Chapter 40 - 40: Ariadne's Insistence

The throne room buzzed with malicious sneers and thinly veiled jabs, lips curled in retaliation to insults flung like knives. Even Ariadne had lost her usual quiet decorum, she argued back and forth with the elders, all of them riled because of the boy.

"Your argument holds no ground! How could the boy kill the servants and then himself?" Ariadne snapped, her eyes flicking to Elder Velric, who had suggested the boy killed himself to escape what awaited him if he failed the selection.

"A silver-coated dagger was found beside him. House Altheron has none of that. Where could he possibly have found it?"

"His attack needs to be investigated! The mastermind must be…" she continued before another voice rose above hers.

"There would be no time for that, the boy is a..."

I cut him off with a raised hand.
