Chapter 15 - prove innocence

"Hmph, Dr. Li, you don't need to waste your time arguing with this useless person," Jackson sneered as he sent Eric away.

"Daisy, you finally came," Xenia, Jackson's mother, said coldly.

"You didn't even care about your grandfather's illness," she added.

"Not everyone can afford to hire famous doctors like Jackson who spend millions on medical treatment. As far as I'm concerned, he's the only one fit to inherit the family business," Daisy retorted.

"Of course, unlike some people who not only stole our contract but also tried to take it back by any means necessary," James Family's young heirs chimed in, their words dripping with sarcasm. Even Third Master James frowned, showing his disdain and disgust.

He had clearly stated that he would cooperate with Jackson and take over the Visionary Company's contract. However, Daisy had found a way to take it back without his involvement. Although the contract was signed by the Visionary Company, he couldn't believe that Daisy had nothing to do with it.

"Grandfather, it's not what you think," Daisy's face was stiff as she tried to explain. She never expected Jackson to be so deceitful.

"Heh, do you still want to say that you got the support of the Visionary Company because of your brilliant plan?" Jackson interrupted her. "Everyone can see that my plan was better, and besides, most of your team has already left!"

"That's why Daisy must have used some underhanded means, maybe even selling her body, to get the contract back," he added, clearly trying to shift the blame onto Daisy and vent his anger at losing the contract.

The young heirs of the James Family, who were standing in the ward, also found his words reasonable. If Daisy hadn't used any means, how could she have been appointed as the person in charge by the Visionary Company? After all, it wasn't her own company.

"Daisy, do you know that by doing this, you are bringing shame to our James Family?"

"That's right. You usually pretend to be pure and innocent, but for the sake of a contract, you are willing to do anything. How is this any different from those women outside selling themselves?"

"You're a useless person. I almost feel sorry for you. Not only are you living off someone else's money, but now you've also been cheated on. If I were you, I'd just die. Hahaha..."

Several young members of the James Family taunted Daisy mercilessly, their voices piercingly harsh.

Daisy was so angry that she cried out, "I didn't do it at all. How dare you accuse me?"

"No? Hmph, who would admit to doing something like this?" Jackson sneered.

"Daisy, what's going on here? You'd better explain it to me now!" Third Master James's voice was icy.

He was most disgusted by this kind of tarnished reputation. If Daisy really did it, he would definitely expel her from the James Family!

"Grandpa, I really didn't do it. Please believe me!" Daisy blushed and said, "Even if the contract was taken away from me, I would never do such a thing!"

"Then how did you manage to become the person in charge designated by Visionary Company?" Jackson was still skeptical.

He was also wondering what could have caused President Forrest to appoint Daisy as the person in charge. "It was me."

The finger was pointed at him, and Grant stepped forward, standing in front of Daisy.

"You?"

"Hahaha..."

When Grant spoke up, the crowd burst into laughter. Jackson pointed at Grant and said, "Daisy, if you're going to make excuses, at least find a more credible one. You're saying that Visionary Company appointed you as the head because of Grant's connections?"

"Everyone knows that Grant is a useless waste of space. He stays at home all day and only knows how to do laundry and cook. How could someone like him have any connection with Visionary Company?"

"You said he's a security guard for Visionary Company, and I believe that. But to say he has connections with them is just ridiculous."

The laughter continued, and Daisy's attempt to shift the blame onto Grant was met with ridicule.

"Today's contract was assigned by President Forrest, right? If you don't believe me, I'll call him right now," Grant said, taking out his phone with a cold tone.

Seeing Daisy crying under the attack of the crowd, Grant couldn't bear it.

"Waste of space, be careful not to get slapped in the face!" Jackson sneered.

Grant glanced at him expressionlessly and dialed President Forrest's number.

When they saw that Grant was really making the call, the crowd fell silent. Even Daisy stopped crying and looked at Grant's phone with tears in her eyes. She also wanted to know if Grant's friend was real or fake.

"Hello, who is this?" A voice came through the phone quickly.

"It's really President Forrest's voice," Jackson remembered the voice from their conversation earlier, even though he was rejected. "But, President Forrest, do you know him?"

"Oh, Brother Morgan. What can I do for you?" The voice on the other end was warm and enthusiastic.

"Enough, Xenia." Grant's voice was calm but firm. "I never intended to undermine the James Family's authority. I simply wanted to clarify any misunderstandings regarding the contract. And now that we have cleared things up, I hope we can move forward with a more positive and cooperative attitude."

There was a moment of silence before Third Master James spoke up. "I apologize for any accusations or misunderstandings on our part. We appreciate your clarification, Grant. And we look forward to working with Daisy as the designated person in charge of the contract."

Grant nodded. "Thank you for your understanding. And please know that I have no intention of causing any trouble for President Forrest or his wife. I hope we can all put this behind us and focus on the task at hand."

With that, the call ended and the tension in the hospital room dissipated. Jackson rubbed his sore cheek and sighed in relief. It seemed that Grant had managed to diffuse the situation, for now at least.

"We did slander Daisy, but that was when we didn't know the truth," said one person.

"But what about you?" asked another. "You took away our contract. If outsiders find out, they'll think that James Family is inferior to you!" said a third person, Jackson, coldly.

"You've violated the family rules by taking away business from a family member," he added.

"Yes," agreed the others, turning to Grant and accusing him of ill intentions.

"I didn't do that," Daisy tried to speak up, but faced with the dozen or so people shouting at her, she felt powerless.

"Enough!" said Third Master James, his face cold with disgust. "Since you were able to be selected by Visionary Company, you must have some exceptional qualities. From now on, James Family will only provide half of the resources and support to you. You will have to develop your own company on your own."

"Grandfather..." Daisy's face turned as pale as paper.

Although her company was impressive, it was only possible with the support of James Family. Without them, even with the contract from Visionary Company, it would be difficult to sustain her business. After all, James Family's resources and connections were crucial.

"Hehe, grandfather has given you a chance to develop independently. Aren't you grateful?" Jackson sneered, feeling quite pleased with himself.

"You dared to take my contract away, so now I'll let grandfather deal with you. Let's see how you'll handle it!"

"Some people are like this. They forget the ones who helped them when they drink the water. I said before that we shouldn't have given Daisy so many resources. Now that we've taken away half of her funding, she deserves it!" said another person.

"White-eyed wolf, you really overestimate yourself, even trying to steal our contract," Xenia, Jackson's mother, sneered.

"Mom, don't get angry. It's not worth it to get upset with someone like him. It's not good for your health," Jackson comforted his mother by patting her back.

The crowd burst into laughter again, and the once quiet hall was filled with joyous atmosphere.

Daisy's fingers trembled with anger. "You guys..."

As a member of the James Family, she received five million dollars in support from the family for her company's development, while Jackson received fifty million dollars! If it weren't for her hard work, how could she have come this far?

Now that her company was showing promise, half of the funds and support were taken away directly!

Why is the gap between people so big?

"And you, useless person. What does a non-family member like you have to do with the James Family's affairs?" Jackson pointed at Grant and scolded him.

"Apologize and kneel down. Do you want to wait for my grandfather to speak?" Xenia snorted with pride on her face.

Even if you know the high-level executives of Visionary Company, what can you do?

As long as we say the word, you will kneel down.

Grant smiled, his smile bright. In this world, being weak is truly a sin.

In the past, he would have definitely apologized and even endured humiliation, but now, he would no longer back down.

Giving in will only encourage the other party to take advantage, and it won't protect the people around you.

"From today on, Daisy, we don't need the support of the James Family!" Grant held Daisy's hand and walked out the door.
