Council meetings. Meetings with the elders. Meetings with the pack. Private meetings with Ariadne. And oh did I forget the meetings with the boy she'd arranged and plotted behind my back?
There was no end to it. This time I was heading for a meeting with my pack for a matter that had been strictly banned.
The crowd fell silent the second I stepped onto the dais at the far end of the pack's square. Expectant faces turned toward me, gathered to witness the punishment.
Reports had come in about two wolves who were found desecrating the pack. Their betrayal was reported by a mother, who'd taken the coin reward for naming her son and leading my men to where they'd be caught red handed.
That was the kind of alpha I was. Twisted, you might call it. Dark. Yet if it served my goals and kept the pack running, if it helped root out the rotten furs hiding among my people, then I didn't mind, even when the betrayal came from a family of the accused.
