I can now not only see the mana but I feel it's gentle embrace as it coats and enters my body out of curiosity I close my palm and open it but nothing happens.

"Hmmm how did i do that yesterday? Dad said something about using imagination to cast spells and chanting?"

While sitting on my bed I close my plam again and I imagine the mana collecting and getting warmer while thinking of a soft ball of fire, as I think this i see the mana gather into my palm and change colour not as quickly as mothers, I feel it's soft caress get stronger and I flick my palm open.

With a Whoosh a blue ball of fire appears in my hand and gently lights up the room, it's then I realise I do they know how to stop the spell in a panic I yell.

"DAD, MOM Help me!!!"

A sound of plates being dropped can be heard and hurried footsteps coming towards my room can be heard and with a bang the door slams open my mother looking worried stares at me and then the Fire orb

"What's wrong Ra Ra?"

Mother says not seeing what's caused me to panic I point at the fire orb.

"How stop it?"

Merlara looks at the fire orb and then back to me before remembering that yesterday they had distracted him from his first spell and never taught him how to disengage it.

"Oh dear, close your hand while think of the light going out"

I sit stunned is it that simple? I close my palm thinking of the fire going out like leaving only smoke disappearing in the wind and with a soft poof the orb turned into blue smoke and disappeared or to be exact in my vision it merged back with the natural floaty mist like mana.

"Huh smoke that's a different way to do it but we'll done know go wash your face and hands and come to breakfast and dad's not here for the next few days he has work with the guild to do"

*Work with the Guild what guild?*

It was then that memories of past flashed to my parents do work to support their families how could I forget that.

Anyway I do as mother says and soon im climbing into my chair at the table to have breakfast with mom, while eating mother tells me that she will be teaching about the Path that Mana users take to which ask.

"About key path?"

Mother looks at me before replying that the Qi path is very different to Mana path but both have similar end goals which is becoming the strongest and that all things reach limits along both paths.

"Ok when Learn?"

Merlara sighs like father like son so eager.

"After breakfast I will tell you about Mana path and after lunch we will do Qi Path"

I nod my head and start to finish breakfast when it's done I take my bowl to the wash basin in the kitchen and return to my seat.

"I ready"

Mother smiles and shake her head before she gets a book from the shelf in the other room and when she sits down she begins to read allowed from the book.

"The Path of a Mana user starts from the sensing of Mana a form of Energy that encompasses all things upon success of sensing mana one must learn to freely move it within there body some find this is to do while others struggle this is called the Mana channeling stage"

Mother looks up from reading at me and asks.

"Are you able to move the mana in your body anywhere else Ra Ra or just into your left hand?"

I think for a bit and pull mana into my body and try moving it as I do i feel it smoothly flow from my chest to my left arm and I focus on moving it into other parts of my body and find it just as easy although it tickles a little when I place it in my toes?

"Yeah it feels like when water runs over my body during bath time"

Merlara chuckles at that before continuing to read.

"After becoming adapt at Mana Chaneling the Mana moves onto the next stage visualisation and chanting by doing this they learn how to focus the mana to cast spells, for some people chanting is required due to lack of visualisation and it is also easy for training children upon doing this sometimes a child or trainee well successfully cast a spell at this point they can be considered a Beginner Mage. Most Beginners are between ages 3 to 8 with those at a younger age being my talented or naturally inclined towards welding magic."

"More please Mom"

Merlara looks at her son eagerly absorbing this information with no looks of bored and thinks back to her childhood were she found studying boring.

"After becoming a beginner mage the child is encouraged to cast spells often to the point of tiredness for the until they are 10 years old as this helps towards building a stronger mana pool it seems that after hitting 10 years old the mana pool can not be increased through mana exhaustion"

Upon hearing this Nathraval starts casting Light Orb on and off before his mother tells him to stop.

"Stop dear i know your eager to learn but save that for tomorrow or you won't have enough energy to remain awake"

I sulk slightly but stop, thinking about how I need to know more about this path and about the Qi path.

"Sorry"

"That's alright now where was i, oh yes mana pools ok now mana pools are used to acknowledge the total amount of mana you can use before tiring out a larger mana pool is better with tier 9 mana pools being recognised as the largest to date. Your mana pool also grows as you do so while as a child you may only have enough mana to cast light orb about 10 times when your 6 you would be able to cast it as many as 100 times in a row. Most beings are born with a tear 1 mana pool. Hmm let me grab something to give you a better understanding of mana pools"

With that said mother got up went into the kitchen and picked up a earthen jar bring it back to the table she opened it up and pulled out a handful of little brown objects.

"This is rice dear don't eat it raw now if I place this here like so that is a tier 1 mana pool"

I looked at the brown rice piled on the table and nodded my head to which my mother pulled out another pile of rice and placed it next to it but instead she placed 5 hand fulls down leaving a big pile.

"This amount would be a tier 2 mana pool"

I looked surprised that's a big increase no wonder they teach children at a younger age to use all there mana everyday to boost there mana pool

"Mom how big 9?"

Mother sighed then pointed at the earthen jar in her hand and said

"about this much maybe more"

I was gob smacked that earthen jar had enough space for at least 100 handfuls while I stared mother put the handfuls back into the jar and placed it to the side before continuing to read.

"After the age of ten the Beginner mage would become a Adapt Mage and either go into tutelage of either a school or private parsonage for further training learning a variety of spells and styles until they turned 18 at which point they would seek employment either in the field of magecraft or returning to their hometowns to settle down as not all are meant for the Mana path and hit roadblocks along the way."

Merlara looks at her son and closes the book and reaches out with her hand.

"Let's go outside for a bit so you dont go stiff sitting there next part can be experienced better with a stroll"

I take her hand while being a bit confused at how a walk will help but I could see all this speaking was tiring mother.
